I’ve never been here before so I decided to walk over and check it out. I knew I was going to be pigging out so I walked a little over 2 miles from the center of downtown out to this place.
Read moreThis is a house that has been converted to a restaurant. There’s really no indoor seating, but lots of seating outside on the patio and in the backyard.
On the night I was here, they only had one thing they were serving, which was their Wednesday special. I had Kung Pao barbecue. It was a very generous portion and very tasty. It was not what I was expecting, as I was hankering for traditional barbecue, but I did not leave disappointed.

Delicious vegan BBQ, it’s amazing to have such a delicious vegan restaurant like this right here in SLC. Not only was the food amazing, but the people who run the place seem extremely passionate and proud of their work, as they should be.

We tried four different proteins and three sides, and every one was amazing! The best jackfruit BBQ I’ve ever had—so incredible. Succulent tempeh burnt ends are outstanding. The Korean BBQ strips had spice that was complex and flavorful. The brisket was absolutely amazing, paired with one of their homemade fluffy rolls and the purple citrus slaw. The Cuban BBQ black beans and smoked poblano potato salad was a delicious dilly counterpoint. What an incredible meal. Meeting and interacting with Zeus, the resident cat, was a delightful bonus. Do not miss this place. It is open two days per week to give the owner the time to lovingly craft this incredible food. Worth a trip to Salt Lake City!!

It’s about a 45 minute drive for me to get to Blatch’s but it’s worth it and I keep coming back. Highly recommend going Fridays and getting the VBQ platter!

Read moreNot only is the grub phenomenal ( Honestly the best I've ever had and I've been a plant based chef in dozens of different restaurants, industrial kitchens and catering companies over the past 10 years.) but he also happens to be one of the most compassionate, genuine individuals I've ever had the joy of meeting.
If you're lucky enough to have had the pleasure of Chris welcoming you into his home/kitchen for a meal do him and the world a favor and write a review! Not that he NEEDS your help in that regard however, the food speaks for itself ;)
On top of all this, everything is 100% vegan, cruelty free and crafted with such delicate care you can taste it in every bite.
So far I've only had the pleasure of trying the Pretzel Monster with his V-brisket as the protein and I could honestly die happy if it were to be my breakfast, lunch and dinner for the remaining duration of my time on this planet.
If you are vegan anywhere in Utah and haven't tried one of Chris' masterpieces you are yet to live. (He has a huge selection of his own hot sauces made from scratch and a huge selection of his menu items are available in a to-go freezer right next to the counter)
Do yourself (and the animals) a favor and get in here ASAP, I'll bet anything you won't regret it.
Chris, his establishment and creations are absolutely legendary and a gem of Utah's vegan scene. Get this stuff in your gullet pronto!

Seriously the best, we love coming to this spot and trying all of the beautiful creations. Won best bbq in slc even amongst the carnivores! Worth the wait everytime. Hot sauces, rolls, featured items, amazing bbq. We love blatches!

So much flavour in everything. Run by really friendly and helpful guy. Blackbeans, slaw and jackfruit were my favourite. The wood fired rolls and cinnamon bun were incredible.

Finally listed as fully vegan on Happy Cow - Edit
This is a 5 star vegan place but it wasn’t listed as fully vegan until recently. Wednesdays are a set sandwich combo. Fridays is the entire bbq menu. You can buy prepackaged bbq stuff on Wednesday to heat at home. Yesterday was a Ruben sandwich that was incredible. Always appreciate the love Blatch puts into his food.

I loved the surprise of walking into the house and feeling I was transported into a commercial kitchen/restaurant. Everything was vegan. I asked Chris (or Blatch) if he served animal products, he responded that he only does for catering events and requires a minimum of the catering be 45% vegan. His strategy is to get more people to try plant based.
Read moreI didn’t see it listed on the website, but Chris offers a $35. meal for two. This includes two mains, sides of beans, cole slaw, potato salad and 4 rolls. Perfect for the two of us. We actually only ate half and happy to have enough left over for another meal. We selected the smoked jackfruit and seitan brisket. We were able to taste all four and make our selection. Chris also has a selection of hot sauces and we were able to spice up our bbq sauce to our preference.
Overall a great experience from the atmosphere, personable service and fabulous food!!! Priced right!

Best Vegan BBQ I've Had - Edit
Blatch's Backyard BBQ is great! It's usually hard to find vegan BBQ at all, let alone this good. My wife and I tried the jackfruit with raspberry and BBQ sauces, black beans, and wood fired rolls. It was all better than expected and the portion sizes were great for the price. The jackfruit was also really good as leftovers the next day! We can't wait to get it again.
