They've been removing vegan options

Big Grove used to have tons of vegan options that were already vegan and marked that way on the menu. They used to be my go-to in town for an evening out. But, they have been getting rid of vegan options with each menu change.

For example, it used to be easy to get a good burger without much trouble, but now you have to ask them to change the bun in addition to the patty, and leave off the cheese and special sauce. There used to be vegan cheese and sauce options but those have been discontinued, so you just get a boring plain burger with a little veg on it now. For the handful of other dishes, they require modifications to make them vegan, or the dish is uninspired and not very good.

I really hope they will improve their menu and offer more vegan dishes like they used to - or at least make sure the modifications are up to par. I will say that they always have great beer options, and the fries are consistently delicious. And if you're bringing non-vegan family somewhere and need an option, there are indeed some options here. It's an impressive and fun venue.

Pros: Fries and beer are very good, Fun place to take friends , Allow dogs on the patio

Cons: Fewer and fewer vegan options, Vegan mods not always equivalent to originals, Nothing on the menu I would travel for

Great Food and Drinks

Large restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Several vegan options labeled on the menu. I had the Poke Bowl and substituted the tuna with tofu. It was super tasty. I don’t drink but I hear their beer is great. I had a nice time and enjoyed the food.

Pros: Several (labeled) vegan options, Nice atmosphere, Delicious food and drinks

Cons: Not completely vegan

Excellent Patio Experience!

Great place to get vegan lunches with a fun outdoor atmosphere. I had the Vegan Bahn Mi and my son got the Impossible Burger. The waiter knew we needed to switch buns for the burger and that the sauce on it wasn't vegan. We had a great outdoor table! Great place to hang with the family! They even allow dogs!

Pros: Waiter was vegan knowledgeable!, Food was delicious!, Beer!

It's nice they have so many vegan options. But I wish they were better.

Big Grove used to be my easiest restaurant option for taking out-of-towners. Their menu appeals to a variety of palates, and they have a lot of vegan options.

They still have a lot of vegan options, but it seems like their heart isn't really in those dishes.

I ordered the poke bowl prepared vegan, and the tofu in it was literally pulled out of the package cold, cut into squares, and put onto white rice. Come on. The great part of tofu is that it can be a sponge picking up flavors. Otherwise, it's notoriously bland. Marinate it in something. Do something to it.

Another time I ordered the Impossible burger, and it was still red, mushy, and cool inside. I ended up eating around the raw part. Again, the Impossible burger is delicious. But it needs to be cooked all the way and seasoned.

My husband ordered the mapo tofu, and they removed the pork that usually comes in the dish. But didn't add anything else to fill it out (like some broccoli, maybe?)

They have one vegan option for cauliflower wings, but it could really use breading and a vegan dipping sauce.

Anyway, I like that they're considering vegans, but it would be nice if they'd do more to keep us coming.

Great outdoor spot

I loved this open seating concept outside. My server had to ask the chef to make sure the curry was vegan when I went and oh my, was it delicious. Will definitely come back when I return to Iowa.

Pros: Little cubes of tofu, Clearly marked with toothpick

Pretty good! Lots of veg food

A lot of clearly marked vegan and vegetarian items on the menu, and it seems the me u has grown since this Happy Cow listing started. Cauliflower wings, bahn mi, bi bim bap, curry, Impossible burgers, salad, and more. We liked everything we got except the cauliflower wings, which were too big and the sauce too runny.

Good vegan options

This place is huge! They have lots of marked vegan options on the menu, and you order at the counter then they give you a buzzer. The tacos were fresh and flavorful. We sat outside til the sun went down, then moved inside and it was easy finding a spot even on a busy Saturday night, though the music was pretty loud. I would go back here to try more.

Pros: Lots of marked vegan options , Reasonable prices, Lots of seating

Cons: Loud music

Great options!

I visited without having a chance to look at their menu first, and I was pleasantly surprised at the options available! I tried the fried cauliflower with 1/2 Korean BBQ and 1/2 Sesame Ginger. Both sauces were great, and the serving size was huge. For the main course I tried the sweet potato/black bean tacos which were also good. I’ve also heard (from non-vegans) that the Tofu Banh Mi is great but I haven’t had a chance to try yet 😄
