Beautiful view, confirm vegan options - Edit
The restaurant had a sort of 90s family vacation feel, if you know what I mean. It's essentially a mid-range restaurant marketed to tourists. The views were amazing, but the interior felt a bit dated.
Read moreWe were seated on the second floor patio and had a clear view of the ocean. When the server came around we asked if anything else on the menu can be veganized apart from the clearly marked vegan entrees (there were a couple of sides that looked safe). He pointed to several options, stating that they could be easily veganized. One of the items he pointed to was gnocchi. I asked him if he was sure, since gnocchi is usually served with a creamy sauce. He said he was sure.
The gnocci was served in a creamy sauce and topped with parmesan. The breadfruit chips came with aioli, even though we mentioned that we don't eat mayo. He either didn't understand what "vegan" meant, or forgot to jot it down on our order.
I suggest triple checking with your server before ordering items that don't have "vegan" in the title.
We were otherwise impressed with the vegan selection. In addition to several clearly labelled entrees, the dessert menu included a vegan apple crumble!
Not our favourite experience, but I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a conveniently located, ocean-side dinner option.
Pros: Clearly labelled vegan options , Gorgeous view of the ocean, Has its own dedicated parking
Cons: Staff is not knowledgeable about veganism

Castaways has been my "to go" restaursnt for the past years. The view over the ocean is amazing, the interior is very charming and I was happy to see this year that they now have vegan options.

Please no worms for the vegans (and everyone else!) - Edit
I dined on the night of the worms, it was actual on my plate. I’m a vegan and even though they only had 3 options: pizza, salad, tacos for me I was so excited about this place, so many great reviews.
Read moreBut unfortunately, I got an extra topping… wiggling white 2 inch worm coming up from the crust. We all stopped eating immediately, and as we waited for the waitress to come near us we showed the neighboring table, who were also disgusted. All the while, waitress didn’t show up to the table. So my friend got up to get her – waitress seemed as shocked and grossed out as us. She said she would let the manager deal with it. The manager did not come to our table within 10 minutes of the incident, we waited, and then my friend got up to speak to the manager, I was so nauseated and went to the bathroom. My friend returned, the manager still had not come to the table so we all went up to the reception with the goal of getting out of there.
The manager seemed annoyed by the whole experience, during which she took a phone call for another reservation… When the manager spoke to us she said “we only saw one worm” – this was after 3 slices of an 8 slice pizza. I’m praying that it was only one. She said she wanted to talk to the chef, but I am not sure how that changed anything besides her coming back to say “it was on the arugula”, meaning moved all the way down my slice before we noticed... My friend asked ‘if the other diners here knew that there worms on a plate, how would they react?’ and the manager said ‘well we can’t do anything now about it’.
The largest concern coming out of this was “if you don’t wash the arugula, what leads us to believe you’ve thoroughly washed any of the other salads we ordered?” Management: “I took off the pizza from your bill.” As if it was a favor to us. All meals come with some sort of green leaves. I am still scared to order a mojito... Like we were offering to pay for our drinks and get out of there, and the manager was trying to get us to pay for everything. It seemed unfair. It became this petty sort of back and forth. We paid, we left, showed the parties waiting to be seated pics of the worm, and they left behind us.
There was no apology, there was no statement of ‘this has never happened before’ it was just “it was a small worm and I took that off the bill.” This was our experience, I imagine if the worm didn’t happen I wouldn’t have left Barbados with this funny taste in my mouth…
Pros: nice view
Cons: worms in your food, very limited vegan options, horrible customer service

Pleasantly surprised - Edit
I was at first disappointed with No vegan main on the menu, but we ordered the appetizer: vegan taco, salad and the vegan pizza and had them come with the other guest’s main course. The food turned out to be delicious.

Good starter - Edit
The vegan tacos were good but this was really the only option on the menu. Also there was no main course offering. However the service was good and the view was nice.

Vegan Tacos with a View - Edit
Items clearly labeled vegan! They have gourmet vegan tacos made from mini chick pea croquets layered with almonds, corn, tomato, avocado and lime cabbage slaw. Also a salad called 'the vegan salad', a beet salad, Thai curry and a veggie burger. If you are vegetarian, there are also many pasta dishes and pizzas to choose from. Atmosphere and location on the water are amazing.

Great option for a fancy night out. - Edit
My husband and I had dinner here while in Barbados a couple of weeks ago. We mostly ate budget and cooked while we were in the country, but we wanted a nice night out for Valentine's Day. The view was just spectacular. We ordered a vegan pizza, a vegan salad, and split plantains. Everything was wonderful, as were the drinks. Staff was very friendly and I thanked them for offering vegan options--I definitely would recommend.
