Really delicious food, wonderful owner who will talk you through everything and such great food. You’ll want to come back to try it all. Not downside portions are a little small and rice is small too but otherwise delicious

Really good and well thought out vegan food - Edit
Lots of traditionally vegan foods as well as good choices to substitute meat for mushrooms on non vegan dishes.
Read moreYou probably won't be happy when you see the portion sizes but you'll no doubt be thrilled with the taste.
I highly recommend going for something you've never had because the owner tells you how it is meant to be eaten.

A MUST in Chiang Rai (5*) - Edit
The most delicious food I’ve had in Northern Thailand. The owner is so talented and welcoming. She explained which dishes are vegan at the start. Must try the Hung Lay Curry and the number 12 salad.

Beautiful food - Edit
Very small and cozy little place. The lady who helped us, possibly the owner, pointed out all the things that could be made vegan, and what was popular. She also pointed out that specific dishes are spicy because Chili is a main component. It says (sp) next to all dishes that are unable to be made non-spicy.

This place is definitely a must try while in Chiang Rai

The best food I’ve had in my life - Edit
This tiny restaurant is a hidden gem! The owner describes every dish in perfect English. The food is so delicious and every dish has a unique flavor from northern Thailand! I ate here everyday they were open on my trip! Bomb

Thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor - Edit
The owner thoroughly explained the menu and showed us every item that is vegan. The dish was plated beautifully. A lot of thought goes into these recipes. We got the hung Kay curry and the Burmese crispy tofu salad. Omg. It was so flavorful. The salad is a must try. One of my favorite dishes I’ve tried. We weren’t 100% full after sharing these two entrees because the portion is very small, but I could see it being a reasonable portion if you aren’t too hungry or if you get 3 entrees for 2 people.

Some of the best food I’ve had EVER - Edit
I wish I could give this place 10 stars. It’s a small restaurant where the friendly owner who speaks great English comes up to explain the menu and immediately asks about dietary restrictions. She listed off the vegan options what can be made vegan and there are plenty to chose from. I got the Burmese chickpea tofu salad and it was not only the best thing I’ve tried in my month in Thailand but one of the most flavorful and unique things I’ve tried ever!! I ordered a second one to go on the spot and so did my meat-eating partner. I got a traditional curry too which was also delicious, as well as homemade bergamot soda. Everything was delicious and the owner was so kind and attentive!! Absolutely check this place out.

Great food - Edit
Took two tries to get a seat here; the second time we came for an early dinner and didn’t have to wait too long. The owner was able to recommend dishes that were vegan/could be veganised and we ended up choosing more local ones: a curry and chapati dish, and a mushroom dish that you build yourself with lettuce as a wrap which was fun. Service was fairly quick.

Disappointed - Edit
I really don’t understand why when I ask for no spicy options they make it 2 times spicier 🙃
Read moreAll the spice just kills the taste of food and I’m very disappointed that even though the owner speaks perfect English I still get hella spicy dishes. Keep in mind that the place is very small and in the evening there are no free seats #Veganuary

Delicious menu! - Edit
The owner is super friendly and very clear on what vegan means. She’s got a few dishes she specifically recommends vegan travellers try, but there’s quite a lot of choice. The aubergine was honestly one of the best dishes I tried in Thailand.

The best thing is, and no other place ever I've across that does it, offers small plates so you can try more dishes!
We ended up having 3 small plates and will be back to have more dishes, and have normal portions.
Coconut milk available.
*opening times may vary, as we walked past later, around 7pm and the place was shut with a sign 'sorry we sold out food, see you tomorrow at 11am'
Pros: Vegan options , Vegan - coconut milk , Small portions of food to try

Best vegan food in Chiang Rai - Edit
Lovely venue and lovely staff who explain the menu in depth and are fully aware of what vegan means. The hung lay curry was quite sweet and full of pineapple. The vegetables with peanut sauce was also fairly sweet. The pad Thai was excellent (no need for extra peanut sauce) and the laphet thoke salad was a standout. Every meal was served with fruit. Love the option of smaller portion sizes so you can try multiple meals.

Northern Thai cuisine veganized - Edit
The menu at the front door seems overwhelming but once inside the owner will explain everything.
Read moreThe owner is very helpful to explain which dishes can be made vegan (V on the menu). All dishes are made from scratch with local products.
Barrab veganizes local Northern Thai dishes.. loving this.
We ordered:
32. Homemade peanut sauce with mixed vegetables
33. Herb and spices sauce with eggplant and Thai holy basil
& Som Tam & Thai tea (with coconut milk).
You can choose between 2 sizes, we took it as main dish.
The portions are good and the price is reasonable. Most important... the quality of the food is top-notch, very delicious.
If you like fine Thai cuisine... this is the place to be!

Hung Lay Curry is incredible - Edit
Northern Thai curry done excellently. The menu is easily tailored to vegan. I had the hung lay curry which had the perfect combination of spices, cooked through potato with pineapple, tofu and cashew nuts. The combination of pineapple and ginger is great with the right amount of spice to add heat without overpowering the dish.

Good but pricey - Edit
Tasty food but pretty pricey for the portions. Had the veg barab which was good but not very filling for 120 baht. Passion fruit juice was 70 baht for mostly ice and honey. The owner understands vegan diet and is eager to help and answer questions.

I got stir fried veg with a peanut sauce and also eggplant with a spicy herb sauce and tofu - it was 50 baht for a small dish and rice and I definitely didn’t need two, but it was absolutely delicious and the waitress understood veganism and was able to rattle through the menu all of the possible vegan options.
