So good we went twice! - Edit
On a four day trip to NYC we managed to go twice and no, we weren't staying nearby!
Read moreFirst for dinner where we had a mixture of the cauliflower and seitan wings - both great -to start followed by burgers and sandwiches, all good.
We returned from breakfast a couple of days later, I had the Breakfast Slam which was also good. I think I would have liked a bit more bacon or an extra sausage included or maybe some toast but it was really nice. Plentiful coffee
Pros: Big menu to choose from, Food was all tasty, Friendly staff
Cons: If just visiting the city, it's in Brooklyn, A little expensive

Really good food - Edit
I’m from out of town but make a point to visit Champ’s whenever I visit the city. The food is delicious especially because I can’t satisfy my vegan diner cravings where I live! My favorite offering so far is the vegan Benedict. A really delicious dupe for eggs and very satisfying to eat :)

Delicious Food in Bad Part of Town - Edit
I would only come here as a local, not a tourist. The area it’s in is not worth spending time. They don’t take reservations so the wait is typically an hour, and if your party is >3 then you can’t even get on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time, meaning you have to spend that time in the area. I walked around the block and watched a fight break out at a bodega. Regardless, the food is delicious. The Caulifire wings are the best I’ve ever had. You can skip the milkshakes- I think they’re too expensive for what you get.

Halleluja moment! - Edit
We left Manhattan to Brooklyn just for this place. The food was one happy buzz. We had to wait for a while to get a table, but worth it... Sooo worth it. We had amazing pankakes and burgers, also a shake. If we come back to NY, we want to have this place as our neighbour.

OMG!! - Edit
The food is so delicious here! Everything is so good and all of the fake meats really taste like the real thing! I recommend the chicken and waffles and a salted caramel milkshake, although you really can't go wrong with any menu item. Also the food is worth every penny and the wait is worth every second.

best food ever - Edit
Since I became vegan 3 years ago I’ve wanted to come here, but never got the chance to. When I finally did, I was not disappointed. The place is a bit smaller than I expected so my boyfriend and I had to wait about a half hour to be seated, but the food was worth the wait. I ordered the philly cheese steak and my boyfriend ordered the kickin’ cowgirl and both were amazing.

Nice Breakfast - Edit
Had the kickin cowgirl or something like that. Chili was really good, got the biscuit and it was a bit off but was still great with the bowl. Staff was incredibly attentive, really great place to start a late day.

We had the Hot Chicken Sandwich, Kale Caesar and a side of tofu scramble. Everything was delicious!
Read moreThe Kale Caesar was made with baby lacinato kale that seems very fresh and possibly local. Dressing was really flavorful. Loved the cheese and sunflower seeds on it. Healthy, fresh option to balance the greasy spoon options.
Hot Chicken Sandwich was very greasy, but very good. The meat was a fat piece, but not chewy or rubbery like many seitan faux-chickens. Had heat, but not too much. The side salad was a tasty, healthy, colorful side.
Tofu scramble was flavorful. I usually like veggies in my scrambles, but I’m a big ol’ hippy like that. This one was made with what seemed to be silken or very soft tofu, which I assume is to get an effect of a less cooked egg scramble. Either way, it was good and a little different than the firm scrambles you normally get.
Overall, good experience, even though place was packed.
Pros: Vegan , Tasty , Friendly
Cons: Expensive, but delicious, so worth it. , Not a lot of space

Awesome vegan junk food - Edit
The mac and cheese is amazing, so is the Cubano sandwich, pancakes and hot chocolate.
Although the hot chocolate wasn’t overly hot.
There was also a hair found in our sandwich but other than that the service was good and the food tasted great.
The shakes are meant to be good too but we didn’t try these this time.
Pros: All vegan , Gluten free options available
Cons: Long wait time

Need more vegan diners like this in the USA 🇺🇸 - Edit
Love the fact their is a all vegan diner in Brooklyn! When it’s my cheat day I get to have all the things I cant have! Had my bday brunch here and loved the biscuits and “sausage” & gravy! My friends that are not vegan loved it as well. I had not had that since I was a little girl! Definitely is must and very trendy!

DEELISH!!! 🌱 - Edit
I’ve been following Champ’s Diner on IG for awhile now and it was such a treat to be able to finally eat there on our road trip. The burgers were fantastic, the fries were extra crispy and the chocolate milkshake was so thick & creamy. The staff were so friendly and the service was fast. Champ’s is a must if you are in the NYC area!

Worth the wait - Edit
Although this place doesn't appear to be walk-in friendly for a quick bite, the hostess will take your cell number and send a text about 10 minutes before they expect to seat you. This is great so you don't have to feel tethered to the restaurant, hovering over those poor people who also trecked across the city to eat at this great vegan American diner. There's another great vegan cafe around the next block called "Well-Dun Donuts" that the hostess recommend if we wanted to grab a coffee (which we thought was really nice of them!). There are also other shops within walking distance, too. The food at Champs is nostalgic and the portions were generous. Even though I have so many restaurants on my list to test out, I'm definitely trecking back to dine here again!

awesome vegan diner - Edit
very authentic diner with friendly service. I had lunch there today.....ok, brunch as my daughter and I both got pancakes. Cinnamon swirl and cookie dough...both more than worth it. We also got a birthday cake sundae. It was so worth the calories. It is hard to find a good vegan breakfast and they have a menu full of it. Their house-made chocolate chip cookie is legit diner style, crunchy on the edge and chewy in the middle. I have to go back to try the reuben.

Champs Diner makes the most epic vegan food in the NY area. I love coming here for the munchies and for breakfast with the family. Champs was definitely the main reason my mother went fully vegan after seeing how delicious vegan breakfast foods can be..she is a breakfast foods lover!

The Vegan American Dream - Edit
It took me forever to decide what to order here, since everything on the menu looks super good. The menu itself is extensive with so many different breakfast options, I've never had a vegan breakfast quite like this. Pancakes, scrambled tofu, sausages, bacon, milkshakes, you name it - Champs has it.
Read moreThey put a little smiley face and a nice comment on my check as well, which made me smile. The atmosphere is incredibly cool and makes you feel like you're in a typical 50s American diner. I will definitely come back here the next time I'm in the city!

Good but Overrated - Edit
Champs Diner is one of the most raved about vegan restaurants in NYC, and it does deserve SOME of the hype. Suuuuuuper extensive menu with something that everyone can enjoy. But Champs is, at best, average. The dishes feel like they lazily slapped together a bunch of store-bought vegan meats and cheeses. Much of the stuff at Champs is stuff that you can make at home - and it will probably taste better homemade. The pancakes are great, and so are the milkshakes. The burgers are underwhelming, and the sandwiches are tasty but nothing special. The servers are the “hipster vegans” and can sometimes be unfriendly (I had one who refused to make eye contact every time he came to our table). Overall, Champs is only worth the money for pancakes/desserts. I’d recommend finding another vegan restaurant (ideally one that does not have a 1.5 hour-long wait).
Read morePros: Lots of options, Fun interior, Cool vegan diner
Cons: Expensive, Long waits, Food not special
