I wouldn't visit again - Edit
I was happy to find a place serving a hot, non-sweet breakfast in a small Scottish town on a late January morning. Hence one star. The other one is for staff being nice.
Read moreIf you're familiar with the idea of a full fried breakfast (English, Scottish etc) - it's a ton of fried stuff that will keep you full for hours and hours. That's what I needed.
It varies between places but what you could expect is some kind of fair vegan equivalent of sausages, bacon (or black pudding?), eggs, beans, mushrooms, hash brown and that sad tomato. Often more than that but that's the base line to compare things to.
What I got, for £8.50 (was that with a coffee? I can't remember) looked more like some kind of ration meal you would receive during the WW2 bombing of Britain.
Two sausage, beans from the tin, a barely edible tomato (I'm not going to pick on that, it was January after all, not a tomato season!) and two slices of toast. I don't think you could possible spend as much as £1 on these ingredients.
I went veggie in early 90s and I remember the idea of suffering meals where someone would just take meat off the plate and leave you with mostly potatoes.
That's what this felt like. Swap sausages (I appreciate that), take eggs off the plate, use beans since they're 18p per tin anyway. Fair play if it was £2.50, but not £8.50
You could do so much better than that.
If I end up in Dumfries on a cold January morning again, I will go somewhere else.
Pros: Staff were nice.
Cons: The fried breakfast was a joke.

Few vegan options - Edit
I visited Bob & Bert's in September 2022. At the time there were several vegan options on the menu. I had a vegan hot dog which came with chip-shop style vegan curry sauce and fries. It was nice. The strawberry (dairy-free) smoothie was good too.

Perfect breakfast - Edit
Several vegan options here. We had a good breakfast of vegan fry and coffees with oat milk.
Read moreAlthough the porridge is not listed as vegan , I asked if they were able to make it with oat milk to make it vegan & it was delicious!! Lots of topping too.
Really pleasant waiting staff and chef who were very willing to adapt which I was very grateful for
Pros: Several vegan options sweet & savoury, No extra charge for plant milk, Friendly staff
