Although the cosmetic layout of the food isn't anything to write home about, the portions are a great size for the price. Loads of vegan and veg options. Super friendly service. Great location. And the overall taste of the food was good 👍

Cheap lunch of beans, rice and veggies! - Edit
This is a great lunch option for those on a budget. The food didn’t blow us away, but it was $4 per person for a lot of food. We got a puréed veggie soup as well as a garbanzo burger, lentils, rice, and some veggies. Was very filling, and the server was very nice! It seems for lunch they have the meat option and vegan option.

Carmita is the sweetest!! Such a kind soul serving up an extensive menu of all vegetarian/vegan food. She stayed open a little late to help me out and the food was exactly what I needed. Most of her items can be veganized, and I want to make it clear that this place is all vegetarian (HappyCow doesn’t reflect that yet). Also, this would be a 5 star review that I will update if I can.

Carmita's is the best place you're going to find for vegan food in Montanita. Every day she does a set vegan lunch for 3.50 and you have plenty of options in the menu if you want to choose something else. The set lunch is usually a soup, juice, and plate with rice, salad, beans or lentils, and something like seitan steak. There are vegan pancakes if you're craving something sweet. The food was basic but filling and tasty.

My husband and I ate lunch here everyday during our stay in Montanita. Super friendly and welcoming owner who has an extensive vegan/veg meal. Her daily vegan set meal consisted on a veggie soup (so delicious!) and some sort of rice/beans/veggie patty plate with salad and plantain chips. So good! All for $3.50! Highly recommend!

We chose the vegan almuerzo option for 3,50 USD and it was fantastic (soup, main, drink). Very friendly owner!!! Whole food plant based ingredients. If we would be longer in town - a place to return to. (Max 4 stars as app doesn't allow 5 for non-pure veg restaurants)

Big filling portions. Some of the vegan options are a bit more expensive, my wife's meal was a mushroom dish that was around 6 (I'm writing this a few days later and not sure exact price.) But it was really good.

Great Vegan Almuerzos - Edit
Found this place via Happy Cow and have eaten lunch (almuerzo) here daily since I arrived. Every day, Carmita offers a different set lunch menu with both a vegetarian and vegan option. Lunch includes soup, main plate, and a juice for $3.50. Best price in town for a vegan lunch! I have been very satisfied with all of my meals and am also hoping to try some options from the menu one day (she has other food items including vegetarian/vegan burgers and waffles available).

If it was possible to give 5 stars for customer service and food quality I definitely would but since the restaurant is not fully veg, Happy Cow only allows 4 stars.

Delicious and affordable vegan food! I was so happy to find a vegan Ceviche, and she has several options too! She also has Burgers, salads, sweet pancakes and mains... also Carmita is super sweet, the best service I have gotten in a long time! I would give it five stars if I could.

The owner went vegan one year ago and now she offers many vegan dishes not only 2.
And she is thinking to make it fully vegetarian, she has now only few meat dishes and only at the lunch time.
I think if more people support her she will do the shift sooner

Just What A Vegetarian Needs - Edit
Fantastic little place. Newly converted to sell predominantly vegetarian and vegan dishes as the owner is now vegetarian too. In places as small as this it can be difficult to find something vegetarian/vegan to eat. Here your needs will be satisfied. Tasty and cheap. At the time of writing we paid $3.50 for menu of the day. Includes a drink, soup and main meal.
Read moreLovely lady who owns the place is great to talk to. Very positive and happy. Only 4 stars as it sells the odd bit of fish for pescatarians too. Definitely worth the money. If I visit Montanita again I'll definitely be stopping by!
