Cute, Argentinian and vegan! - Edit
While the food can be a little hit or miss, I really appreciate that while the menu is omnivorous, the majority of the options are actually vegan! The owners are from Argentina and when they opened the restaurant, they served meat, but having gone vegan 10 years ago, they removed most of the meat entrees and kept expanding the vegan ones. I've had two things here, the vegan crab cake sandwich (excellent!) and the butterfly tofu special (good). I've also tried two desserts, the hummingbird cake, and the chocolate raspberry cake. Both delicious. It's a really nice place to bring a group since they truly can cater to any diet...and maybe even entice an omnivore to try a plant-based option.
Read moreUpdate: I went back this weekend and got to try some new things. While I was the only vegan in the group, 4 out of 6 people ordered plant-based!!
Here's some items we tried:
- Vegan cheese ravioli with cashew cream sauce and vegetables — (amazing sauce but the raviolis themselves were a bit bland. Still, I appreciate being able to order a cheesy vegan pasta dish that feels more special than Mac and cheese)
- Vegan seitan cheez steak— tasty and very spicy steak, but needed a little more cheez in our opinion
- Vegan extravaganza (special) — a great combination of delicious vegan foods
- chocolate raspberry cake - SUPER RICH! Vegan, and still a winner!

New favorite place - Edit
I was in town visiting the area for 3 days and found this little gem. I went there twice in my short time and both times were great! I got the pear salad both times. The first time I got the vegan bruschetta with it and the second time I tried the sweet potato soup. My bowl and plate was devoid of even a crumb because I ate everything. There are so many vegan dishes to try that I can’t wait until I’m back to the area. Delicious! And, the service was exceptional.

Cozy & quiet - Edit
The menu is extensive, plus there are off-menu specials--I had a tough time deciding! I got the vegan cheese steak, which was made with seitan, a vegan cheese sauce, and a very good soft bread. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual lunch or dinner. Service is attentive and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable.

LOTS of vegan options. Everything we had was delicious… - Edit
There were 3 vegan soups, salads, and over 20 other options (sandwiches, pastas, seitan options, more…).Both soups were tasty, the Energia salad was really special, and the black bean burger was the best I’ve had. We tried one of the vegan desserts (a chocolate raspberry cake) and it was ridiculously good.

Cozy Hole-in-the-Wall with Lots of Vegan Options - Edit
I went here for the first time recently and look forward to returning to try more menu items. I had the seitan cheesesteak that used cashew cream sauce as the cheeze. It came with a large side salad. It was great to have a mix of comfort and health food on one plate. It was quite a bit of food too. My father liked his quinoa/lentil burger. His also came with a salad.

They have a great menu for vegans and non-vegans alike. There is an entire vegan menu, and a lot of the menu items have a vegan option. I tried the Energy soup and the Bella sandwich and both were delicious. The atmosphere was comfortable and clean and the staff was really helpful to a newer vegan.

Great food, great staff, great atmosphere - Edit
There's a whole page of vegan friendly items which is glorious!! Start with the vegan bruschetta if you'd like- if you like bruschetta, you'll thank me! (It's vegan because there is no cheese on it, so make sure to ask for the vegan one!) I've always liked the meals here, but the cheese steak is my go to! Although, my fiance got the vegan stir fry (he added the seitan which came in three big pieces (5 inch by 2 inch), he cut them up and mixed them in) and it was really delicious. It can be cold in here, so feel free to ask the staff to turn the heat up, they're glad to help. You can sit in the front (when you first walk in, high tables) or the back (normal tables- 2 tops (# of people at a table), 4 top, and 6 tops!) If you don't care about table height, just see whatever is more your vibe that day- it's never too too loud in here (and I'm sensitive to that!).

Surprisingly Vegan Friendly - Edit
Saw this on happycow so we gave it a try recently. Was delightfully surprised to see how vegan friendly this place is. They offer loads of vegan dishes. Here's my Cafe Con Leche review:
Read moreIt's casual and small, and the plantbased menu items all seem pretty healthy. We ordered a few things to share: the black bean burger, energy salad, and a burrito. Everything tasted good and portions were fair, though not cheap. Overall a great choice for vegans when in this area.

Not a fan - Edit
I used to work in Newtown and senior staff loved this place. While I was happy to see a restaurant with vegan options, I didn't really enjoy anything I tried here.
Read moreMost items were either bland or were had flavors I didn't care for. The vegan menu is pretty large, so don't let my experience deter you from trying it.
I recall not liking the crabcake dinner and the barbecue sandwich - one of the worst attempts at barbecue I've ever had - the flavor just wasn't for me. I never went back for takeout after that. I the entrees were too expensive for me to play trial and error with.
It was to go and the staff wasn't careful about putting vegan dressing with the side salad for a vegan order, which is silly. Somehow it was caught.
The location is in a basement, so don't expect it to be a pretty place to go eat.
Years later, I tried Luhv with low expectations because of the same owners, and I really liked it.

