Verrukkelijke gerechten voor hele goede prijs - Edit
Op de kaart staan 8 verschillende gerechten, we hebben met 2 personen gekozen voor 4 gangen en deze te delen. Daardoor voor een hele goede prijs alles van de kaart kunnen proeven. Elk gerecht was prachtig opgemaakt en formidabel van smaak.

Getting beter everytime I go - Edit
As Broei is in my hometown I come here since they were open. But the last two years they are getting so much better. They change the menu frequently and cook with local products. I really love to go eat here. Also a nice atmosphere and cozy interior.

I've been to Broei 4 days in a row for breakfast as it was conveniently close to my hotel, so for now that's all I can evaluate. But the options I tried were definitely 5 starts. First it's nice to read that they were not fully vegan but recently became!
Read moreThey have good latte macchiatos and cappuccinos and for food, I tried the pancakes, the banana bread (omg the ginger jam that comes with it is amazing!!) and the cinnamon roll, which is probably the 2nd best vegan cinnamon roll I've ever had (only second to The Cinnamon Snail in NYC... but that's unbeatable).
Service is super nice and friendly and the venue is also really nice, quite chill, close to the canal and very conveniently close to the Vaartsche Rijn train station (2 minutes away from Utrecht Centraal bu bus, tram or train).
I totally recommend Broei!

Vandaag voor de tweede keer (met grote pauze ertussen) bij Broei gegeten. Dit keer was de ontbijt/lunch kaart aan de beurt. Ik had de falafel flatbread en mijn vriendin pannenkoeken. De plating van beide dishes was erg mooi en de smaak was goed. Vooral de pannenkoeken zagen eruit alsof ze recht uit een kookboek kwamen. Mijn flatbread was een klein beetje oud, maar de sauzen maakten het toch tot een zeer smaakvol geheel. Goede falafel

BROEI is een gezellig restaurant met terras net buiten het centrum. Er staan veelal verfijnde hoogwaardige gerechten op de kaart. Ik ging er ontbijten en bestelde de pannenkoeken. Deze waren fluffy, en de syrup, pecannoten, vruchten, room en compote waren er heerlijk bij. Ook mijn cappuccino was prima. Verder was het gerecht mooi opgediend (zie foto). A range of options available for lunch - we had tofu sticks, fennel and saffron soup and a aubergine bowl. All excellent!
For dinner there was a four course menu with two options for each course - we picked one of each option and shared. Again, all delicious.

The first thing to mention is that the place was basically fully booked when I got there so it's an idea to book in advance if you can. They managed to squeeze me in anyway on this couch where I presume people wait for a table. The couch looked leather but it might've been false leather for all I know.
Read moreI asked for a menu and it's a 3/4/5-course more or less set menu, there seemed to be perhaps 4 options for each course but I didn't look because I didn't fancy 3 courses. I found the borrel page at the back of the drinks menu and went for de broeiplaat, a selection of different borrelhapjes (nibbles, you might call them) for €18.50 and a bottle of beer for €6. It was a mixture of so-so stuff with spot-on stuff, including a beetroot hummus (not very beetrooty), sourdough bread (spot on), tofu fingers, oyster mushroom bitterballen (spot on), falafel, nuts/snack mix, olives, and radish and ginger salad, with some sauces. It had a vegan cheese sauce which I found tasted strange. I entered very hungry and left very full.
Could I recommend it? Well, not honestly, but the quality of some of the hapjes was high enough that I'd say it's likely that a three course meal is top notch. It was also fully booked, as mentioned, so there you go. I'd agree it's a bit dear but I'd also say I could more honestly judge the price from a menu. The borrel cost around what I'd pay elsewhere.

Read moreThe food-styling ist nice, the veggies are cooked properly, but the heavy sauces, creams and oil in every course overpower the veggies. Even the dashi had fatlayer.
After three courses (and bread with olive oil as appetizer) we capitulated. At this level I would expect more.

Cons: Expensive, Too many creams & sauces, too fat, Vegetables get a raw deal

Het eten was ontzettend lekker en ook waren de gerechten absoluut verre van ‘standaard’. Ik heb dingen gegeten die ik niet kende en die ik ook niet zo snel zou kiezen maar door het beperkt aantal opties op het menu heb ik toch de keuze gemaakt. Ik was erg blij verrast!

The food is tasty, the service great and the location very cosy. However, the dishes are very small and lacks vegetarian protein, so you'll leave hungry. The cakes are great, though, and worth going for.

Soo it kinda hipster, kinda bougie, but it had a really good day menu. We, however, went for dinner, and then the options are just super limited. The food they had was really really good, but if you happen to not like one of the ingredients, you just can’t eat it. Also, it has vegetarian options, it isn’t a vegetarian restaurant, because there was some fish in the list. Also, pricey. On the other hand, really good cocktails & desserts!

During the lockdowns I ordered food here now and then. The DIY menu's were very creative and tasteful. Last time I visited the restaurant for the first time and the food again was well prepared and creative, but less creative than while the lockdowns. Still very tasteful though!

Amazing restaurant, located by the water in a cosy neighbourhood. The dishes are really unique, so you can discover new flavours or flavour combinations.
Read moreYou can choose between a 3, 4 or 5-course (fully plant-based) menu. Each course has 2 dishes to choose from (for me, that's enough). They also serve homemade sourdough bread, which is really nice.
Note: the 3, 4 or 5 course on the first page of the menu is fully plantbased, but not all the dishes on the second page of the menu vegan.
It's quite busy, so a reservations is recommendable.

Ze hadden keuze uit 3,4,5 gangen (waarvan 1 gang kaas plank dus niet vegan). Maar iedere andere gang een Vega en een vegan keuze. Hele originele gerechten (lijkt bijna fine dining) en echt super lekker! De bediening is ook heel vriendelijk en je ziet er leuk. Aanrader!

Read moreThe food is good too. Vegan options are clearly marked on the menu, and there are multiple vegan options so there's something left to choose. I had a jackfruit burger which was tasty but nothing special, although the fries that came with them were really good. On previous visits my experience was similar: consistently good food but so far nothing mind-blowing.
I still need to try their banana bread though, so I'll definitely be back!
