Vegan English breakfast

They have real HP brown sauce!!! Worth coming for that alone. They do lots of vegan versions of English classics (bangers & mash, fish & chips etc). We got the vegan full English in which was pretty good and comes with a good cuppa as well. Was a little oily but still tasty. And did I mention brown sauce?!?!

Pros: Brown sauce, Comfort food

Cons: Slightly oily

Bad food in tourist area

Not great food. I think this place just has a lot of ratings because it is in the tourist area. I would recommend leaving that area for good food. I thought the staff here were unfriendly and the food was not good. Definitely just handy because it's right on Bui vien.

Pros: Location for tourists

Cons: Food

Western vegan food fix

Run by a Vegan Brit, big range of western comfort vegan dishes to choose from including burgers, pizza and pancakes.

Pros: Good food, freshly cooked.

Cons: The place is a little worn looking.

Bland and Boring

The food lacked depth and creativity on many levels and isn’t really the healthiest vegan food you’ll find. Poorly seasoned e.g Tofu scramble was like chewing a rubber band made of soy..... In addition, whilst rustic in terms of decor a quick peak in the kitchen didn’t reveal the highest of standards for cleanliness. Great to have Vegan options but good, wholesome food is made with love. If this rings true then the food tasted like it was thrown at the plate across the kitchen which may explain the poor presentation too. It was also double the price of other places I reviewed in Saigon and not a worthy comparison in terms of food.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Location

Cons: No depth of flavour or creativity , Expensive in comparison to other Places

Fantastic

Amazing food, with loads and loads of vegan options! On top of this they will work with you to make anything on main menu vegan! The owner himself is a vegan and is so kind and helpful. The place has a lovely atmosphere and is very cheap.

Yorkshire tea!

My boyfriend and I visited for breakfast at about 07 15 before exploring Ho Chi Minh City. It was a little bit difficult to find at first. We didn't realise it was so close to the corner and walked past it initially. The sign is above the shop and isn't that obvious when you're walking along the busy street.

I was really craving some comfort food and was delighted to see that they offered Yorkshire tea! I'd not had a cup of English tea in weeks (I usually have 4 cups a day at home!). The price for was very reasonable (35000VND) seeing as it must be imported. We were seen quickly and whilst the waitress was quiet, she made us feel welcome. She found my enthusiasm for the tea funny :)

I had a cheddar cheese and baked bean toastie, which had plenty of filling and was delicious! My boyfriend had the vegetarian sausage baguette and iced coffee, which he really enjoyed.

We felt suitably fortified after our breakfast and my craving for comfort food was satisfied.

I wish we could have visited again but we didn't have time. I will definitely fantasise about their Yorkshire tea and cheese/bean toasties for the rest of my trip.

Pros: Yorkshire tea , Comfort food

Cons: Plastic straw

Great food and great service!

Loved the food here. Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. A bit more expensive than other places in Vietnam, but they really care about where there food comes from. Would totally recommend!

Tastes just like home

Perfect for if your looking for English breakfast foods! My boyfriend and I both had egg and soldiers made just like how mum would make it. They also had plenty of clearly marked vegan breakfast, lunch and dinner items. Perfect for any homesick or hungover Brit. Also have a nice selection of boardgames.

Pros: Lots of clearly marked vegan options

Cons: Not the cheapest place , Could benefit from a more cafe-like design

Not bad.

It’s ok if your feeling like having an aussie/English breakfast. Had a vegan breakfast which was ok. Tofu scramble was very plain. Wife had a banana crepe which she wasn’t to impressed with.

Pros: Quaint cafe

Cons: No air conditioning

Vegan comfort food

I tend to stay away from western food while I'm travelling, but after a heavy night I really needed some comfort food to help with the hangover.

Tried one of the burgers and it was exactly what I needed. Not too badly priced either considering it's located in the touristy area.

Staff Underpaid? Could crack a smile once in a while. Kitchen and toilet filthy.

We were looking forward to this place.. until the staff were incredibly rude and unresponsive.. they didn’t say hello, and continued to talk amongst themselves. When we ordered they gave us the feeling like it was annoying for them. Vegan options are enticing until you realise how dirty the place is. No thanks

Pros: Plenty of vegan options..

