Comfortable and friendly

I often go to Mimosa on my way home from yoga. I love the smoothies which change regularly and their food is delicious. Favourite smoothie is the chunky monkey and I request a shot of espresso for an extra kick! Food is delicious and service is always very friendly and accommodating.

Pros: Excellent food, Nice vibe, Friendly staff

Cons: Smoothie size on the small side , Pricey

The tacos and vegan brekkie is very tasty. Friendly atmosphere and some delicious deserts too. Quite a few vegan options and a big board that says “I love Vegan” :)

Nice vege cafe

I'm hardly in Takapuna so this is my first time to Mimosa. As we were in a rush, I asked how long it would take for the waffles to be ready, and was told approx. 25 minutes. That's pretty long! So, I decided on a raw vegan coffee cheesecake which was already ready to be served. It was delicious, as all raw vegan cheesecakes usually are! The place was crowded for its size (it's a smallish cafe). I would visit again, when I have more time on my hands.

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Crowded

pleasant & popular

what is better than a walk on Takapuna beach on a sunny Sunday afternoon? Being able to have food to suit euro or Asian tastes for lunch afterwards as well! simple enough menu. beautiful coffee. really tasty presentation of mushrooms on sour dough. polite and nice service. but I struggle a bit to believe it passed a hygiene inspection with grot on the chains holding lights above the kitchen and toilet that needs clean tiles not dirty brick walls.

Beautiful and friendly

I've been here a few times and loved it every visit. The food is delicious, the staff are really friendly and they were happy to let me shuffle ingredients around on a vegetarian dish to make it vegan despite lots of vegan options already being on the menu.

lovely place, simple comfort food

I like the vibe at this place. I love that it is all vegetarian and very vegan friendly. I just wish they had a bigger menu with some less 'conservative' options. For vegan options from memory: avocado and tomato on toast, creamy mushrooms on toast, rice and veg bowl, japanese curry, salad. It would be nice to see some more unusual choices, ie. things I can't make for myself at home. How about some Japanese fusion food? Like an Agedashi tofu burger with wasabi mayo and spinach gomae! (there you go Mimosa, take my idea and run with it!) :)

Pros: nice atmosphere, friendly staff, all veg!

Cons: quite simple menu, expensive for the portion size

Lovely food and atmosphere

I went to Mimosa for brunch on a Sunday morning. The place was busy but luckily they take reservations and so I had a table down the back of the restaurant where it is a bit quieter. Mimosa didn’t use to be a veg café but is now. They have heaps of vegan and gluten free options too. I tossed up between creamy mushrooms on sourdough or pancakes with banana and salted caramel sauce and ice cream. The pancakes won and were lovely. They came as a stack with layers of pancake, caramel and sliced banana topped with banana ice cream, and sprinkled with toasted pecans. At $18.50 they are not a cheap or huge meal, but the many elements of the dish and the flavours and contrasting textures made it worth it.
I also ordered a rhubarb tart and blueberry muffin to takeaway. I was very happy to see the muffin was banana free. It is really hard to buy a vegan muffin in New Zealand without banana as so many bakers use banana as an egg replacer either because they are new to vegan baking or can’t be bothered trying other ways to bind and make a light muffin. I like banana but am heartily sick of every muffin I buy really being a banana muffin when it was advertised as something else. So it was a relief to have a blueberry muffin that actually was a blueberry muffin. It is also a sign that Mimosa have put some thought into their vegan baking. The rhubarb tart was gluten free and also yummy. It was more like a cake with a rhubarb topping rather than a tart but I liked it a lot. It had the right amount of sweetness to offset the rhubarb without being overly sweet as many rhubarb dishes are.
Mimosa has Japanese influences reflected in the menu as well as Western dishes. I look forward to returning and trying them in the future.

Pros: lots of vegan options, great vegan baking, friendly staff

Cons: busy

Delicious food - lots of vegan options

This place is a great find! Good breakfast and lunch menus with strong emphasis on gluten free and organic items. Lots of menu is vegan or can be vegan upon request. Japanese influence and much of the menu is different (in a good way) from the usual cafe menu (and from their website). Excellent 'sweet treats' cabinet with changing treats to choose from - most of which are vegan & gluten free - what a wonderful feeling to have so much choice. If they have the vegan pumpkin pie I recommend grabbing yourself a slice. Also I loved the Japanese style vege curry. Yum.

Pros: Lots of gluten free & vegan, Interesting menu, Warm and cosy in winter months

Cons: Not very large so can get busy
