Nice breakfast and coffee

I hadn’t been here since I was a student a couple years ago but came back recently and was surprised to see it wasn’t completely vegan anymore! I can understand they must have had to do this to survive as a business so just had to make sure I remembered to ask for oat milk. Still - My breakfast was lovely and my server was friendly! I ordered a ‘small’ breakfast but the size was honestly spot on - really filling

Pros: Super tasty scrambled tofu, Good quality coffee, Friendly and fast service

Cons: Not many sweet vegan treats anymore , Not a completely vegan place anymore

Nice independent cafe

Spacious cafe. Few vegan options include sausage sandwich, pizza, avocado on toast. Usually some cake option too.

Edit - best vegan breakfast in town!

Revisited after lockdowns to initial disappointment that meat was back on the menu and options limited…
Here twice again since to find a much more varied menu. Vegan & veggie options priced the same as meat options too! Enjoyed a filling breakfast sandwich, mushrooms delicous, avocado fresh, crispy sausages in a grilled bap and even little saches of vegan mayo.

Pros: Fresh food, great quality, Don’t discriminate with prices

Cons: Doesn’t open before the office

I’ve lost that loving feeling

It's a been a long journey for Camber. Initially decent but not busy enough.
It turned to.meat. boo
It's now back veggie and a new manager seems to have cracked it.
I had a sushi bowl, which was sushi with broccoli and edamame beans, delish. Lots of healthy vibes and still a fantastic space.

Pros: lots of vegan, location

Not good anymore

I loved this place back when it was all vegan and veggie, but options for vegans although there, have been seriously reduced (especially sweet and drink options). My non-vegan partner enjoyed his options but mine were just OK, coffee tasted like the machine hadn't been cleaned in a while. Worst part was the person at the counter, although the other people serving were friendly, I am also certain the person taking the orders at the counter was not quite "there" (eyes very red, very slow service, confused-looking..) make of that what you will.

Reduced to 1 star after being intimidated for leaving a negative review. Maybe listen to what people are saying and improve instead of arguing that the reviews are false. The food didn't taste good and neither did the coffee, that is the truth.

Pros: City centre location

Cons: Used to be vegan, then veggie, no sells meat, Food not fresh, Unfriendly staff

Hi, I work in camber coffee and was just wondering why you felt the need to post this exact review as you did on Google 5 months ago? The member of staff in question no longer works here so this review can't possibly be from a recent visit.

We are no longer vegetarian as it was not financially sustainable. We do however have many vegan options, such as avo on toast and baba ganoush. The vegan cakes tend to sell out very quickly which is why you may not have had much selection. We also have many alternative milks for drinks such as oat, coconut, almond and soya.

I can also assure you the machine is cleaned daily as I'm the one who does it. The water for the machine is double filtered, which is more than the industry standard.

I lost access to my account due to forgetting my password/ using an old email address, and wanted to share my experience on this platform as my comments were more of interest to vegans. That is the entire point of such a platform. Fair enough but my experience was very bad and I am entitled to share my opinion!

B careful, vegans!

Great place very central and relaxed atmosphere. We used to come here a lot a few years ago when it was fully vegan. Now only veggie. Cakes etc well labelled but I made the mistake of ordering a chai latte and in hindsight it must by default be cows milk. As I ordered another one a week later and this time had the vegan conversation with them. (They have 4 types of vegan milk). Ok so this was also my fault for not specifying the first time. But when you are ordering vegan food and a black coffee perhaps it would not hurt for them to ask which milk? Especially as the establishment used to be 100% vegan? It makes me think they are not really into veganism but just cater this way for convenience.

Update: not a good menu any more

Hi ABI, can I ask when you went in? I'm not trying to be cheeky but I was in yesterday and they told me they had started selling meat.
I'm hoping you were in today and they have gone vegan.just wanted to ask as I updated and said it was no longer veggie.

Hello AbiM and craigmc . Thanks very much for your feedback. We are a vegetarian vegan cafe where we offer big selection of vegan food and cakes. Almost 90 per cent of our food is vegan and 10 per cent vegetarian. As you mentioned we offer milk alternatives as well as dairy milk. I am sorry you were not asked if you wanted your chai latte with an alternative milk and I will make sure all of our staff will ask from now on. As Camber coffee we have always been vegetarian vegan and that will not change. At some point this shop was run by North shore which is another business. Thanks very much for your time to write this review.

Just ok.

Came in to try the vegan breakfast & the chef had gone home & they had run out of their food. Did get a slice of Carrot cake suggested by one of the members of staff.
Nice cake & coffee. Might have to try again for main meal stuff.

Pros: Nice vegan cake. , Alright prices.

Cons: No mains as the chef went home early. , Ran out of food by 2pm!

Hit and miss!

Came on Friday morning and the avo toast was SO GOOD. Back on Sunday two days later and our scrambled tofu and avo was cold, toast wasn't toasted and avo was hard. Disappointing😒the girl who served me both days was lovely but the other staff on the Sunday weren't great. Sad as I was so impressed two days before!

