Serves meat, vegan options available. Has tofu, tempeh, and custom burritos with toppings like spinach, mushroom, black beans, and rice. Butter used in some dishes (rice) - vegans to ask. Open Mon-Sun 12:00pm-8:00pm.
You can build your own burrito bowl or burrito, with lots of different toppings to choose from (including roasted sweet potatoes, grilled pineapple, tofu, a plethora of veggies). I double-checked and their rice isn’t cooked with butter. Get the mango salsa! :)
It can be difficult to eat vegan here because all the rice is made with butter. You will be paying full price for just a tortilla and beans, with any additions costing extra. Students love this place.
I stumbled into this burrito place while exploring Boone and thought, hey you can't go wrong with a burrito place, right? Well, turns out you can. As soon as I walked, in the employees were talking about a vegetarian that they accidentally served bacon to. That should have been my sign to leave, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and stayed. Reading over the menu, I noticed it was not at all vegan friendly, and decided to choose the "build your own" burrito option. Each topping was nearly an extra dollar, so my burrito was going to be quite plain, unlike the usual abundance of veggies I prefer to get. I requested them to remove the automatic cheese and sour cream that comes on the "build your own", and then asked for guac. They told me the guac had sour cream in it (??) so I refused. However, they still served me a mayonnaise-soaked side of coleslaw that I did not ask for, and worst of all, they did not even tell me that the rice was cooked in butter! This place does not care about vegans in the slightest, and the restaurant feels quite gross and insanitary as well. Boone has many amazing restaurants and burrito places- there is no need to visit this one.
Only recently did I find out that their rice wasn't vegan, which is really a shame since the rice is a major part of their dishes. I guess they don't care about vegans and people with milk allergies. It's great if you're a lacto vegetarian but not for vegans. And the food is cheap too. Sigh...
I was a big fan of Black Cat because it offers vegan and vegetarian food, with many options. Until on three [I kept trying!] consecutive visits I became sick after each one. I haven't been back in a couple years and hopefully they are taking better care with their food preparation. I don't know.

I completely agree. They've been using butter to cook the rice since at least 2008. We only ate there once and it was terrible. Vegans beware.

All rice has butter - Edit
Hey folks, don't be misled. The rice has butter in it, which makes it kinda hard to eat here.
