A must - Edit
As the only fully vegan place in town you can’t help but go there at least once. The staff is friendly as is the owner. We’re here during rainy season and because the place is pretty open I just love being there when it’s pouring!

Best vegan food in Nicaragua - Edit
My partner and I had breakfast there very early in the morning. The juices are real juices, not blended fruits which is what you find in Central America. The breakfast bowl was perfection - fresh produce, creamy, crunchy and super filling! Nice atmosphere, lovely staff and 100% vegan!

Cons: not cheap for Nicaragua!

Simplemente Delicioso - Edit

UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP - NEW MENU MAY 1, 2017!!! - Edit
Buddha's Garden is under new ownership of vegan chef Matteo Silverman of California. The entire menu is brand new. New service, and renovations of the space make it bright and inviting. Previous reviews are not that relevant of the experience you will have here. Check them out on Facebook and Instagram to see the changes! All the food is house made including peanut butter, cashew creme, tortillas and fermented hot sauce. All smoothies and juices are creative and tasty.

hands down the worst vegan restaurant I've ever been too. - Edit
Where to begin.... Each meal is $8USD which is eye poppingly expensive for Nicaragua. We figured it would be worth the splurge cause I always like to hunt down the best vegan spots.
Read moreCan't even express how disappointed we were.
I got the veggie rolls, my other friend got the coconut squash curry and my partner got the macro bowl with noodles.
My hand rolls although they allegedly contained a bunch of ingredients came out with crusty brown rice, unripe avo and mango wrapped in stale nori.
My friends coconut curry was literally a pile of the same crusty brown rice topped with like 10 pieces of squash cooked in minimal spices and a bunch of oil. The presentation on his dish looked like the staff had shoved it on there without a single care in the world. No other veggies, no curry sauce, just some pumpkin squash and maybe a bit of chilli.
My partners macro bowl was ok, it was just a bunch of diced veggies on rice noodles with some unimaginative soy sauce.
The whole thing was flavourless, unimaginative and boring. after we left my friend said to me "it's like something you'd cook for someone if you'd never eaten vegetarian food before and had to make do with what you could scrape up in the cupboard"
Honestly if it was a couple bucks I wouldn't complain but it was SO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT WAS. Incredibly disappointed.
Don't waste your time honestly.
Staff also refused to honour a clearly signposted "discount" for a review on trip advisor, trying to say the discount was for a yoga class, not for a "menu item" even though it was clearly written.

loved the introduction to raw food - Edit
Yeah, I'd never had the raw food experience before (besides salads & co. ;)) and I've loved it. Definitely going to try some dishes back at home.
Read moreIn fact I liked it that much, that from my 4 days in SJDS I went 3 days. Wondering why not 4? Because one of the days was a Sunday, on which they close for a well deserved rest! (:
The women working there are nice, friendly & helpful, specially when having difficulties deciding what to get.
Ah, don't make the same mistake as I did! Because it's a vegetarian/vegan place I assumed, that when they write "walnut cheese", they mean actual cheese. That's why I ordered my pesto pineapple pizza without the walnut cheese. But they don't use any dairy in their menu. The only non-vegan ingredient is honey and that's clearly written in the menu.
Loved the rawsta pasta and the ice-cream. A shame I didn't had more days to go through the whole menu.
Go and enjoy! (:
Pros: rawsta pasta, peanut and chocolate ice-cream, "sour cream" from the Mexican salad

Love that this place exists - Edit
Amidst the bro culture of SJDS, it's nice to have this haven of healthy living. The ambience is tranquillo and everyone is super friendly, from the many Canadians to the two local front staff. The veg burger was really innovative and beautiful, albeit small. My friend loved her veg lasagna, it was unique and a good portion, and her berry smoothie was tops. SJDS needs more of this.

What a great find! - Edit
Was shocked to find a raw vegan restaurant in San Juan del Sur! Try one of the smoothies, I had a green one that was amazing. The olive pizza is refreshing, deliciously seasoned and a real treat.

Raw food in Nicaragua??!!! - Edit
Ok first off when i got into SJDS I expected to have to prepare all my own food and this is what I did my first two days until I hear about Buddhas Garden...This place was better than i could have dreamed of. They have an extensive menu that is almost 100% raw and vegan. The food is amazing, as good as anything I have had in NYC and California but at a fraction the cost. Juices and smoothies that would be $9-$12 dollars in the states are under $5 here and they had all the super foods and organic produce one could not hope to find anywhere else in town. This place also was attached to a Yoga Studio and had an amazing tranquil feeling inside an otherwise crazy little town. Thank you so much for this surprise. Best restaurant in the country hands down...In my bias vegan opinion hehe

juicing!!!! - Edit
This place is really cool, a nice place for anyone to hang out and have a juice, smoothie, and refresh. Get your grub on too!
Read moreIt could be a lot more intuitive, and loving for we abolitionists- if the vegan menu items were labeled as vegan.
Pros: beautiful location easy to find next to parque cen, delicious juices, nice relaxing place with garden, yoga studio
Cons: pricey. $5 for smoothies, $4 for juice, having to read menu and ask, menu items not labele
