Pros
The new decor is Greek themed and a very comfortable environment to spend time in. It is pleasing to the eye and certainly captivating.
Vegan Shawarma meat was of good quality.
Plate presentation was nice.
Vegan coleslaw was great!
Great smoothie.
Weaknesses
The theme of the cafe does not match the food on the plate, much of the menu appears to be a traditional British cafe rather than a Greek one.
I heard the server on multiple occasions openly explain that they were “really busy” to customers in an attempt to turn them away, as they couldn’t handle the lunchtime rush.
The chef was elsewhere, continued to run in and out of the cafe throughout the time I was there.
They ran out of flatbread, promised to get some more and when they returned offered us the choice of one panini and one flatbread.
Service was slow and it was obvious the staff were struggling to cope which created a tense atmosphere.
Vegan options are limited now, the menu is more non-vegan than it is vegan.
The shawarma was dry and could have used some more sauce.
Overall I would not recommend this cafe to vegans or vegetarians and think it is a real shame to lose this cafe along with Hanks which were mainstays in the Colchester vegan scene.

Visited for the first time since moving away as this was my absolute go-to in Colchester.
Not only was the place deserted (clearly the locals know something we didn't) but the staff were rude, coffee was burnt and all tables were incredibly wobbly.
Couldn't comment on the food quality but options were severely limited.

Caffe Sala is wonderful! Not only are their cakes (especially the victoria sponge and cherry and marzipan slice) freshly baked and delicious (my visiting omni family loved them!) but their loose leaf tea makes the best brew. The paninis are flavourful, and while I have not tried a sandwich, bagel, or jacket potato, they always look incredible and are all made to order.

This is one of my favourite cafes to go to, the people inside are friendly and helpful. Didn’t have to ask about any allergens as all listed. Large savoury food menu- I haven’t yet tried this but I can highly recommend the peanut butter brownie, hot choc with vegan cream and marshmallows, the chocolate fudge cake and the simnel cake!

The venue is conveniently placed in the town. The staff are friendly and the food is good. There's a good selection of hot and cold drinks. The cakes are delicious and the choice is difficult to make as they all look good. There are plenty of options for lunch too. Being able to choose anything off a menu always feels good.
