Great vegetarian/vegan options - Edit
The staff understood what vegan meant and were able to accommodate me. I had the vegan keema curry with a pineapple dessert and apple juice. The food was delicious, and the portions sizes were good. The meal was relatively cheap and the atmosphere was nice.

Good for kids - Edit
I’ve eaten here twice. Love this place. The first time the set meal was vegan. The second time it contained eggs, but they were able to do a full vegan set with dessert no problem (we just had crispy seitan instead of the egg dish).

fantastic! - Edit
Great service, cosy and spacious interior, and the food was delicious! We had the lunch set and keema curry. Make sure to check about vegan options as some items have milk/egg.

Satisfying and Delicious Vegan Options using Okara Konyaku - Edit
According to my local friends, this restaurant has been around for a very long time. They described it as being the "backbone" of vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Aomori. To be sure, there are not many vegan-friendly restaurants in Aomori city. This is one of the few that has real vegan lunch options and a comfortable setting.
Read moreIt is a little bit far from the station, so you may want to take a taxi or a rent-a-cycle if you're not driving. They have plenty of parking.
The food is very good. It is a bit too much food for me, but I can't eat very much. I always give my leftovers to my husband and he eats them up.
Whenever I have gone, we have not had dessert. It seems like dessert is always/usually only "vegetarian" (containing dairy or eggs) so I've never ordered it. I always ask the staff which items on the menu are vegan, as it is not quite clear just by looking.
They also sell quite a few vegan-friendly condiments, snacks, etc.
I do wish they would make everything vegan - it would make things so much easier - but seeing as there are so few options anywhere else, I'm just grateful to have found a place to eat.
Pros: Good food, Sells vegan condiments, etc., Nice atmosphere
Cons: Not all menu items are vegan (some are vegetarian), Not open for dinner, Far from the station

Super delicious, all alliums-free! - Edit
I was wondering if we could get alliums-free meal here, and it turned out this place is entirely allium-free (a rare breed in Japan)! The best part is the food here is super delicious. We ate there both days in Aomori. The dessert are not vegan, but main course are fine. It’s quite a distance from the train station, but if you’re driving there’s ample parking available. Lovely staff too!

Chamama Vege Cafe - Edit
We drove 1.5 hours to try the food and it was worth it. The staff was very kind and helpful even though they were not well versed in english. The cafe had a neat set up. There's more room inside than you would think. So happy we made the time to try this place out. We will definitely go again.

Long way but worth it - Edit
Vege Café Chiyamama, Midori 1 chome 12-29, Aomori 030-0845. This was a long walk from Aomori station so worth trying to catch a bus from there (go 13 minutes or 9 stops and get off at the first stop over the big overbridge that takes road 120 over the railway lines). You’’ll be in the vicinity of Midori 1 chome so just walk about until you find block 12 and then building 29. Ask somebody if you find it difficult – and see photos of business card and front of the premises. Hiring a bike would make it easier to get to.
Read moreSpacious restaurant with a calm atmosphere on the first (ground) floor of owner’s house. Well patronised the day we went. Staff understood veganism and recommended lunch set C. Macrobiotic style rice and little bowls of various pickles (cabbage with mustard, beans, daikon, seaweed etc plus), a couple of beautifully deep fried ‘mock fish’ cutlets, a bowl of miso soup and a small bowl of salad. Lovely and cleansing.
Hours 11-4 but last orders at 2.30. Not sure about evenings as business card doesn’t mention them. Closed Sundays and public holidays.
Despite not being in the centre of town, well worth visiting for a delicious meal, lovely atmosphere and very helpful staff.
Pros: Good food and more of it than further south, Nice atmosphere and staff, Reasonably priced
Cons: Just a long way from centre of town
