Needs better options or training on vegan pies - Edit
The house salad was great. I ordered a BYO pizza with daiya cheese, but was surprised when I took a bite and found they put real cheese under the vegan cheese. The waitress mentioned having confirmed with the kitchen it was daiya prior to bringing it out. The cheese on the pizza looked vegan on top, but there was unmistakable real cheese below it. She was apologetic and they took it off the bill. Just be mindful of this when ordering your pie.

A Welcome Addition to a Michigan Franchise - Edit
Buddy’s is a good option if you are really craving that Detroit-style that the original Buddy’s made ubiquitous.

Unfortunately, there is a negative that just cannot be ignored. To be frank, these pizzas cost a lot. Normally, I find cost objective — I’m willing to pay more for better quality food. But with Quarantion’s opening nearby in EastTown with similar Detroit-style pizza with comparable options and taste for half the price, it makes it difficult to recommend Buddy’s over Quarantion’s.
That aside, I will always welcome a restaurant that decides to offer vegan options. This is a welcome addition to a franchise that gives vegans a choice when ordering with a group of friends.

Amazing Vegan Pizza - Edit
I travel two hours one-way for this pizza if that gives you any idea how good it is. Buddy's uses Daiya vegan cheese. The crust on their Detroit-style pizzas is to die for! Buddy's has a long list of gourmet toppings like artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, basil.. in addition to standard toppings.
Read moreBuddy's salads are HUGE. A regular size salad is more than enough for two people. They're also delicious. This isn't one of those places where they give you a bowl of iceberg lettuce and they call it a salad.
They have a good wine list, cocktails and beer. Outdoor seating and friendly staff.
