Gorgeous food with gorgeous views - Edit
We visited Herceg Novi in October 2019 and, as a vegan couple, we made sure to do some research beforehand. We came across Cafe Barbarella online and we were excited to know that there were some good vegan options in the area. We walked around the beautiful coast to the cafe on the first day of our trip and we were delighted to find a double page spread of all vegan food! Beautiful views, delicious food and lovely, warm, friendly service. We loved the gorgeous little cats in the area - the staff took great care of them (but made sure they didn’t get inside, of course!). My almond milk iced coffee was delicious - the perfect refreshment for a beautiful sunny day - and my other half enjoyed a nice cold cider in the sunshine! We shared the tapenade and hummus board to start with, which was delicious, and then I had the zucchini and pine nut pasta while he had the vegetable couscous. All well-priced and tasty, we can’t complain! And how can you resist lunch with that beautiful view?! We highly recommend this little gem to any vegans looking to visit the area.

Cool but only few vegan options - Edit
Very nice cozy caffe on the sea coast, they changed their meni, so now they serve only sushi, vegan options are maki rolls with avocado and cucumber, and beside that we had miso soup, and my mom had Filadelphia rolls. Maki rolls were really nice with wasabi and soya sos, and miso soup was a bit to ordinary. Stuff was very friendly and nice.

Cons: Only two vegan options, Too ordinary soup, They were out of cucumber

Very nice place - Edit
Owners are really nice and welcoming. There are plenty of vegan options and everything is homemade. We had fresh lemonade, hummus & olive spread (served with vegetables and bread), avocado salad, and borsht. Everything was delicious!

Lovely place on the sea. - Edit
Very kind staff, cute decor and nice selection of lunch and snack items! We had a delicious fruit compote, berry smoothie with almond milk, lentil soup and veggie platter with an awesome olive spread and hummus. They have sorbet as well! We stopped in to do some work online on a gloomy weather day, and it certainly brightened our day.

Fantastic - Edit
The five star rating is only available for fully vegan and vegetarian restaurants unfortunately as this is definitely five star in my opinion. The vegan menu is not extensive (although 12 dishes) but far superior to any of the cheese-less pizza or pasta dishes we have eaten so far and the homemade (vegan, of course) pesto is to die for. And yet, nobody did ♥️

The sharing starter was amazing and so was my husband’s lentil soup. It is an organic restaurant and there was also alcohol available. We left full and happy.

Two-page, dedicated vegan menu - Edit
It's difficult to get vegan food in Montenegro (apart from the ever-present veggie pizzas without cheese) so Cafe Barbarella was a welcome discovery. The cafe is located on the seafront, just before the tunnel, if you're walking from Herceg Novi to Igalo. It takes about 10 minutes to get there from the Old Town. On my first visit, I had the three types of hummus with crudités, followed by borscht. On my next visit, I had the couscous, roasted vegetables and chickpea dish. They also have avocado salad, lentil soup and various other simple dishes. The staff are pleasant and the food is pretty good. Just remember to ask for the borscht without cream to make sure it's vegan.
