No longer Vegetarian - Edit
There aren’t two restaurants at this location there is only one. The listing for Cai Mam Bistro is the same restaurant as Cai Mam Luong Van Can.
Read moreSadly it is not vegan. In fact it is primarily serves meat with just 8 vegan options on the menu, two of which are spring-rolls.
At one point apparently they served vegan food and a vegan buffet on the upper floors but that is no longer true as confirmed by our waiter.
Cons: Very slow service , Not vegetarian restaurant

First disappointing meal in Vietnam - Edit
The service was poor: she left before I could order a drink, we did not receive any glasses with our bottled water and our plates were not cleared. The waitress seemed occupied with her social media and KFC takeout instead.

Authentic, quality Vietnamese food - Edit
The buffet looked super tempting, but with two kids in tow, we knew we couldn't order most of them, so we settled for these. 😋

Does the vegan place exist? - Edit
We combed the street looking for the amazing vegan place others have described and on multiple days could only find an omni place which had some vegan options. Eventually we just went there anyway, the vegan options were good but not all that extensive.

This place is famous for both foreigners and locals, the food is tasty and they all look appealing. I recommend that you should go here at noon for lunch and pre-book 1 hour earlier via their hotline.

The food is just ok for the price. The rice crispy wasn’t crispy at all. Slow service. The plates are too small and it took ages to get my food.

Cool & Cozy - Edit
The cozy ambiance sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. The menu offers creative vegetarian and vegan dishes, each bursting with flavor. The staff is friendly but you should order clearly for them to understand. Highly recommend for both vegetarians and plant-based food explorers!

Not worth it - Edit
Horrible, save your money. I'm actually shocked at the experience we had here tonight and with all the positive reviews.
Read moreWe showed up thinking we could have the buffet style the reviews mention. Only some people mentioned you had to prebook, others seemed to have just showed up so we figured we would do the same.
We pointed to the buffet section and asked the server if we could order, she said we had to prebook. We looked visually disappointed and asked agian and she said not possible. We were pointing at the 150k buffet but we figured her response applied to all buffet. At no point did she say, you can get the 200k or 300k buffet. So we debated what to do and hesistently flipped to the a la carte page and ordered two dishes and a drink as we were hungry and didnt want to go elsewhere. The price was high for all the dishes but we figured the flavor and quality would make up for that.
In our 3 weeks of travel in vietnam, this was BY FAR the most disappointing and one of the pricer meals we had. I ordered the lotus and tofu green curry for 159k and my husband ordered the lemongrass mushrooms for 149k and a juice which was 70k. My curry was the saddest looking curry, it was so tiny i could've finished it in 4 bites, it came with TWO pieces of tofu. It also came out very fast, before anything else and came out cold which made me realize it had been sitting around for a while. My husbands mushroom dish was just as sad looking but at least tasted okay compared to my very flavor lacking cold curry.
Our bill came out to over 400k and we left hungry. It wasn't until we were leaving the restaurant did I overhear another couple confirming with the server that they could order the 200k buffet that I realized there had been a major miscommunication with us and the server.
Perhaps those who were able to have the buffet would rate this place better but if you are ordering off the a la carte menu, the price does not justify the quality, taste or portion size.
There are hundreds of better options in Hanoi. Save your money and go elsewhere, the food is mediocre at best. The ambiance is also far from a fine dining place.
Cons: Price and qantity, Lack of clarity from server , Quality and flavor

Good value Vietnamese buffet - Edit
The restaurant is welcoming and the staff were very attentive. I went for the buffet option and ordered 5 dishes from the extensive a la carte menu. I was brought tasting portions of each dishes - just the right amount of food. After the first round, I could have ordered as many dishes, as many times as I wanted. However, for me it was all to sweet and lacked the freshness associated with Vietnamese food.
Read moreAs mentioned before, they insisted on serving a "chef's choice " of an extra 2 dishes that - for me and others was a very sweet soup with sweet bread. I told them not to bring these dishes, but they came anyway. I didn't eat them. They also brought a dessert which was not ordered and not eaten - such an unnecessary waste.

