Serves meat, vegan options available. Restaurant (Calabacitas Tiernas), inside the La Jicara cultural space alongside a bookshop and store. Has separate vegan and vegetarian sections (some of the vegetarian dishes can be vegan by omitting the quesillo/crema from the taquitos). The clearly labeled all-vegan items include hummus (garbanzos or lentils), chile relleno of seitan, and a veggie burger. Usually has a vegetarian menu del dia which might be veganizable. Atmosphere is casual. Also has a large selection of mezcales, and Mexican beers (including Oaxacan artisanal beers). Open Mon-Sat 1:00pm-10:00pm. Closed Sun.

Yum! - Edit
Lovely little patio with gentle music playing and friendly staff. I had the black bean soup (dairy or nut cheese) and the chili relleño with mushrooms and peanuts. Soup was amazing. Chili was pretty good.

Daily vegan lunch specials & a bookstore? Oh my - Edit
This place was cuter and had more vegan options than I expected. For under $7 I had the vegan lunch special. This even included soup, salad, the entree, dessert and the agua fresca of the day. It’s also attached to a cute little health food store and a bookstore. It’s a great outing on many levels.

Good Vegan Menu - Edit
Also on google maps as La Jiraca (same place). Good small vegan menu, we tried quite a few things here and really enjoyed most of it. Portions can be kinda small for the price. There's a nice organic shop attached to it too. Worth a visit.

Same Place As La Jicara? - Edit
Great ambiance here, and delicious vegan options, especially dessert! Some mosquitoes made things a little less enjoyable, but can't complain about good food in a cute venue.

Good Vegan Menu Options - Edit
A bit out of the real centre of the city, but not too far. Some really good options on the vegan menu as well as beverages. The restaurant was full when I arrived and they sat me at a very uncomfortable table, out of the way, and I wish that they had relocated me to a regular table when some had cleared. Very good food, especially typical Mexican meals.

Lots of choices - Edit
Really nice vegetarian and vegan options, and great selection of local and craft beers. Try the oatmeal stout! The vegan ceviche was a tad slimy which is what has knocked this review down a star. Everything else we had was great.

Excellent Food - Edit
Expensive for Oaxaca City but busy and excellent food. In a quiet area of the city but worth walking away from the main tourist areas to find. Whole food shop and book shop with it.

This has a vegan, vegetarians and paleo menu. This is good for those who dine with non vegan amigos. I had the vegan burger with salad. It was nice. The courtyard is very relaxing.

Definitely worth a visit while in Oaxaca! - Edit
I ended up going here multiple times because of their opening hours. My first reason to go there were their tacos/enchiladas with jamaica/hibiscus flower. The dish comes with two of those and two with plátano and I really enjoyed the first (order from vegetarian menu and let them know you are vegan). The ones with plátano weren't as great which surprised be cause usually I love the fried plátanos. The falafel are also pretty good and the chocolate mouse is a small portion but even I was ok at the end of it, it is intense! And not very sweet. I somehow liked it. The banana bread and the ceviche were a little disappointing, rather bland.
Read moreThe flavoured waters are quite nice although very strong. I preferred to dilute them a bit. One person I was there with managed to get a glass of water for free. When I tried that another time I didn't succeed, obviously you need exactly the right words or be Mexican.
Most of the time the staff is very nice and attentive. And I had some very nice life music at times.
Pros: Vegan section on the menu, Some vegetarian meals can be made vegan, Special with their jamaica enchiladas/tacos
Cons: Some meals are a bit bland

Absolutely outstanding flavours and lots of vegan choices - Edit
We booked a table here one evening for Day of the Dead. The menu is divided into meat, vegetarian and vegan options, which is handy. The menu is also in English. There was about 6 vegan main course options, all really varied and interesting. I have to say the flavour combinations were incredible. We had a curry dish which came with a rice which had some kind of powdered pineapple on top. We were all sharing food and exclaiming ''oh wow taste this! Taste this!" Falafel, curry, stuffed peppers. I didn't take any photos as the lighting wasn't great, but I would highly recommend this place. Service was good and prices were reasonable too. Around 80 to 100 pesos for a main course.

Good for oaxaca - Edit
This place was popular for dinner. Thr menu, was good but we wish there were more options for vegetarians or vegans that were close to traditional oaxacan food rather than pasta and pizza. They had 2 items that were veg/an and oaxacan... Great service. Lots of mosquitos at nigt so bring bug spray. Be aware they are closed on Sundays.

Good value, great staff - Edit
The food we had here was delicious, and the service was great also. I do wish there had been slightly more filling portions, but for the price you pay you are getting good value - the venue is nice too, with a great book shop of feminist and political literature and a small handicraft store stocking locally made goods attached

Yummy vegan options! - Edit
Its nice to find places that have vegan food but also other options for non vegans you might be traveling with. Loved the salads and the vegan poblano pepper entree was amazing and so flavorful! They also have a small store attached that sells milk alternatives, tofu and even a homemade vegan cheese!

Amazing find in Oaxaca - Edit
Tried to find somewhere open on December 26 in Oaxaca and scored with this little gem! I made sure it was open before venturing out which it was. Loved the sign outside which had a vegan prix fixe lunch for $100. Bargain! The menu had lots of vegan options but decided to go for set menu. I was served with a carafe of yummy homemade coconut milk and a basket of sesame bread, tacos and salsa roja. Starter was a yummy vegetable soup in coconut milk, followed by delicious lettuce, shredded beets and sprout salad in vinaigrette dressing. Main dish was brown rice with broccoli, spinach and mushrooms sautéed in soy sauce and for dessert stewed apricots. It was freshly made, good value and delicious! Snapped up a vegan banana bread for the road tomorrow. Lovely atmosphere too! Would definitely visit again!

Excellent vegan menú del dīa - Edit
Visited in November 2018. Had a delicious 3-course vegan menú of soup, salad, stuffed pepper with rice and for 100pesos. Great Kombucha too, and a beautiful space, within a community centre.

Mixed Feelings - Edit
Had the Vegan burger and stuffed pepper after reading previous reviews. Was nice to see a vegan menu although it is limited to maybe six items. The fact this restaurant has menus for Vegan and Paleo is a little depressing. The food is alright. This city has a lot of really bad attempts at vegan food. Anywhere else I would say this place isn't worth going. So far I don't see anything better though.
