Good but small portions. - Edit
I'm used to comfort food coming in big portions so it was a little disappointing to see the size of plates, especially for the high prices. However, everything was tasty and I enjoyed my meal very much!

Exceptional meal! - Edit
Really loved the whole meal from start to finish. Top level service and amazing food. The fried lasagna was very good as was the cake I ordered and the strawberry lemonade. Elevated soul food, all vegan.

Not your same old same old…Very Creative - Edit
This felt like an upscale restaurant without the upscale prices. The food was creative and tasty! We had the meatballs, kale gratin and a pizza. The meatballs were outstanding!! The pizza was very good, much better than other vegan pizza that use too much fake cheese. The creative toppings really made it! The kale was our least favorite, because the other 2 were so delicious.

100% Vegan - Edit
Had a celebration dinner at this restaurant and the attentive was appreciated. The service was great and the waitress took time to explain how their menu works. The atmosphere was lovely as lights were dim and music playing in the back room. The jerk Mac and cheese was the best for me, it was creamy but had a spicy kick to it. I love the Franklin green dry vermouth cucumber drink it was really good and had a nice taste to it. Their kale salad was a taste of the tropical as it had various fruits and the ranch dressing was excellent. The night was even more special as the restaurant made my special day meaningful by having candles for the moment along with a glass to taste the event. The cornbread wasn’t my favorite.

Great service, great food - Edit
Very unique dishes, even for a vegan restaurant in nyc, and very tasty!!! Extremely friendly service and a nice location. We sat on the sidewalk and it was exquisite. Tex Roy, our server, was lovely. Will be back for a special occasion.

OMG The Southern Fried Lasagna! - Edit
What’s not to like about Cadence?! The atmosphere, decor, super friendly staff, music and last but not least, THE FOOD! My 1st time going was with a group of 12 people so the menu was preset to certain items to accommodate a bigger party and it’s served family style. I was blown away by the flavors alone! The next 2 times I went, I was able to order anything off the menu and boy oh boy did I. It was definitely a splurge but worth it! The potato salad with the homemade pickles was amazing!! I enjoyed the crisp texture. The southern fried lasagna is my absolute favorite!! I could order 5 plates of it. For a special occasion or simply to treat yourself, dining at Cadence is an experience you won't soon forget!

Great Southern Vegan Food - Edit
The food is amazing. It makes Southern classics vegan and does it by still celebrating the plant based ingredients instead of hiding them away.

Best Southern Food - Edit
Dining at Cadence was a memorable experience, from the seasoned potato salad with a bit of crunch to the maple skillet cornbread with melty butter and mango jam, and palm cake with a flavorful chipotle aioli slaw. I liked the pine nut ricotta and spinach in the Southern fried lasagna, which has been called a “masterpiece.” But I didn’t care for the Beyond Meat ground beef in it. The cobbler was superb, with hot and tender berries and apple.

Amazing vegan soul food - Edit
We stopped in with a last minute reservation and wound up ordering half the menu. Everything was good - but a particular item I would call out is the Mac and cheese. I usually wouldn’t care too much (it’s not a dish I seek out) but this actually has a ton of flavor, would order again.

My fave restaurant in NYC - Edit
Every time I go I feel like I’ve stumbled upon a hidden treasure. The decor is so damn cool but it’s the food that brings me back - the “crab” cake and especially the southern fried lasagne, which tbh I think about all the time. It’s a bit of a splurge but worth it, set apart by the chef’s innovative dishes

No bad options - Edit
Went here for an early dinner and loved everything we tried. Had the potato salad, the jerk mac & cheese, the heart of palm crabcake, the deep fried lasagna, and the cornbread. It was carb paradise. Server was very friendly, and the drinks were delicious.

Favorite Vegan Place in the City - Edit
I’ve been many times and had most of the dishes, the grits and mushroom waffles are always stand outs. As a warning, they can be pretty hot. They usually recommend two plates per person but I’ve found it’s more like 1.5. It’s worth every dollar for food this good.

It's all about the cornbread - Edit
The cornbread was hands-down the best I've ever tasted, and the mac and cheese was a creamy, cheesy delight. Everything on the menu was top-notch.

