If you're into great food options in a spot with a groovy vibe, this is your place! The crunchy chickpeas on the portobello panini were a great touch.

Gluten free vegan - Edit
Everyone was so friendly but as a gluten free vegan there were very few options. They had a vegan soup of the day that seemed good and one salad that was fully vegan (the John stamos). The salad seemed like it was going to be yummy and it kind of was but nothing in it was seasoned. The squash seemed like it was steamed and dropped straight into the bowl. As well as the salad dressing which was a lemon walnut vinaigrette. It tasted like there was no lemon and all walnut and I could barely taste it. If you’re looking for options in grand junction just go to the chipotle.

Good veg options - check out their bathroom for positivity - Edit
We ate here for breakfast and were pleased with their wide selection for vegans/vegetarians. The service was very friendly. The best part was their restroom where their walls are all blackboard - so you can write positive messages in chalk and read positive messages written by others. The food was very good and abundant. Would definitely recommend this place.

Not too bad! - Edit
I have eaten here a few times and have not had good luck with any of the sandwiches so I am not sure if that was during a non vegan bread phase but I am pretty sensitive with my digestion. The salads are great though. Wish there were a few more options that are vegan but they offer more than most! Everything always tasted great even if didn't sit well with my tummy and I try not to leave bad remarks because none of my family eating there has had issues so I understand that my personal digestive sensitivity makes it harder for me to enjoy things. I would eat here all the time otherwise and I love the salads!

Good quality, large sandwich - Edit
Asked to veganize the portabello sandwich, indicated as vegetarian on the menu, was told that we just had to remove the cheese and "all our bread is vegan" unlike a reviewer from a year ago - so hopefully a permanent change! Yummy quinoa salad side, already vegan. Pricier than I'm used to paying for lunch, but very large sandwich so I'm taking half home for leftovers. Love the fabric napkins and real silverware.

Giant tasty salad - Edit
I’m not one to get too excited over a salad, but with several dietary restrictions, Cafe Sol seemed to be the place to go downtown. I was relatively happy with the number of options available. I had the kale salad. It was satisfying and tasty, especially the hummus. It’s not something I’d go back for necessarily, but the cafe offered a nice place to take an afternoon break and drink coffee.

Good food, but misleading labels - Edit
We have enjoyed food from Cafe Sol for years. Recently I went in and asked about vegan desserts after I ordered my portobello panini. The cashier informed me that the panini bread is no longer vegan (who knows how long this has been the case), but they had a different bread that was vegan. I had them make it with the vegan bread and the bread was yummy, but the sandwich was much smaller than the panini bread. I was disappointed that the sandwich was labeled as vegan but made as advertised on the menu it was not truly vegan. I hope they change their menu to indicate there is a vegan option (or just make it on the vegan bread).

Maybe the bread is why my tummy usually hurts after eating here. I have serious digestive issues especially if dairy is involved. I honestly stopped eating here after trying it a few different times and always having the same issues!

Great Location - Edit
This cafe is in a great location on Mainstreet near a bookstore and lots of independent shops to browse. They had a good selection of vegan options and lots of indoor seating. The bathrooms are cute and have baskets of chalk to write messages on the wall. Friendly staff. I will definitely stop back here next time I'm in Grand Junction.

Top Choice to Eat in Grand Junction - Edit
I visit Grand Junction twice a year to see my husband's family. We love Cafe Sol because they have delicious food for all types of eaters. The staff is friendly and they are happy to make any changes/substitutions to make something vegan.
Read more**Note - you have to order the sandwiches on their 5-grain bread as their other bread is not vegan.
My husband always gets the portobello panini with tomatoes, pesto, hummus, and artichoke.
I like their grilled veggie burger which is a black bean patty (my husband thinks it is mushy but I love the flavor). It has cheese that can be left off to make it vegan.
There are also a number season items on the menu that are often veg. and vegan (the polenta fries - vegan without the cheese are delicious too!).
Their salads are also fantastic and their portions are huge.
This place is a favorite of mine because the flavors are great and the food is always fresh. Using locally sourced ingredients and making everything from scratch it stands apart from most places in GJ. We eat there at least two or three times every time we visit.
Pros: Good Vegan Options, Fresh Food, Food Made from Scratch

