Love this spot so much! The coffee is solid, and they have so many delicious vegan food options. I was confused because online I wasn’t seeing anything but they have a fully vegan menu.

Read moreThe hidden patio out back is nice in the warmer months and the owner is great. The sandwiches are quite reasonably priced and well portioned. Cafe 53 is easily my favorite place to go for a byte in Hyde park.

This cafe had so many vegan options including vegan pastries. I ordered the vegan meatball and it was good but I felt I wanted more variety. Luckily someone else in the restaurant was feeling the same way (you can always tell) so we swapped half of each our sandwiches. The vegan pesto chicken was delicious. Very filling, couldn’t even finish everything believe it or not. The man behind the counter was very kind and helpful.

Filling meal on a chilly night - Edit
Couldn’t decide between the many vegan sandwich options, so I decided to split the chicken pesto and meatball with someone else in the restaurant. Also got a vegan banana walnut brownie which was better than it looks in the picture. Sandwiches were huge and pretty yummy, the pesto chicken was my favorite. Thanks to the other reviewer who recommended the Dutch crunch bread, boy was it crunchy! Service was friendly and knowledgeable about which pastries were vegan. Would definitely stop here again if I was in the neighborhood.

Try your sandwich on their delicious Dutch Crunch bread. I used to get the Vegan Meatball regularly (which is incredible), but just tried their vegan Cajun chicken sandwich, which is out of this world on Dutch Crunch. So good!

Most of the sandwiches have a vegan version, they are all interesting and tasty. Soy, almond, coconut and oat milk available for drinks. I recommend the back patio if the weather permits.

We tried a few places that were closed due to the holiday and stopped here. I was worried based on the reviews and the the menu did not knock my socks off, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would not go out of my way to eat here, but it had many vegan sandwiches, lots of teas and coffees, a great chip selection, and some vegan desserts. The food was good and filling. I had the meatball sub. My brother tried a dessert. We’d go back if needing a quick bite.

The falafels were old and mushy so was the pita bread. Fattoush salad had cheap ingredients. I would not be surprised if the vegan falafel sandwich had a sort of dairy ranch

This place has SO MANY vegan sandwiches (that are nut-free too). The workers are nice and the atmosphere is cool. I cannot recommend enough, especially the artichoke chicken sandwich. 10/10 incredible
