Great vegan breakfast options - Edit
We stopped in after finding the cafe on happy cow and were impressed! I got an everything bagel with vegan cream cheese (I’m 99% sure the use Miyokos), tomato, red onion, & sprouts and it was delicious. My boyfriend got the Mango Tango smoothie and enjoyed it as well. We also got the blueberry scone which was clearly labeled along with other vegan, regular vegetarian, and gluten free options. Great selection for vegan breakfast and we’re planning on going back for their banana whip and maybe to grab a few baked goods for the road!

Veg/sveg/vgt is so confusing. I also keep forgetting they have food - Edit
Their abbreviations aren’t intuitive if you haven’t looked at the menu for the key. (And why does “veg” mean beegan? Surely they can have “veg” mean vegan and “beeg” mean beegan. I thought I was missing something important and initially skipped over the items that were labeled “sveg” but to them, that means vegan, and those are the items that would apply to me. *facepalm*)
Read moreAnyway, I love the banana whips, I get one each time I come.
This time I got both the blueberry duffin and the muffin. The duffin was dry and unpleasant, but the muffin was moist and tender. What a huge difference being wrapped in plastic can do.
The brownie is cakelike but still pleasant. (if you’re expecting a dense brownie, you may be disappointed, but if you go in expecting chocolate cake, you will likely enjoy it)
The cinnamon bun was tough which made me think maybe it was wheat based, but my husband assured me it was GF. (Needless to say, he was not a fan. His revulsion was a little amusing.) I enjoyed it though. I don’t encounter that texture much these days. It was so close to being flaky.
Pros: Gluten free vegan baked goods, Banana whip!
Cons: Non-intuitive dietary abbreviations., Dry duffins. (Maybe because they were unwrapped)

So many options!! - Edit
They have a great menu with so many clearly labeled options. Everything vegan and vegetarian are labeled and easy to determine. I had the vegan BBQ pork sandwich (a special) and the chocolate covered strawberry scone and both were amazing. It was the perfect treat for the boardwalk. I will definitely be back this summer.

Vegan options - Edit
I appreciate that they have vegan options and the menu is clearly labeled. We visited while it was pouring rain outside so we weren't able to sit in the outdoor seating area. The inside is very small. There is only one little area with maybe 3 tables so plan your visit accordingly. I had the vegan whole grain pancakes which were pretty tasty and came with either a side of fruit or potatoes.

I wanted to love it - Edit
I hate to post a negative review for a place that seems to be making significant efforts to cater to vegans (vegan marked on menus, multiple options for each type of service -Breakfast, lunch, dinner). But it was just bad in so many ways.
Read moreMy family was past due for lunch and looking to get out of the heat for a bit. We were excited to see that in addition to lots of outdoor tables, there was some indoor air conditioned seating. I asked if they were still serving breakfast items or lunch only -they checked and breakfast was still being served. We were told to have a seat and they'd come to us. We noticed at least 5 workers behind the counter, not seeming busy (chatting together).
We sat (with two small kids) and waited. The server for the only other table inside came to them 3 or more times as they were out of some things and she didn't know the answers to their question- didn't say a word to us any of those times. We wound up getting up and grabbing a menu from the front ourselves, but unfortunately it was just the smoothie menu, so the table next to us (only other people inside) gave us their menus.
After a few more visits to the other table without acknowledging us, we went to the front to see if we could order. They were not serving breakfast anymore and didn't have French fries (though they were on the menu). The table next to us overheard about the fries and asked what was going to come with their chicken tender "platter" if there were no fries -she didn't know and had to go ask. Though I don't think they got an answer.
My acai bowl came out before the rest of the food. was watery -thinner than most smoothies. My 8yo son's Mac and cheese had no flavor. Luckily the baby will eat anything pasta, so she ate it. My husband's beyond burger was raw in the middle and came with no side. We ate as much of it as we could and then went to get french fries to tide us over until our next meal.
The table next to us had their food brought out and was not happy. The gluten free wrap was open and had very little filling. Their chicken tender "platter" came with just the tenders. She took the inedible wrap off and was attempting to eat the little bit of filling because they were very hungry. The mom went to ask the manager about the wrap. The manager came immediately back with an attitude and didn't try to accommodate them or make things better.
They have like 4-5 pages of menu items plus a whole case of baked goods. Perhaps they'd do better with a smaller men
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Conveniently located on boardwalk
Cons: Food was barely/not edible, Service was non existent, Manager wasn't kind

