Delicious and exciting options - Edit
Amazing food and a nice cozy atmosphere, the lady serving us was so friendly and welcoming too!
Read moreWe had the takoyaki, fried gyoza, soy meat soboro Don, and the unagi set. We couldn’t wait to finally try vegan versions of such classic dishes and they did not disappoint- the highlight was the unagi (eel, made from tofu), if was such an impressively constructed dish, and both visually and literally delicious.
For sure a highlight of our trip
Pros: Unagi set, Authentic Japanese dishes veganified, Cozy atmosphere

Charming place, highly recommended - Edit
Very nice and charming little place. Has a menu of a few dishes including one daily changing set, which I had together with some boiled dumplings. Very good and delicious. Staff is very friendly, pricing is very reasonable.

Nice place with good vegan options - Edit
We had the soy cutlets with rice and a curry bao bun. Both was good but I would have liked more filling in the bao bun. It also fell apart easily which I wasn’t crazy about. It wasn’t soggy but definitely a bit too moist for my liking. We met someone in Osaka who tried the Eel and said it was really good but we didn’t go for it in the end.

Cozy spot for a lovely meal! - Edit
Visited on September 20, 2023. A cozy spot that I really enjoyed in Kyoto was Cafe Ren. It was further away from the main tourist attractions but totally worth the trek. They had some unique dishes, including options like vegan takoyaki (unfortunately sold out, so I didn’t get to try it). The vegan unagi was exceptional. I rarely encounter vegan unagi, but Cafe Ren nailed it!

Nice place - Edit
Small place off the main road. The lady working is super nice. I got the kaarage (it said it was spicy but I didn’t find it particularly spicy) and the takoyaki. Both were good, but if I went back I would probably try other things.