Overall cool - Edit
I had an ok time being here! I actually worked walking distance from this place when I went to support with a family member to eat. The ambiance was really nice. The Mac was seasoned well but a little too runny for me . My favorite would have been the cornbread but the butter was so cold and hard. I wish it was soft like the jam they served it with. You pay for the experience here not just the food. Overall the staff and the place was ok🌻.

Meh n tasteless - Edit
Cadence is a way overpriced unseasoned mess. We were shocked when our $31 friend lasagna had beyond meat in it and it doesn’t say it on the menu. Small over priced portions. Friend green tomatoes lacked any flavor and the cornbread was just too too sugary. We couldn’t believe how proud they were using palm oil butter on the cornbread, especially after seeing the destruction of the rain forest in Borneo. They also served us a $10 bottle of water. Just not good. 3 dishes $100. Go to Tiam instead.

One of NYC’s best - Edit
I really can’t understand how this place isn’t rated higher. As we ate our way through the city this place stood out as an absolute star.
Read moreLet’s set a few things. First, have a reservation. I feel like that goes without saying but it’s a smaller place. Do yourself that favor. It’s a smaller menu but there’s plenty to try.
The food is amazing. I can say that the fried green tomatoes and the buffalo mushrooms and waffle were highlights, but everything was delicious. The service (Tito) was excellent and I’d definitely go back.
Pros: Flavors and combinations , Service, Atmosphere
Cons: Smaller menu

Not worth it. - Edit
I don’t really understand why this place doesn’t have less stars. Is it the high price that makes people think it’s good?…
Read moreThe mac’n’cheese was terrible; pasta with a soupy cheese water at the bottom. I’ve had store-bought mac’and’cheese that was better.
The fries lasagna tasted very good. But it was so oily, and maybe made with a not so good oil, that I ended up waking at up night several times with indigestion, which I never have.
The ambiance is okay but the music was too loud for my taste. Service was good.
I wouldn’t recommend it at all.

Good but not worth the price - Edit
I was so excited to go here, but I’m sad to say I wasn’t wowed. I love gravy and soul food, but I felt like the dishes were yummy but just okay. Especially for the price. If they were cheaper I would be a lot more inclined to advocate for this place. I just don’t think I’ll return

Get the mushrooms - Edit
I'm a sucker for a good oyster mushroom....Cadence did not disappoint. Everything we tried was good, but both mushroom dishes were really incredible. Didn't get to try any desserts because the corn bread was too desserty already (and maybe a bit because we'd already spent $50 apiece without ordering drinks?)

Authentic soul food made vegan - Edit
I was absolutely blown away by the food at Cadence! Everything was so tasty, flavorful, and VERY filling (partly due to the fat content as well LOL). They serve plant-based versions of authentic soul food classics, and you couldn't tell it was vegan! Our favorites were definitely the Southern fried lasagna and jerk mac & cheese. The buffalo oyster mushroom burger was also excellent. The palm cake was the only thing we were slightly less impressed with - the creamy slaw served with it was great, but the palm cake itself was a bit bland.
Read moreHowever, the menu is quite pricey. Expect to pay about 60-70$ per person. You will leave feeling very full though. Service could've been a bit friendlier as well; I found our server to be a bit curt.
Overall though, I still greatly enjoyed my experience here and would recommend visiting this restaurant if you're in East Village!
Pros: Delicious soul food, Finger-licking greasy goodness
Cons: Pricey, Service not too friendly

Your gallbladder will hurt but you will be happy - Edit
Cadence is a beautiful restaurant with vegan Southern comfort food and all the calories and fat that implies. Everyone there was so friendly and the table for two was a cozy upholstered corner booth and comfortable.
Read moreIt is pricey and they suggested four selections for the two of us. We got the fried tomatoes , smoked grits, palm cake, collard green wrap and two drinks (wine specialty drinks, wine and beer only) and it came to $124. with tip. We would not have left hungry had we ordered less however but we were happy that we tried all the dishes we did.
We had a five-star experience because of the atmosphere and the service but I have to say personally not all the food was that spectacular - the grits were just so rich with not much crunch or texture, wrap was just ok, fried tomatoes were just amazing however.
We would return in a heartbeat once our gallbladders stop hurting.
This is another restaurant in Michael Kenney's empire.
