Beware the “vegetarian” menu

You can ask for a “vegetarian/vegan” menu. Upon asking what dishes were vegan we found out all the rice dishes (the paella and risotto) are made with chicken stock... this was confirmed by the kitchen. Basically it’s a menu full of items where they just took the chicken or fish off the top of the dish. Not my kind of atmosphere either. Upside, the guac is excellent and the mushroom polenta was decent.

Pros: Really good guac

Cons: Chicken stock

Thank you for pointing out the rice contains chicken stock. I was aware of this because of your review and confirmed 03/31/22 when I made the mistake of going there that in fact it does, regardless they list it on the "vegetarian" menu. Agree it's a pretty horrible atmosphere too, cramming people in like sardines to make more $. Don't get me started on the decor...

They try

It's great that this establishment has created a vegetarian and vegan friendly menu.
Unfortunately, they may not fully understand what these mean. For example, on the veg menu a few of the dishes come with rice. That rice is cooked with chicken broth and they consider that to be vegetarian. Tell them that you are vegan and they swap said rice with one cooked in coconut milk.😒
Staff were wonderful.
The vegan options were lovely to look at and less so to eat. Flavor was flat and uninspiring.
Only one of the options has plant based protein, which is chickpeas.

Pros: There are plant based options

Cons: Chicken broth is considered vegetarian , Bland

BEWARE

separate vegetarian menu, but the wild mushrooms are apparently made with chicken stock. there ARE vegan options but you must make modifications to make it vegan. vegetarian paella can be made vegan with coconut rice instead of saffron rice. saffron rice is made with chicken stock apparently as well so shouldn't even be on a veg menu 😬

Why even bother?

Went here for my birthday dinner after living next to this restaurant for over a year. In the summer they play obnoxiously loud music which was why I was initially turned off, but I decided to give it a chance because it is supposedly one of the best restaurants in Boise. On the 'vegetarian' menu, their rice is actually made with chicken broth. We were sat in the indoor/outdoor patio area in the line of traffic so everyone who walked by hit my partner in the back. We ordered the tableside guacamole which came out on a plastic cart with stale chips who knows how long they had been sitting on the second shelf. The pathway was so narrow he continually had to step aside as the other staff cleared tables carrying plates over the top of the guacamole being prepared. I guess if you douse food in enough bovine lactate the people get the casomorphins from it and think it's great. By default, everything is cooked in butter so we had to specifically ask for oil. The waitress was ambivalent when I told her the food was too spicy, and she asked me what the word "stale" meant when I complained about the chips that came with the $16 guacamole. They had no salsa or topping that didn't contain cream. I would expect a $92 dinner that was virtually untouched after asking two separate people for our check and declining take home boxes that someone would've recognized there was an issue. The Portobello fajitas had so much jalapeno they were borderline inedible. If 0 was an option to rate this place, I would, or just take if off this app altogether.

Cons: Rice on vegetarian menu contains chicken stock, Worst service & longest wait time ever experienced, Highly overpriced compared to quality

Hip Latin Fusion

Super popular dining experience sitting right on a scenic pond in Boise. Be sure to get reservations a week in advance as this is one of the most popular restaurants in town. It has an amazing atmosphere, excellent service, and a separate menu for vegan/Vegetarian items.

Pros: Great Service, Separate Vegan/Vegetarian Menu, Great Atmosphere

Not very vegan friendly

Husband and I came here not realizing how pricey it was. The vegetarian menu does not actually list vegan options, you have to ask. I paid way too much for some guac and a pasta with olive oil and veggies

Fancy Shmancy

I’m not someone who usually goes to higher end restaurants, so this was a pretty unique experience. They do have animal skins and similar decor throughout the place, which is less than ideal. however, they do have a vegan and vegetarian menu.
I recommend getting the guac, it’s filling and a good start to the meal. personally, I wish I would’ve asked for them to add more seasoning. so, don’t be afraid to taste test and give honest feed back!
I got the veggie paella, and I wasn’t a huge fan. my sister got the margarita flatbread and really enjoyed it. my mom got the enchilada verde, which was delicious! make sure to clarify your vegan preferences when you order.

Pros: separate menu, unique decor and atmosphere, attentive service

Cons: not clearly labeled menu, expensive for what it is

Decent vegan/veg offerings

Ask for the veg/vegan menu. Small but nice selection for vegans. Clearly labeled, good flavor. Had the quinoa/red pepper dish. lowering to 3 stars cause You will find lots of meat and skins on the walls but if you have to go for a business function, you have options.

Pros: Tasty vegan options, Good service

Cons: A meat place - strong meat smell, Skins on walls
