we all need a vegan nutella tamal in our lives

Charro vida is a charming overall experience, so far the best in Tucson offering vegan options. Since the shabby chic mexican decoration, a small terrace with mountains view, the music, friendly personal and a well form menu that includes variety of cocktails you can't go wrong at any choice because they have fresh and selected products, everything is perfect. As they have a separete cooking area for plant base meals they deserve a full star.

Got some takeout jackfruit taquitos, and they were delicious!

Worth a full star rating for the churros alone...

We had two entrees, a dessert, and two drinks and it all came to $50, so we felt like it was a pretty great deal! Plus came with chips and amazing housemade salsa.

I ordered one of the combos which came with an enchilada, a flauta, their mixed grain blend, and chickpea-bean stew, topped with a little cabbage salad. I didn't care for the enchilada. It was listed as containing "vegan queso" which was really just commercial cheese shreds - Daiya or a cousin. This is a theme so if you are not a fan of Daiya/FYH or that "category" of cheezes then just be careful what you order.

The cabbage salad was incredible as was the flauta and the chickpea-white bean mix. The ancient grain and peas blend was yummy, but did have a heavy taste of vegan butter. All in all it was a very satisfying plate of food.

My partner had the tamale plate. It appeared at least one of the tamales had some of the cheese in it too, FYI. Otherwise, both were delicious and interesting.

We had the gluten-free chocolate churros with elderberry sauce for dessert and I could die happy. Absolutely incredible. Also had the horchata cold brew and a plain horchata for my partner. We were super happy and full.

Edit: went back a second time. Got the tempeh asada bowl, jackfruit taquitos, and street fries. Everything in that meal was 10/10 again. This place is so great.

What a wonderful place with many creative plant-based options on the menu. They do serve meat but I'd describe the menu as 65% vegan. There is still more I want to try. It seems like they also have a lot of vegan staff, from chatting with some of the people who worked there. Definitely a great place to support, with super unique (but almost completely Mexican influenced) food.

Pros: Very reasonably priced, Creative vegan food you couldn't get anywhere else, Conveniently located near hikes!

Cons: A lot of commercial cheese substitute, Not a pedestrian friendly area

Wow!

Can't say enough good things about this restaurant! Many vegan options on the menu and that is so satisfying! Plant-based cheeses, sauces, interesting combinations, jack fruit meat substitutions. Also, many, many gluten free options. It is a combination of Mediterranean and Mexican and it works! You won't find it anywhere else. (And that is unfortunate!) I wish you would take your wonderful creation on the road and open one in every city I visit.
And did I mention dessert? Over the top. Thank you for your dedication to providing this. Talk to Ray, the owner. He is passionate about his creation. Let him know how much you appreciate it.

Pros: Many choices on menu. Other restaurants in Tucson, Gluten free options, Owns many other restaurants in Tucson, AZ.

Cons: Can't think of any

New favorite restaurant!

I adore this place. The food was incredible. Not only is food labeled vegan but so many of their dishes were created vegan. They even cook the vegan food in a different area! They have cheese substitutes, vegan carnitas, tempeh, and vegan dessert. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, even our waitress was vegan! I can not say enough good things about this place

Pros: Tons of options, Cute and comfortable atmosphere, Knowledgeable and friendly staff

Super flavorful plant-based /vegan options

The bandera enchiladas plate and hola hemp tamales plate is delicious and bursting with flavor. The cauliflower al pastor is also delicious (if you don’t mind a bit of oil). Iced tea is served in large glass jars and is really good black tea. They offer another tea as well. The staff is friendly, warm and attentive.

Pros: Excellent flavorful food., Many plant-based/vegan options for menu size., Friendly, attentive staff.