Cons: Food fairly boring - English Brek no good, Staff not friendly at all , Kitchen and toilet is filthy

Not bad

We were looking for some Vegan Western food and this menu was the perfect find. Both of us had the yellow lentil burger, it was not bad. Chip portion perhaps a little on the small side. I’d recommend going here if you’re searching for Vegan Western food in the city. Our meal did not blow us away, but there is plenty on the menu that might make someone else’s experience a little better.

Pros: Great vegan menu

Very disappointing

Was really disappointed with this place. The vegan English breakfast had no flavour. The veggie sausages were bland and a strange texture. Service wasn’t good. They weren’t friendly and after they took the orders just dropped food and drinks with out even acknowledging us.
I was really excited for this place but I wouldn’t go back. They do have an extensive vegan menu and maybe the Vietnamese dishes are good but for me the service ruins it.

Cheap & Cheerful

If you want a cheap, cheerful traditional greasy spoon full English type affair then this place is perfect for a low key hungover feed, the staff were very sweet & it was a welcome escape from the bedlam of Bui Vien, honestly wouldn’t make the pilgrimage from D7 again though. We had a veggie full English & a veggie roast. Full English was ok, roast was two meat free burgers from au lac, some over cooked veggies & gravy. No Yorkshire puds 😭

Pros: Very good value, Lovely staff , Reasonable selection of vegan food options

Cons: People smoking indoors, Place just felt really grubby & sticky, It’s just off bui vien

Thank you for the review. As you might know, I'm vegan too. Sorry about having no Yorkshire Puddings for the vegan Sunday Roast. It's the Holy Grail for me to get right. I've tried so many ways to get them to be perfect. One day I will succeed.
I'm just sorry my place did not live up to your expectations. I would love if you can come again and try the food I prepare, like lentil burgers or vegan cheese pizzas or my top seller: Vegan apple crumble.
Again thanks for the review and saying a nice service was experienced. And you're correct that my place is grubby. Cheers. Hope to meet you one day and then I can, personally, recommend some of our food.
Peace and love to our environment, other sentient beings, and our health.

One of my favorite places in Saigon

I discovered Bookworm's when I first moved to the city and it remains one of my all-time favorites. The owner has transitioned from vegetarian to vegan since I've met him, thus the vegan food selection is ever expanding. Always something new at Bookworm's. They do a great job filling in some of the comfort foods vegans don't really get to eat in Vietnam, like vegan ice cream, vegan pizza, vegan English breakfast, and vegan cottage pie. They even do vegan Christmas dinner every year. Really lovely place filled with books and board games. The owner is chill and always up for a good chat. Would highly recommend Bookworm's to vegans and vegetarians alike.

Great food and coffee

I have visited Bookworm's sever times during my visits to Ho Chi Minh City.

As I follow a vegan diet I am extremely well catered for. There is so much choice. I thoroughly enjoy the delicious home made burgers. I enjoyed sitting at the front just watching the world go by as I sipped my coffee.

I also called in just to have the amazing vegan fruit crumble and custard. Its the best I have had!

The owner Kieron is a really friendly guy. He's also very ethical and environmentally conscious which is a big thumbs up for me which is another reason I chose to return to eat there.

Thoroughly recommend.

Food was okay

On looking at the menu we were really excited to see lots of vegan junk food options. The food was okay but it could be better. I ordered the burger and it tasted okay and it was just served with fries.

The owner was really chatty and friendly. Offered some good advice about the area.

Also, this is fantastic place if you want to come and people watch as it’s located on a busy side street of buin vein (party area of HCMC)

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Great for people watching

Cons: Okay food

Cute spot

Went here at least four times while in HCMC. Loads of vegan options, I’d recommend the full English breakfast: it comes with tofu scramble, hash brown, 2 veggie sausages, veggie ham, tomato, mushrooms and toast. The chicken burger is also tasty. They also do vegan apple crumble with custard. They have vegan condensed milk too, so you don’t have to miss out on trying traditional Vietnamese style coffee!

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Board games to play

Cons: Limited seating, No vegan ice cream as advertised

Thanks for the lovely review. I'm addicted to my Vietnamese vegan iced white coffee (cafe sau da). Sorry about not having many vegan ice creams left. Only passion fruit, mixed berries and vanilla are left. I will get off my lazy vegan butt soon and make the rest soon (mint choc chip, vanilla with smashed Oreos, strawberry, coffee 'n' banana with choc chips, coconut and mango).
Happy vegan travels.
