Busy restaurant - book to ensure a table.
We didn’t receive one of the dishes we ordered so asked for it to be removed from the bill. Didn’t realise until after paying that it wasn’t removed.
Service charge is added to the bill. Ask to remove if you want to add your own tip - or not tip.
Pros: Food tastes good, Nice venue but small, busy, and loud
Cons: Check your bill so you’re not overcharged, Expensive for portion sizes

Genuinely the tastiest food around. So much choice and perfect portion sizes to try plenty of dishes but also get your moneys worth. Such a treat going here and also a really nice drink selection including great non alcoholic options. I’d recommend the napa cabbage and aubergine but absolutely everything on the menu is unreal 😍

A small yet vibrant Japanese inspired restaurant where you mark the menu with your order and the dishes arrive in the order of cooking, brought over by attentive and personable servers. Delicious food, creatively presented and generously portioned. A great spot for early supper, washed down with warm Saki and good intentions. We have been back a few times and now, in November 2024, it is still thoroughly pleasing customers. The majority of dishes are deep fried so it is good to counterbalance with… sake!

Every dish I've ever had here has been amazing, flavourful innovative dishes that are so fun to share. Chai creme caramel is the best vegan dessert I've ever eaten, and the pork spring rolls occupy my thoughts more often than they should!

I had the lunchtime set menu for £17. My daughter had the £14 ramen. The starter and main came almost at the same time. A corn on the cob halved and a slider for the main with a small bowl of rice. For me, 3 small tapas plates. Quite expensive for what you got. The ramen was fine.

I apologise if this was not made clear to you before you ordered but we do not follow a traditional 'starter' and 'main' system. We follow a more free flowing, small plate/tapas dining style in which the dishes come out as and when they are ready.

The Best Plant-Based Food - Edit
This is easily the best plant-based food available, anywhere. The taste, texture, and flavour is all superb... It is not so much cooking that goes into this but some inexplicable alchemy. That, and the setting is gorgeous, the staff friendly, and the drinks equally delicious.

So tasty, lovely flavours. Great to have a Japanese menu that's all vegan. My husband requires gluten free so struggled a little more as the hot food is all cooked on one grill, whether it's gluten free or not. What he did have though he thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend the crispy tofu and aubergine dishes!

I came here for my second date with my now girlfriend. At the time I was not vegan, but this place definitely helped with my change over to veganism. It showed me quite how spectacular and tasty vegan food could be and simply amazed me. We ate a feast, most of the items on the menu and every single one of them was beyond amazing. Taste and presentation was perfect and the prices are more than reasonable. The place is a calm and trendy looking restaurant too. Small, but cozy and welcoming.
Read moreSince our first visit, we have returned several times, making the 3 hour drive just for the sake of coming back and every time we never leave disappointed, or hungry. The only downside (which is unfair to say really) is the fact that the menu changes. I miss the miso soup 😭.

This place is absolutely next level, the menu is so exciting it’s difficult to choose but you can’t go wrong. Truly outstanding place that pushes the boundaries of peoples perception of what vegan food can be, it feels like no corners are cut, it’s pure excellence. Recommend highly and an absolute do not miss if you are only visiting Brighton for a couple of days. The cocktail menu and preparation are also really gorgeous. This is one of the best vegan places in the country hands down whilst remaining a laid back dining experience.

The best food I've had in ages. Everything was brilliant. The "sea bream" was especially good. I also had the "pork" spring rolls, the banh mi slider, the "chicken" and "lamb" skewers, the miso aubergine and the scorched rice.

We ate here last night for the first time. I'd heard nothing but good so had high expectations. We ordered 8 small plates (we're greedy) which were all amazing, some of the best vegan Asian food I've ever had! I went with my non vegan husband and he agreed. Stand out dishes were the pickles & kimchi (simple but so good), the Hanoi 'pork' spring rolls with pickled apple and the tempura 'sea bream' with mango and dill salad & togarashi mayo. We also had the special, which was salt n pepper Lions Mane mushrooms. Incredible flavours, every mouthful was a taste bomb, and scarily realistic vegan meat & fish. Also a good variety of veg based dishes if fake meat isn't your thing. The cocktails looked great too. Highly recommend.

Lots of different options, all really tasty. It was all really carefully considered and the flavours and textures perfectly balanced. Only downside was the atmosphere. The acoustics were really bad and the biggest table was in the middle of the room and much taller than all the other tables with made noise from the biggest group really travel. They were also in quite a hurry to get each table in and out. It was an expensive meal so it's a shame the atmosphere wasn't more relaxing.

Bonsai Plant Kitchen is a pretty trendy venue. The lighting and style is quite dark and they serve small plate East Asian cuisine. I'd say 4 dishes per person is a good amount of food.

My cocktail (a Japanese slipper) was okay. It tasted good, but didn't wow me like the food did.