Good food, great vibe. - Edit
I had the Portobello Panini which is their vegan panini option. This was a yummy sandwich which also had tomatoes, pesto, hummus and artichoke. They also had kalamata olives, which I should have ordered without because I don’t really enjoy them, but the sandwich was good regardless. I got the Greek quinoa salad on the side which was good, but had that same olive flavor I am not fond of.
Read moreThey also have a “grilled veggie burger” which is a black bean patty. It has a queso fresco that can be removed to make it completely vegan. There are also a number of other veg. and vegan options on the menu, and each of them ate labeled for easy picking.
This place has always been a favorite of mine because they use locally sourced ingredients and make everything from scratch. They even use cute little hand made cloth napkins and have multiple kinds of fruit infused water for those drinking water, which they serve in glasses as opposed to plastic.

Large yummy portions - Edit
We found this place driving through Colorado on the way to Moab. We ordered the grilled veggie panini on GF bread - very large sandwich and delicious! The GF was baguette style and one of the best GF breads I’ve had. Side of chilled beet salad was also yummy- infused with mint. If I was making that drive again I would get this food to go again.

Met a new veggie friend - Edit
Fast, easy and delicious! I had the Trail Mix salad (half was plenty). I ordered the Palisade peach ginger vinaigrette on the side, but ended up using some it was soooo good. Met up with Rhonda Dunlap, to network with another veggie minded gal. I even left my book, "Simply Delicious, Plant-based recipes for a healthy life." at Crystal Books and Gifts across the street.

nice space, great food - Edit
My omni mom and I shared a Trail Mix salad and the veggie burger panini. Both were delicious and the portions were very generous. Service was fast and prices were reasonable for the size. Get the small salad unless you're really hungry! They had several vegan options on the menu and several more that could be veganized. We will be back!

Cafe Sol is our Fave Place to eat! - Edit
Cafe Sol received the Best Vegetarian Restaurant in 2017 in the Portrait magazine by the Daily Sentinel.
Read moreWe always have a great meal at Cafe Sol. Fresh made to order salads, a daily vegan soup, smoothies, appetizers panini's and they have a Veganini panini. Cafe Sol is very accommodating if you find something that sounds good but has animal products in it, they will exchange them for another fruit or veggie. They make everything at the restaurant except the bread which they get locally too. They have such a variety of salads to choose from and fresh-made dressings. We usually get a combo soup and salad or salad and panini. The large salad is a great bowl of lettuce and toppings. We love to dine at Cafe Sol as we always get a fresh meal and the location downtown is great! Been going there for years and will continue as the owner is always trying new things. We feel so fortunate to have consistent, good quality meals every time.
I would give Cafe Sol a 5 Star rating but Happy Cow has a pre-set rating system: "The restaurant rating system is set to disallow a "5 Star" overall rating for restaurants which are "Veg-Friendly. We do this to show extra support & consideration for pure vegetarian and vegan businesses."

Meals easily modified to fit Vegan diet - Edit
Enjoyed a delicious Veg #1 panini, asked for no feta and mayo, with a side of quinoa salad! I like the atmosphere. They usually have these large wooden bowls at the register filled with yummy fresh veggies and fruits (that sets the mood for me!). There's free water flavored with lemons or strawberry/cucumber - so refreshing!! It's a great place to bring the kids along, just use the plastic cups vs the glass, at the water station! The cloth napkins are a nice touch! I really enjoy the location as it's located in our historic downtown surrounded by charming little shops. I heard the owner will be adding more vegan options and I'm so excited to try all the new things!

Always some vegan choices on the menu - Edit
Cafe Sol is a very popular local downtown restaurant in Grand Junction. It is clean with a pleasant decor and the servers are friendly and attentive. It specializes in soups and salads. I am vegan and go there once a week for a soup/salad combo. Their daily specials always include one delicious original vegan soup. They also have a vegan panini, called the Veganini. I highly recommend the Kale Trail salad, minus cheese of course. The regular size salad is quite substantial. The large size salad is huge. They will happily "veganize" other items upon your request. The noon lunch hour can be very busy as locals love this place!
