Decent - Edit
The pizza is ok, not great. Nice that they have homemade vegan cheese, but it’s also fairly mediocre. Fine if you’re in the area, not worth traveling for.

Ask for no garlic butter. - Edit
Pretty sold vegan pizza. Be sure to request no garlic butter, as theyll do a brush even if you order the vegan cheese.

Good vegan pizza - Edit
A pizza joint with house made vegan cheese. Can make your own pizza with the vegan cheese and tons of veggie toppings. Was super tasty after a day of hiking

Excellent homemade vegan cheese - Edit
We had the Veggie Head pizza with the homemade vegan cheese. It was fantastic! The staff was very conscientious about the toppings and took the initiative to check on the red sauce (which is vegan). In addition we got a build your own with just red sauce and vegan cheese. Both were excellent. I would highly recommend Black Rock Pizza. NOTE: Garlic butter is added to all pizzas. Be sure to ask that it not be added. The man taking my order over the phone told me about it so I would know to opt out.

Decent pizza - Edit
We went at night; it probably has nice views from the back patio during the day. The server was very friendly. The pizza was fine, but nothing we'd go out of our way for. I'd much rather go to Royal Thai not too far away.

Amazing Pizzas 🍕🍕🍕 - Edit
The house made vegan cheese was so good, far superior to most other places that put store bought Daiya or whatever other brand on. Veggie Head pizza was delicious!

Birthday/Vacation Dinner - Edit
My family and I were on vacation for my birthday and this is where we went on the actual day. The “Hawaii” margarita was delicious. We ordered a Greek with homemade vegan cheese. The other had pineapple and roasted red pepper with the same. The vegan cheese was pretty good. It’s not melted but better than the commercial cheeses that almost never melt well. The dough/crust was really good. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Great vibe - Edit
We went to this restaurant on the way to a Ho’okena beach park. You can eat vegan here if you want. They do a make your own pizza and make their own vegan cheese. There is also a great range on salads and like most place you can edit to your requirements. Our waiter was great and gave really goods vibes (we enjoyed his service a lot better than the service at the Manta restaurant and Mauna key resort which is ridiculously expensive).
Read moreThe pizza was great, service was great and the views are amazing. We would highly recommend you go here if on Big island. Would have been a 5 star if was fully vegan and we were able to.

Busy place with a couple of vegan options - Edit
Good wood fired pizzas.
Read moreService was a bit slow, we saw one of ours was ready for a long time hence the super dried eggplant in the photos. Pizzas were ok, for 2 choices or build your own its certainly not a 4 by any means. Its an option if you'r ein the area as there isn't much else around. We had been snorkelling down a t Two-Steps.
Place was busy, parking can be tight.

Fantastic for thick crust - Edit
As far as thick crust pizzas go, this is pretty amazing. My favorite in Kona. Their vegan cheese is excellent. I have not yet tried their vegan pasta, but that's for next time!

Brilliant pizza, sides, staff, view and lizards. - Edit
The pizza wax delicious, however, I suggest asking them to go easy on the tomato sauce as it was strong. You can ask for some extra to add as you wish. Toppings were great and amazing base.

Fair pizza - Edit
We did a pick-up order from Black Rock by walking in to order and then coming back to pick up. The person taking our order at the cash register made us feel a little unwelcome/impatient but navigated through their vegan options. Their crust is vegan. I opted for the build your own with the vegan cheese. The vegan cheese was really good! The pizza’s cook was a little soggy in some areas but perfect in others. The overall flavor itself was good but not great. My omnivore partner also commented their pizza was good but not standout. Maybe it was an off day for them based on other reviews here. I would definitely try Black Rock again and will update my review if it’s different.

Yummy pizza - Edit
We had the greek pizza and substituted the house made vegan cheese for the feta. Yumm. Would definitely recommend housemade cheese. Waitress said it was made from coconut which we would not have guessed. #Veganuary

Great build your own pizza - Edit
We were very happy with build-your-own vegan pizza! The house-made vegan cheese was especially good. The large pizza served two of us for two meals. We also really liked how many veggies we could add to it. The non-vegans in our group were also very happy with their pizza. The only disappointment was it advertises a “take and bake” option but they don’t currently offer that.

Delicious vegan pizza - Edit
This was such a great find. Delicious build-your-own vegan pizza - their regular pizza dough is house made and when you order it vegan, they simply don’t baste the crust in butter at the end of cooking the pizza. There is also a fantastic vegan/GF cauliflower crust, which is more of a thin crust. The basic red sauce with basil is vegan, as well as a couple other sauces (just ask), and they have a delicious house made vegan mozzarella cheese with basil— reminded us of real ricotta cheese. Lots of veggie toppings to choose from. Overall, 5 stars from both vegans and non-vegans!