Pros: Buffet good value relative to a la carte option, Attentive staff, wide-range of menu options
Cons: All the dishes I tried were excessively sweet, Dishes lacked depth of flavour, The extra "chef's choice" an unnecessary waste

Our Best Meal In Hanoi - So Many Choices And Flavours! - Edit
This was a great place to eat and ridiculously good value. We pre-booked in advance so we got the 149k buffet deal for the two of us and, while we were fully prepared to pay for our children's eating as well, they only charged the two adults so for about 300k, we were able to order almost twenty different dishes.
Read moreWhat sets this apart from other buffets is that, the food is cooked to order, so everything is fresh and hot from the kitchen. I'm not a huge fan of buffets for those reasons so being able to order throughout the meal was a real selling point.
The portion sizes were perfect in that they were large enough to give you a taste of each dish but not overly large as that one dish became a chore that you got bogged down in.
Obviously with so many items on the menu, there are some much more worthwhile ordering than others. The braised bananas and vegetables in curry was the absolute highlight for me and a flavour I had never experienced before. You have to order it! The green mango salad was another of our favourites and had a lot of acidity to it. There were some dishes that didn't do much for us but with so much choice, this was a minor issue.
The staff were really attentive and would frequently check if we wanted to order something else. Food came out in a timely manner and the place itself, was nice enough to sit down and eat in.
Obviously the set we ordered from did not include desserts or the hot pot but, honestly, considering how many options there were and how well-fed we felt at the end, we can't imagine it could be better value than the deal we got. The A La Carte prices were really expensive, too...but I imagine you might get a larger portion size for those prices? Not sure. But for what we got, this place is really recommended.
Pros: Great Value Buffet Menu With So Many Options., Unique And Delicious Flavours., Service Is Attentive And Prompt.
Cons: The A La Carte Menu Looks Expensive.

Worst food for highest price in our whole Vietnam trip - Edit
I am honestly shocked that all the other reviews are so positive. This restaurant is not worth it. It comes across on happy cow as fine dining, but it is more like a low quality all you can eat. High prices for many low-medium quality dishes.
Read moreI'll mention a couple of things:
- if you're a walk in, you pay 200.000 per person for the all you can eat, excluding the service tax, excluding drinks. Which is incredibly expensive for Hanoi (where 110k is considered an expensive quality vegan buffet). To make you interested in this option, all the other dishes are priced at 130k , which is also insane compared to even fine dining places in Hanoi. Even the reduced price when reserving an hour in advance was still very expensive.
- The all you can eat comes with 2 dishes 'improvised by the chef', in our case this was a thick cashew-pumpkin slurry and some bread. If I see the pictures, it's been the same two dishes for years. We soon noticed that the theme of all dishes on the menu was to fill you up with empty or fried calories. To the point that several dishes seemed to have a lot of rice flour in them (to the point that it hindered the flavor) and almost no protein.
- I already mentioned the service charge, but they also have a holiday charge and a weekend charge in the fine print! This whole place seemed like a weird money trap.
- The dishes were generally mediocre or bad. Go anywhere else in Vietnam and Hanoi and the food will be so good. The few good dishes on this menu are not worth going to this restaurant.
- Even though it is listed as fully vegetarian, the restaurant is a shared ownership, shared staff and maybe shared kitchen (we weren't able to confirm this but suspect it) with the non-vegetarian place next to it. Which isn't necessarily bad but they were weird about it when we asked.
I've never written a review like this, I'm normally easily pleased and happy to eat anything. It just really rubs me the wrong way that this place is so misrepresented on Happy cow..

Great food and vibe - Edit
I like everything here from the food to the vibe. There are a variety of food that you can have for 149k, which is a great bargain. The unique architecture of the restaurant, which is actually an ancient Hanoian house in the old quarter, makes the dining experience more worthwhile. I've had a new favourite vegan place in the town.