Pros: Vegan options , When it's nice it's really nice

Cons: Not the best staff on the Weekend , Cold and bland food on the weekend

Quaint lunch spot with excellent views

Camber Coffee is a great lunch spot if you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, it's a nice, calm atmosphere, where you can grab a pew by the window and check out the views. below.

I loved the food here, I got the rainbow Buddha bowl, which was so delicious and fresh tasting; one of those meals where you just feel better after eating it! The teriyaki rice that accompanied the meal was very flavoursome, and the sriracha mayo added a nice level of spice. For afters I got the lotus tart which was an actual dream, so rich and creamy, it is such a treat to get such nice vegan cake!

Pros: Diverse range of dishes, Good selection of drinks, There is a lift available to access cafe

Cons: Could be more family friendly, Had to ask for directions, Weren't given napkins

Return to form

Back to being all veggie and nearly all vegan. Lovely light airy cafe with tasty food and friendly staff. I had the vegan breakfast then struggled to choose a cake as there were so many vegan options. Went for the Biscoff and white chocolate pie and now can’t stop thinking about it. Amazing.

Cute coffee place

Cute place and vibe. Unfortunately when I arrived (one o'clock) they had ran out of many sandwiches, cakes and their spring rolls. However, the vegan cream cheese bagel I had was delicious and came with crisps and a dressed salad. I also had a piña colada smoothie, which unfortunately tasted mainly of banana.

There's a kind of hush

Location wise, Camber Coffee is perfectly located in the centre of Newcastle and inside is both modern and spacious with a decent menu. I visited recently during my lunch hour and ordered the Buddha bowl (£6.50) from the friendly staff. The dish for me was a little bland, although I did like the pineapple and vegan chicken bites. The teriyaki and Sriracha sauce were just too subtle. My biggest con was the atmosphere, as I was surrounded by keyboard warriors studying and felt like I was in a library. It just made it difficult to relax. Personal opinion though, you make your own mind up.

Pros: Location, Spacious , Friendly staff

Cons: Vibe, Dish I got was bland

Loved it!

We'd visited Newcastle for the day and were looking for a lunch spot. Initially we ignored this as an option (who knows why) but after we didn't like the look of some we checked out and others were closed, we walked past this place and thought it wouldn't hurt to have a look. We're so glad we did, it was delicious, the place is bright, airy and beautiful and there are soooo many amazing sounding options, for food but also for hot and iced drinks. We both ordered the special, a sushi bowl and absolutely loved it. We'd definitely come regularly if we lived in Newcastle!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Fresh and colourful, Student discounts

Cons: can't see the pretty cafe from outside , no discount for bringing own cup

A wellcome return to vegetarian and vegan

We stopped going here when it became under new management omni particularly as they neglected to highlight this and sandwiches that had previously been vegan now were vegetarian and in one case had the same name been contained meat. After a name change it has now reverted to Camber Cafe (with new staff) and gone back to being only vegetarian and vegan. Do a great range of coffees with multiple non dairy milks to choose from. Their sandwiches and cakes are 50/50 vegetarian and vegan and they do seem to be always adding to the vegan options. Soup of the day has always been vegan and very nice. Worth a return visit in it's latest incarnation!

Backward Step

Sad to see now gone omni so we left. Good vegan food can be enjoyed by anyone. While I understand business challenges a vegan diet is better for animals, our health and not least the planet. I live in hope of a change back one day.🙏 October 2018 Thank you for the change back to veggie. Veganism is our present and the future for the majority of people, let it be sooner. Good luck and I will return.

Living on the Ceiling

After just one visit this became my place of choice for a coffee in Newcastle. They are vegetarian and take veganism very seriously indeed. A window seat here is quite priceless in my opinion. You have a great view of a great city street sitting above a large fitness and sports equipment shop below. The coffee is excellent, the interior pleasant, staff are cool and the vegan cakes quite special. I'd rather not elaborate any further on the sumptuous peanut butter brownies. Unsure if still available. The selection of vegan sandwiches certainly stimulates the gustatory glands. Once again under new ownership the outlook is great. After a short blip of introducing meat to the menu, we are re-entering a new phase of enlightenment. Things fall into place.

Pros: great location, cool interior, great vegan cakes

Best Vegan Cafe in Town

WENT IN TODAY AND - They've been bought back from North Shore by Camber by these two lads and its going back to its glory days of vegan/veggie only cafe. SO HAPPY.
BACK TO VEGAN HOT CHOCOLATE WITH VEGAN MARSH AND VEGAN CREAM! YAAAY!

Love this place.

Can't seem to give 5 stars . as HappyCow only gives 5 stars for fully vegan places which I think their system hasn't updated that they are now.

Too expensive

Got a drink and a very small sandwich. Really nice vibe but wouldn’t go again because it’s not worth the price. I don’t remember the exact prices but I know it was way too expensive for what you get.

Cons: Too expensive

Amazing Vegan and Vegetarian Treats!

First time doing a review but this placed really deserved it! Me and 5 friends went there and the cakes and scones were delicious. The staff realized it was my birthday and offered me a free cake and a voucher for 10% off next time which was so so nice of them! I didn't try any of the sandwich etc but they looked and sounded delicious too. Would definitely recommend.

Pros: Lovely Staff, Chilled Atmosphere
