Great spot (but beware of the posted hours!)

I really love Cassava House — they have great breakfasts and sandwiches — but I would caution that their hours are very . . . relaxed. They often open later or close earlier than the hours that are posted on Happy Cow or online; I’d call to make sure they’re open before heading over

Pros: Great breakfasts!, Amazing prices

Cons: Opening hours are spotty

Cute and cozy oasis

Tons of fresh juice blend options and delicious vegan sandwich options from Philly Cheese Steak to Lando (tomatoes, mozzarella, homemade pesto) which are my two faves. Seitan, beyond meat also featured. Great toasted bread options, in a neighborhood with few vegan options outside of a garden salad.

Pros: Welcoming and comfy ambiance, Big outdoor space, Can be booked for events

Cons: No vegan croissants

Vegan options in East Harlem

Cassava House is a nice cafe with a lovely outdoor space and friendly staff. There are a number of vegan soup, sandwich, and breakfast options to choose from, which isn't common in this neighbourhood. Almond milk is available for coffee.

Pros: Clearly marked and advertised options, Friendly staff, Affordable options

(healthy) all day brunch & more!

Antoine (owner) is charming and there’s window/table/bar/backyard seating available with beautiful murals. The menu’s customizable and broken down by its seasonal/organic/local ingredients. If you’re in the area, then you should stop by!

*CH’s slightly out of my way and I normally order in a hurry, but I find it mad wholesome that Antoine both recognizes and chats with the customers that seemingly frequent. My only gripe is that the *sweet* food items (e.g., breakfast opts and baked goods) don’t have vegan substitutes, but the beverages/oatmeal will do. BTW, the plant milk used is Almond.

9 June: I returned just when they hosted a vegan LA street tacos pop-up called Cena Vegan. I paired their tacos with CH’s own No Regrets (Apple, Carrot, Cucumber, Watermelon) juice for brunch, which was super refreshing. I’d rate both places 5-stars!

15 June: I’m not one for Beyond Meat (I’m looking at you, Burgerfi/Bareburger) but CH works miracles with the vegan House Burger! The cheddar somehow melts, the ketchup’s organic, the sliced tomato/onion tastes fresh, there’s wilted arugula instead of iceberg lettuce, and the bun‘s ciabatta for the El Barrio clout. It came with a side of ruffled potato chips all for about $11 and I was happily stuffed! You can probably request for it to be on a bed of arugula if you’re looking for a GF/leaner alt, and/or with avocado/“bacon”, but I found it perfect as is.

Pros: student discount (with ID), vegan substitutions, friendly service & free wifi

Cons: bathroom is customer-only (but target is @ 117th)
