One of my favorite vegan meals ever - Edit
My party of 4 had dinner at Caruso's -- 2 of us are vegan and 2 are omnivores. The restaurant offers vegan and omni prix fixe menus so we were able to all have 4-course tasting menus that satisfied our needs. Unsurprisingly, the views (you're right on the beach) and service at Caruso's are stellar. We were treated extremely well, every detail of each course was thoroughly explained to us, and we were provided amuse-bouche to start the meal (which had 3 different types of small bites) as well as during dessert.
Read moreFor my tasting menu, I had the strawberry gazpacho, pistachio and lemon risotto, roasted cauliflower, and the sorbet. My partner chose the stone fruit salad, pistachio and lemon risotto, funghi e piselli, and the sorbet. Our party also opted to receive the bread service and the vegans were provided with an incredible olive oil for the bread while the omnis received two different butters.
Every bit of the meal was flavorful, cooked and executed perfectly, and presented beautifully. For me, the star of the night was the pistachio and lemon risotto. It was actually an option on the omni tasting menu as well, and all four members of our party chose it for our primi course. We were told by the waitstaff that the vegan version was modified somewhat from the regular version; I believe they said they added tofu cream but am not 100% sure. Anyway, the risotto was the best I've ever had. The lemon flavor was so strong and concentrated but was extremely balanced at the same time. I absolutely loved my roasted cauliflower dish as well. The other courses were excellent and had no faults but I was just blown away by the risotto and cauliflower.
My group had a fantastic night -- though I love going to vegan-only restaurants, I'm so appreciative of restaurants like Caruso's that are appealing and satisfying to vegans and non-vegans alike. The vegan options were so fantastic that it didn't feel like I was sacrificing a good meal by being there, which is often the case for vegan meals at omni restaurants. My only suggestion would probably be to have one other choice for the dessert, preferably something a bit more savory than sorbet. Baking with vegan ingredients is so common now that a vegan cake or custard shouldn't be too difficult. Other than that, I can safely say that it was one of the best vegan meals I've ever had. My vegan partner and I already are talking about when we can return for another meal!
Pros: Fantastic flavors, Interesting course choices, Gorgeous views
Cons: Expensive, Smaller portions, No dessert choice

I would totally give this a 5+ if the app would let me. - Edit
Caruso’s is hands down the best vegan food in Santa Barbara and some of the best vegan food I’ve hand (I’ve been vegan 15 years, and I’ve been to all of the best restaurants). It’s a vegan prix fixe, so get ready to eat.
Read moreIt’s at a gorgeous hotel on the beach in Montecito. The restaurant itself opens to the water, and the whole thing is open. It’s perfect for a California coastal restaurant. The servers were incredible and well informed, and well-timed.
The food was Santa Barbara Farmer’s market sourced and so fresh. It was bursting with flavor and expertly blended ingredients. So much depth of flavor.
My boyfriend and I ordered different things on the menu so that we could try a lot.
They introduced the restaurant to us with a piece of Chidori kale and pickled tangerine, which was terrific.
Then brought fresh heirloom bread with Santa Barbara olive oil and balsamic. Honestly, I overate.
For the Antipasta, I had the Farmer’s Market Salad with Blackberry dressing, and it was exactly what you would expect. I go to the market every Saturday, so it was very similar to the salads we make.
My Bf got Panelle e Fagioli, and it was phenomenal. He said it was his favorite thing of the entire night.
For the Primi, I had the Risotto, and he had the Sedanini. Both were incredible. Mine had notes of champagne and delicious mushrooms; his was a bolognese.
For the Secondi, we both had the beluga lentils. This was so good, but we were so stuffed ( remember I ate too much bread), we took a lot of it home. And, we wanted to save room for dessert.
Dessert: Cheesecake, Quince Variation, Almond Streusel, was so delicious. It had a beautiful combination of sweet and tiny salt.
I’m sure anything you order would be delicious. I don’t think you can go wrong.
I highly recommend Caruso’s, especially for a special occasion.
Pros: Hands down the best vegan food in Santa Barbara , Great flavor profile and combining , So much local, organic food from the SB Farmer’s
Cons: Very pricey - like super
