Great vegan options - clearly marked - Edit
Delicious vegan options, clearly marked. Definitely get on the waitlist for a table if you head over for dinner time. Rainbow salad (specify vegan) is a fave!

veg-friendly Burmese cuisine - Edit
Me & my friend went here for dinner recently. They don't take reservations so we had to wait 30 minutes & checked out the lovely bookstore "Books Inc" right across the street from the restaurant. I have heard lots of great things about Burma Superstar & a buzz permeates here.
Read moreWe split the Rainbow Salad which doesn't usually come vegan yet can easily be made so. There are a whopping 22 ingredients in the Rainbow Salad including four types of noodles, green papaya, onions, & too much to list. It came with a tamarind dressing & was $11.75.
For the main course we split the Fiery Vegetables with Tofu. It came with:
Stir fried string beans, red bell peppers, tofu, & basil in their five spice - sweet heat for $11.50
We paired the main course with Coconut Rice:
Aromatic jasmine rice cooked with coconut milk & topped with fried onions for $2.75
Everything we had was amazing & we ordered just the right amount of food. The Rainbow Salad is truly unique with a plethora of flavors & textures. The Fiery Vegetables & Tofu had great texture along with the right amount of heat that wasn't overly spicy along with sweetness. The Coconut Rice was flavorful cooked to perfection.
This was both me & my friend's first experience with Burmese cuisine which we both loved.
While the restaurant might not be vegan or vegetarian they are very veg-friendly.
We'll be back for sure!
Pros: a whopping 22 ingredients in the Rainbow Salad , veg-friendly Burmese cuisine

Tasty, vegan options! - Edit
I love how the menu is clearly marked on what is vegan and/or gluten-free options.
Read moreI ordered the shan noodles with tofu and was surprised at the complexity of the spices (I was pleasantly surprised by the pickled radish). Burmese food tends to lean towards very spicy, which is just what I love! But my partner who can’t handle spice didn’t enjoy his dish. 😅 They do have mild dishes, but some foods are spicy by default and can’t be altered.

Favorite spot to take visitors - Edit
Part of a local chain with almost the same menu across locations, Burma Superstar offers authentic, flavorful, mostly healthy food with excellent service. The Alameda location has a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating without the excessive wait times common in SF.
Read moreWide variety of fresh and delicious food and drinks including appetizers, salads, noodles, rice, and tofu/vegetable dishes (no fake substitutes), cocktails/mocktails, beer, tea. Menu has vegan labels and staff are very knowledgeable about making dishes vegan.
Expensive but worth it, recommend ordering via their website for takeout or going close to opening times so you won’t need to wait for a table (no reservations). You can also take tea leaf salad kits to go.
Pros: Variety of delicious vegan food, Very professional staff/service
Cons: Pricy, Serves meat
