We knew from the bat that Barkley was not a 100% vegan place, but as an enthousiast of high-end dining, I was more than happy to give this place a try.
Read moreIn the cosy but stylish interior we were treated with the best care. When stating that we were looking for a vegan experience, the owner showed us the vegan options on the map.
As is the case in proper European restaurants, the menu card was reduced to a minimum, with a focus on local and in season products. (low impact on nature). But 1/3 of the menu was suited for Vegans. The fact that they also serve non-vegan options should be considered as a logical choice, as this restaurant is a fine gem in Russia and therefore plays into a small niche of the local Russian restaurant visitors.
The food we ordered was exquisite. With an extra nomination for the heavenly patato's in form the starter.
Who ever claimed that vegan food should be simple, asian based or fast food, should go here and get a different perspective on the matter.
Like in many decent European restaurants the focus in Barkley is not quantity. It's about the quality of each ingredient, the experience of taste and sharing it with your partner or friends in a relaxing atmosphere.
This makes it more expensive than a traditional vegan burger bar, but than again. This is a completely different level and totally worth it.

Read moreI didn’t expect anything unusual, but I was wrong. Great restaurant with really great staff! The menu is relatively small but providing surprisingly good choice for vegans. I ordered potatoes with ice cream made of baked garlic for appetizer and courgette with tomatoes and paprika for the main. Both were delicious so I decided to opt for raspberry and beetroot dessert which was really awesome. I had rarely found such tasty vegan meals elsewhere earlier! The wine list offers a good range of Russian wines. I had two glasses of Russian sauvignon blanc which I found very good. The service was super friendly, the staff speaks English very well even comparing to France or other non-English speaking countries in Europe. By the way the location is easy to find, the place is in the centre of the city. I would give 5 stars to this restaurant! Definitely can recommend for a perfect dinner!

Exquisite food - one of the best in town. - Edit
The dinner was fantastic. Each of the dishes we ordered was a perfect combination of textures and flavors. The menu is rather small and seasonally adjusted. The desserts - one of the best we tried (beetroot cake delicious). The prices are very reasonable. Fully recommend this place. The cookery is awesome - we got the opportunity to talk to the chef, a talented young guy!

Great experience - Edit
I highly recommend a visit to Barclay restaurant. It's awesome! The vegan food is simply amazing, the prices are not bad at all. The Russian wines are great, who knew! The staff is very kind and attentive. Hands down the best experience in Saint Petersburg.

Excellent selection of lovely vegan and non vegan meals made from local ingredients. Restaurant has just 10 tables. They have lovely selection of wines from South of Russia.
