Casual, innovative & delicious - Edit
I certainly didn't expect to find a place like Bean Vegan on my business trip to Charlotte, but I was really glad I did, and jealous there's no place like it at home. The menu is extensive with lots of healthy Southern style dishes along with modern Northern classics and several burgers. I went with a non-vegan who loved her Tempeh Ruben and admitted she couldn't tell the difference, while I indulged in the Red Bean and Rice bowl with added BBQ soy curls, steamed kale and tasty sauce. The fried pickles we ordered as an appetizer could have been a casual meal on it's own.
Read moreAND they sell a tasty variety of vegan foods and mixes you can take home and make yourself.
I enjoyed it so much that couldn't resist buying one of their t-shirts 'cause like it says on the back of the shirt, "It's Good, Y'all."
Pros: Tasty, Great variety, Friendly staff, good down home atmosphere
Cons: It's not located where I live, Scrambled Tofu brunch only available Sat and Sun?

Enjoyed my time here - Edit
Had the buffalo cauliflower, jalapeno burger and a kitty cat pie. Absolutely delicious. Not the place to go for healthy vegan food, but it is good. They will definitely have a repeat from this Vegan truck driver.

Very Relaxed Environment - Edit
We’ve now ate here nearly 10 times and have brought in a group of 7 non vegans who equally loved their food. Personally don’t like the Mac & Cheese at all, but everything else that we’ve tried is good. If you go for the Tofu Fingers, teriyaki sauce is by far the best. My fiancé loves the Jalapeño burger (no cheese) and my mom is all about the fishless filet sandwich with onion rings. EVERYONE loves the pimento cheese, cowboy cookies, and chocolate cake. Definitely not the healthiest vegan restaurant, but great comfort food. If you are in a hurry, you better call it in. It sometimes seems like the call ins are more important as they are in no rush when dining in. Which isn’t a problem now that we allow extra time and plan in advance. Would probably have rated them 5 stars if the restaurant weren’t so outdated, service was a bit quicker, and the staff was a little more upbeat. Definitely try it out and don’t judge it from the outside.

Cons: Slow service, Outdated

Some good, some average - Edit
The fried pickles were delicious and our server was nice, unlike some other reviews on here. As many have said, the food was extremely greasy, average tasting. Not my favorite vegan restaurant I’ve been to. They had milkshakes and stuff that I would’ve loved to try if I had room for dessert.

Worst service and food is mediocre at best. - Edit
I was so excited to eat here but that quickly fell apart due to the glaring lack of basic customer service skills by the staff.
Read moreThe restaurant itself is quite dingy and grimy. It looks as if it could use a good cleaning, which isn't what you want to see when you walk into a place to eat.
My order was prepared incorrectly and they took it back to remake. The rest of my table ate their meals while I waited. I didn't get mine until everyone was done. Which wasn't a big deal, but when it came out it was not what I had ordered at all. The waitress didn't even apologize or act as if she cared. She snatched it off the table and stomped off. The entire table was speechless. I couldn't believe I was treated this way.
We got our check and left after canceling my order entirely.
The rest of our party said their food was just ok. It is highly processed vegan junk food over salted and covered in processed cheese or greasy and fried.
I would NEVER go back here after being treated this way especially for mediocre over processed salty food.
Cons: Vegan junk food, Horrible service , Dirty and dingy

I agree on service and food quality. The women working there are totally disrespectful and simply unprofessional. However, they totally inspired me to open a food truck because if people love their food, my food will rock their world. Feel bad for the vegan residents of Charlotte. Not too much to choose from but I hope they don’t waste their money on this place. We did have a chance to eat at Fern, I do recommend. And Deli St. has many vegan options as well.

Great restaurant! - Edit
I really liked this place! The service was fast and very friendly. My vegan kid commented on how KID FRIENDLY they are! Coloring page with a kids menu-we’ve travelled a lot and have never come across a kids menu at a vegan joint before. Plus they hang the colored pictures on the wall to display. Super fun for my kid. Food was fantastic as well-and I tried fried pickles for the first time ever. I highly recommend Bean.

Ordered the Cowboy Burger with sides of mac&cheese, red beans and rice, and tator tot casserole. I was not a fan of the mac&cheese but everything else was delicious. Ordered online and everything was ready to go when I arrived. Too bad that I don't live here!

Amazing! - Edit
This is one of my favorite places to go to when I want to pig out on some burgers and fries. They also have deserts like cheese cake or pie😍 it’s about the same price range as any decent burger place plus the atmosphere is very friendly. They also have a store inside the restaurant so you can pick up some goodies if you want to.

Awful - Edit
Truly one of the grossest meals I have ever eaten. Completely processed and didn’t taste like anything real! Ordered the fried pickles, Reuben sandwich with grilled zucchini. The zucchini was at least tasty. My daughters who will eat just about anything hated their Mac and cheese and tater tot casserole. Do yourself a favor, save yourself some money and go to a restaurant where food actually tastes real.

I definitely make better vegan gravy at home. Biggest downside is they pour lukewarm gravy over a cold biscuit. Not a choice I’ll repeat.

delicious, friendly, and very popular restaurant - Edit
I told the server that I wanted something fresh and light because their menu has a lot of deep fried items. She recommended the crabbie salad and I enjoyed it a lot. My husband, the omnivore, enjoyed his spicy pulled bbq bean bowl; he was very impressed. Then we shared a piece of raspberry zinger cake which was also good!

Great dive place! - Edit
I credit Bean with keeping me vegan for the last few years. Every now and again I feel a little down about not participating in all the food happenings with friends but Bean always pulls me back. It’s basically vegan junk food. Very little here would I qualify as healthy but it’s all pretty delicious and extremely satisfying. The people are great but the wait can be long. There’s a reason. It’s good food.

Vegan Southern Mama’s kitchen - Edit
I absolutely devoured the side of mashed potatoes and gravy. I usually try to balance out my unhealthy side by ordering steamed kale for my second side dish. For the main course I usually get a salad or the tacos. I’ve visited Bean dozens of times and have done take out as well. I think some of the reviews are a bit too critical, it’s like going to a romcom movie but you were expecting it to be a thriller. Set your expectations... this vegan food isn’t super health conscious, but it is done well. I do wish they had gluten free burger options. Overall you always feel welcome and the service is quick. They have free bumper stickers and they’ve now opened a vegan store at the back.