Lots of vegan options - Edit
Menu was clearly marked with vegan and vegetarian options. Also lots of Gluten-free items. We ordered a variety of food and I think our favorite was the vegan Mac and cheese although for $8 it was a smaller portion. They also offer lots of vegan and GF cupcakes and other baked goods, fresh juice, smoothies, and banana whips. We had the GF vegan vanilla cupcake and enjoyed it.

Awesome For Breakfast and Whip - Edit
My family and I look forward to eating here for breakfast on every trip. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My favorite is the Açaí smoothie bowl. It is topped with toasted almonds, blueberries, and Chia seeds. They have a vegetarian friendly kids menu. It’s also a great choice for groups with vegetarians, and vegans. There is a separate banana whip and smoothie menu where everyone can find something delicious. The banana whip is a great ice cream substitute. It’s especially delicious when mixed with raspberry. Unfortunately, after coming here on a regular basis for years I recommend skipping lunch and dinner options. I have tried many of the dinner options because I want to like them so badly. Unfortunately many of the dinners are loaded with onions, even the vegan Mac n cheese. I have brought family here for dinner and every time we leave disappointed as the dinner food is just edible, not good.

Wide variety of tasty vegan food - Edit
I was very pleasantly surprised by how many different vegan foods are available at this restaurant. I unfortunately didn't review this when I was actually in OCNJ (not sure how I forgot!), so I don't remember the details. But I do remember yummy vegan waffles and pancakes, a surprisingly delicious broccoli soup, the namesake banana ice cream (or "nice cream") with plenty of vegan mix-ins--even their chocolate chips are vegan!--and various vegan baked goods. I went here several times during my two-week stay down the shore, and I look forward to coming again next time I am in town.

An Oasis on the Boardwalk - Edit
I met the owner through a friend and she was super helpful on what is vegan. Some of the baked goods distinguish between vegan with/without honey (strict vegan vs not strict). The gazpacho soup was awesome and I enjoyed a Beyond Sausage and cheese. I also indulged in a PB cup smoothie that was yummy. Who would think you could get some good vegan food on the boardwalk!!

VEGAN PLACE ON THE BOARDWALK!! - Edit
With such little options on the island and the surrounding shore towns, this place is vegan heaven!!!
Read moreOf course the banana whip is incredible. It’s been around since the 80s and is the crowd favorite.
Flavors in Mango, peach, strawberry, raspberry, pineapple, blueberry. (There’s always banana)
No dairy no added sugar, JUST FRUIT perfect soft serve alternative.
All fruit fudge sauce, non dairy chocolate chips, peanut butter, fresh fruit, the list for toppings goes on.
Over the past few years tons of new vegan options have been added to the menu. The vegan chocolate pancakes are delicious and so is the vegurito with house-made vegan cheddar cheese.
The jackfruit pulled pork bowl is to die for if you enjoy sweet and savory.
New vegan items fluctuate on special, like vegan tacos, beyond burger, and chicken parm grinder.
Also get the cinnamon roll, you won’t be disappointed!!!
Pros: Vegan, plant-based , Healthy, Friendly staff