Off the path Vegan - Edit
My wife suggested I come here. I was in the area and came in to give it a try. Small location off the Main Street. Cozy place. Nice menu with an entire section dedicated to plant based options. I started with the vegan bruschetta. Four pieces of bread with the appropriate toppings. Nice starter. Big enough to share. Moved onto the Vegan crabcake sandwich with a side salad (recommended by my very friendly server). Nice flavor. Good portion size. I would definitely come back.

yummy vegan menu - Edit
Cafe Con Leche has a separate vegan menu they call "Green Tea". We tried Daniel's Chipotle Hummus with pita to start. It was good but not among the best hummus I've ever had. For my main plate I had the Cheikan Provencal. They use house made seitan for their cheikan and it's amazing. The texture was perfect. My spouse had the cheikan marsala and loved it as well. For dessert we had the Chocolate Raspberry Cake and I ended up wishing I ordered my own so I didn't have to share!
Read moreOverall, everything was really good and all of the ingredients obviously very fresh.
Edit: After several years of eating at this restaurant I will not be returning. Three take-out orders in a row were ruined. Each time, I ordered two vegan dishes only to get home and find out one was a meat dish. After being made aware, staff refunded the meat dish. Well, guess what, my whole meal was ruined not half. I left my phone number for the manager to call me. I never received calls. I do not feel like they did enough to rectify this multiple mistake issue.
Pros: seitan dishes, fresh ingredients
Cons: small space

Never going back - Edit
I've been here a few times and the food is good but I just went today and ordered my go-to vegan burrito. I was with my mom and we ordered the same thing to go. When I got home and when to eat it I saw cheese and didn't remember vegan cheese on it before. I looked closer and saw chicken. I was obviously disgusted. My mom had to go all the way back and get her money back. She was horrified at the thought that she almost ate it. Giving two vegans a chicken and cheese burrito is a big mistake. We will never go back.

Quite the hidden gem, worth a stop! - Edit
If you're going to know one thing about my experience at Cafe con Leche, it's that I accidentally said "damn" when my burrito came out.
Read moreBut of course I'll tell you other things too ;)
On my way to World of Falafel, which unfortunately was closed for succot (jewish new year) so I ended up yelping this place with a long history dating back to just before the 21st century, and a much changed menu from back then, I was thrilled to see a whole page with vegan options. Everything from mexican to indian to "Vegan Crabcakes" which I'll need to try.
Upon suggestion of the hostess, i ended up with the vegan burrito, stuffed with spanish rice, romaine, and very well seasoned and cooked seitan. All wrapped in a blue corn flour tortilla and a side salad for $14. A little more than chipotle but also a little better than chipotle
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Great place, very quaint, and empty on a Sunday at 3:15 (I guess not many people eat full meals at that time...) Lookig forward to returning some day.
Pros: BIG burritos, Neat menu
Cons: A little hidden from the main street

Undiscovered gem - Edit
This restaurant is a rather surprising find. We actually discovered it prior to my becoming vegan and very much enjoyed their conventional menu items. We became vegan just a few months back, revisited the vegetarian/vegan options and was delighted to find them as good as the foods we had enjoyed prior. Although off the main street in Newtown, the entrance is in the back and can be easily missed if you aren't paying attention. The food is invariably fresh, wonderfully prepared and extremely reasonably priced. The servers are both young and exuberant about their love of the food. The feel of the restaurant is a bit kitchy, kind of like eating in grandma's kitchen, but it is cozy and pleasant, especially in the front room (our personal preference over the back). We've eaten there a bunch of times and food quality has been consistent across the board. It's become a neighborhood favorite of ours as well as those to whom we've introduced it.

Great Cafe, Plan on Going Again - Edit
I had the bruschetta, vegan crab cake, and vegan chocolate cake and everything was delicious. The vegan menu was pretty big and there was also a traditional menu, which the rest of my family appreciated. Some of the best food I've eaten in a while and the portions were really big. Definitely plan on returning.

Wonderful! - Edit
When my fiance told me he wanted to take me out on a date, I chose Cafe Con Leche because the full vegan menu meant we could both easily find something hearty to enjoy. First off, the ambiance alone exceeded expectations. I love how tucked in and European it feels. Second, the food was wonderful! He got a chicken fajita, and I got a cheikan fajita. My fajita was fresh and flavorful. My fiance even tried a bit and said mine was seasoned to perfection. I also had the mixed berry cobbler (sadly they were out of the vegan one) and a cafe con leche with almond milk We will definitely be going back!
