Mrs Fuentes

The proprietor was not very kind. The online personality is NOTHING like in person. She wasn't very personable, quite aloof.
The food wasn't good. The pictures posted online didn't match what I purchased. I spent 88.00, and the mushroom burger wasn't cooked all the way through. The oxtail mofongo was just ok ( mofongo was hard and dry)
The chi chi platter, the pico de gallo wasn't fresh.
The empanadas were tasty, not much filling in them.
I traveled to support but will not be going back EVER again. I was charged an extra 2.00 brought it to her attention, and she said she would refund the overcharge. Since then I have been blocked on ig ( she asked how the food was, I waited a week and responded) No refund, No response . Blocked

A pop-up worth searching for

Black Rican Vegan holds it down with its flavors at Smorgasburg, Prospect Park on Sundays. This small pop-up serves authentic, plant-based takes on traditional Puerto Rican and soul food dishes like mofongo and oxtail and rice (“moxtail” made from pea protein and jackfruit). BRV does jackfruit really well. The mofongo came with a side of jackfruit chicharron bites (yum!) that paired really well with the mashed-up fried plantains. I couldn’t get enough of the garlic gravy that brought it all together. BRV only operates as a pop-up right now but does catering and cooking classes. If you are at Smorgasburg, make a beeline for their stall. Must try the oyster mushroom burger sliders next time.

Mmmmm 🤤🤤🤤

The food is delicious. I think Lyana really puts a lot of effort in to coming up with the prefect recipe. I first tried them at the vegan street fair in LA. I’m so glad they’re now at smorgasburg in bk. I’ve tried the mofongo with chicharrón, chopped cheese no egg roll, and the guava empanadas. Yummm

The Best

The jackfruit fried fake meat is out of this world… I’ve had like three items off the menu at Smorgasburg in Prospect Park but they pop up all over the city and in Jersey. It’s all good, the prices are high but it’s worth every penny.

Delicious new choice

We enjoyed this (limited menu) vendor at Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The "Soul Plate" contained fried oyster mushrooms and two "sides". Between us we had the mac and cheese, collards, and yam sides.
Everything was wonderful except the price: $20. for a meal in a cardboard box eaten with plastic utensils (sitting on the curb because Smorgasburg was so crowded) is a lot. But it was a luxury.

Pros: Delicious food

Cons: Pricey

Extraordinary flavor

This pick up/catering/pop up crew is outrageously delicious. Flavors are unashamedly bold and powerful, everything they make is incredible. BRV is the absolute best at veganized comfort food. Make sure to order early and order often. I will drop anything I’m doing — and will pay basically any amount — when they say they’re taking orders and will take one of everything they’ve got available.

Pros: Best flavors , One of the few Bronx-based vegan places

Cons: Be prepared to wait in a long line at pop ups
