Great vegan options, friendly staff!

Overall, Black Bear Cafe is a warm, homey feeling restaurant with great breakfast, lunch, and dinner options and super friendly staff. Worth a visit if you're in Queen's or at the Ulster Museum!

We found Black Bear Cafe on a Foursquare while looking for vegan options in Belfast and, since it was so close to us, decided to try it out. They serve breakfast and lunch dishes during the day and every Friday host a supper club which consists of a three course dinner and takes reservations. The staff has always been very nice and accommodating with any requests. The physical space is not large but the cafe has a nice feel to it and the space makes it a bit more cozy.

We stopped by for lunch one day and ordered the two mainstay vegan options on the menu: a peanut butter, butternut squash, and pickled cabbage sandwich, and a roasted red pepper, spinach and hummus sandwich. Both, despite one nontraditional combination, are very tasty and good portions so you won't be hungry afterwards.

Another time, we came by for supper club which is 20 pounds per person for a three course menu of a starter, main and dessert, with two menus, one vegan and one non-vegan. It also came with a complimentary cocktail on the night we visited. We ordered the vegan option and got to try both the melon, blueberry, and lettuce salad with basil vinaigrette as well as a zucchini and lemon soup, both of which were unique and fantastic starters. Then the main was garlic lentils with roasted vegetables and crispy kale. The dessert was a chocolate cake slice with a small fruit salad on the side. We cleaned our plates completely; it was such a delicious and fresh meal!!

Definitely check out Black Bear Cafe - especially the supper club if you're around on a Friday night!

Pros: Delicious food, Friendly staff, Good portions
