Excellent food with many veg / vegan options

Really lovely clean restaurant with a wide variety of veg and vegan options. Helpful staff and the food is FULL of flavour. It’s one my favourite places.

Good spread of vegetarian food

Went there to get some comforting vegetarian food and was not disappointed. If anyone who wants to enjoy some vegetarian Indian cuisine, this is the place to go. This is coming from a person who has vegetarian all his life.

Clearly marked veg options

The menu has a lot of options and clearly marked between vegan, veg and non-veg. The dosa are great and they have a lot of dishes not available elsewhere.

Only S Indian restaurant in CM!

Great to finally have Keralan food in Chiang Mai! Lots of choice for vegetarians and vegans. All the usual favourites - curries, dosas, vadas, even string hoppers!

Now offering a Keralan Thali with unlimited refills for 399 baht every Weds - must book in advance.

Further updated their menu with Pan Indian foods, including unusual dishes not seen elsewhere in Chiang Mai. The Kati roll is really good!

Nice vegan options

Kotuu curry is excellent. Samosa good as well

Pros: Chef understands vegan

Cons: Would be better if they marked what is vegan

Disappointing

Curd rice was a little spoilt, old idlis given which were very hard and slightly stale.
Chutneys also tasted fermented and spoilt.
Tomato rice and Lemon Rice not like Indian food at all, very very oily beyond belief.
One star only because the Sambar was good.

South Indian

I was really excited to try Chai N Thai as South Indian is quite rare in Chiang Mai, at least in a vegan version. I tried a masala dosa which I haven't had in ages and I was a bit disappointed that the potatoes stuffed inside were lacking in both flavour and volume. I also tried an idly which was just OK and I tried a curry which was quite good.
In general I was a little disappointed but maybe my expectations were a bit too high as I have had very good food from this region previously.
Also, the green sauce that is served with vegan dishes is apparently not vegan, it is made with dairy. At first they told us it was made from coconut it wasn't until we persisted with our questioning that we were informed that it does actually contain dairy. The tamarind chutney they swapped it for was good though.
The menu does not distinguish between vegetarian and vegan and due to the green sauce incident I am concerned that they aren't fully aware of the difference.
This said I would go back again to try other dishes but I'd probably stick to the northern curries.

Pros: Unique cuisine for Chiang Mai

Cons: Menu doesn't list vegan dishes, Portion sizes could be bigger