Get banana whip - Edit
Stopped in for dinner and was impressed with all the vegan options on the menu and bakery. They have tons of smoothies/juices/pastries so it would likely be a great breakfast spot. Menu is clearly labeled with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. Note VEG is not vegan (it has honey), SVEG is actually vegan. I got the pasta primavera, it was fine not particularly mind blowing, and it was generous to call the sauce cheese sauce. Non veg boyfriend had a meal with seafood and his was also just fine. It was nice having so many vegan options on the menu, but the food was only okay. Everything was served in plastic which I didn’t love. The star here is the banana whip, think smoothest nice cream you have ever had. They put the frozen bananas through a juicer instead of blending. They have tons of vegan toppings including: chocolate chips, Pb sauce, an all fruit fudge, as well as nuts, seeds, pretzels, etc. I got my banana whip on top of a brownie. Next time I may come in just for dessert.

Great spot on the boardwalk - Edit
First time here was great for me! I ordered the jackfruit rice bowl special which was amazing. The coconut joy whip was awesome too. My brother and dad liked their meals but we’re not super impressed. The PB cup smoothie was a hit though! The baked goods looked fresh too. Overall, lots of great veg options and the staff is very helpful. Definitely will be back to try more.

My go-to - Edit
This is my go-to place for vegan food in OC. Very affordable considering it’s in Ocean City. Sometimes their baked goods can be dry but it’s only happened once or twice to me out of many times so it’s rare. The vegan pulled porked sandwich with bbq jackfruit is delicious and the all fruit fudge sauce on a banana whip is so good. Their menu has the vegan options marked and the staff is very knowledgeable as well.

Great for vegans visiting - Edit
Always have loved the whips, they're delicious! My fave has peanut butter, fudge (all fruit!), and pretzels. My friend and I ended up visiting Bashful Banana for breakfast, dinner and dessert throughout our trip. They offer lots of vegan options from waffles and muffins to burgers and paella. There's also an extensive juice and smoothie menu. We both agreed that the food and baked goods weren't particularly mind blowing, but just having a place with so many vegan options is amazing! I'm sure we'll be returning on our next trip to OC, NJ.

Banana Whip and More Banana Whip - Edit
I've been to Bashful Banana many times and always get the banana whip. At first I didn't even realize they serve other things because the whip completely steals the show! Dress it up, take it out (on the boardwalk), and lick it in public. Everyone will want some of your banana whip!

Fantastic! - Edit
I am thrilled to have found the Bashful Banana - I saw it on our last night here last year, and vowed to get there this year. Since then, I found out I need to eat a gluten-free diet, so I'm even happier to have Bashful Banana as a choice here amongst all the junk food on the boardwalk. The banana whips are absolutely delicious and offer so many variations - fruits mixed in, toppings added, etc. It really tastes like ice cream and helps me not feel deprived when everyone else is eating ice cream! I ate an excellent balsamic chicken wrap (brown rice wrap as a GF option) for lunch yesterday, and fantastic Spanish Paella for dinner earlier in the week. Thank you, Bashful Banana, for providing good and healthy options at the beach!

Worth the wait - Edit
We were stoked to find the Bashful Banana now open after we've been in OC for a few days now. The banana split whip (vegan without the whip cream) is a treat that reminds me of how a vegan diet is soooo not about deprivation! Mmmmm. We also had some yummy and healthy veg soup and I had to try a chocolate baked brownie (and stop myself from ordering any more vegan baked goods...so we will have to go back tomorrow!). I think they should really market the healthfulness of a banana whip compared to a fatty (not to mention cruelty laden) cow milk icecream!

Banana whip is magical! - Edit
I had an excellent experience at Bashful Banana yesterday. Their veggie burgers are home-made and vegan, which is really cool. Not many restaurants make their own veggie burgers, or vegan ones at that. It was interesting, filled with lots of brown rice and it was nice and crispy on the outside. I prefer something a little more moist and bean or vegetable-based, but it was still good! I had a banana whip for dessert and that was excellent. Who knew bananas could create such a delightful, creamy dessert? I loved that they sold fresh vegan muffins and brownies...that is absolutely amazing. I wish my family vacationed in Ocean City!
