Great place

When we entered, we immediately got asked, whether we eat vegan or vegetarian. Everyone was really nice. The staff showed us the vegan and vegetarian options from the menu and answered our questions in english. So it was basically no problem, that there was no written english menu. The food was very good. We had a vegetarian/vegan Mapo Tofu, a vegan Shrimp dish made from Soybeans and Spring rolls.

Pros: Very tasty options, Forth comming staff, Answered questions about dishes

Great food

Very nice food. Owner was very accommodating with Oriental vegetarian request. Plenty vegetarian dishes to order from. Majong noodles tastes like home when I was young.

Decent-enough Taiwanese option in Yokohama

Located in Yokohama's Chinatown, this is an older restaurant that has been run by the same owner for several decades. There is a separate vegetarian/vegan menu, as well as photos of many dishes on the wall for reference. Owner is very helpful and friendly. The food itself is alright - certainly not the greatest Taiwanese vegetarian fare out there, and perhaps pricier relative to comparable (albeit non-vegan) options nearby; you'll still leave fairly satisfied though.

Delicious food- must try

A warm welcome and delicious food. Definitely try the vegetable gyoza and Mapo Tofu - the best we’ve had. Don’t be put off by the lack of English menu, you can get by with the friendliness of the owner, a bit of google translate and the pictures on the wall.

Great!

They can even do oriental vegan, no onion, green onion, garlic, or scallions. That’s why I really love the taste.

The owner is a lovely old man

The food was so good, especially the dumplings and the spring rolls! I ended up ordering too much and could take away the mabo tofu (the owner gave me a small plastic container), which was delicious but so spicy eheh
The restaurant looks quite dated, but it was part of the experience!

Pros: Located in the middle of China Town

Cons: None

Very friendly owners

Was greeted by a lovely Taiwanese couple who are owners. They serve a few vegetarian dishes. Ordered takeaway boiled dumplings and spring rolls.

Pretty nice when out of options

They were closed but kindly let me and my friend in.
The place was messy and dingy but the owner was very friendly, served our food fast and the food itself was pretty tasty, especially the boiled gyoza.

Interesting experience

I'm glad I tried but probably I wouldn't go again. The taste was good but it was quite pricey and the atmosphere was alright but not great tbh.

Worth trying once

This place a little old but has a few vegan options (less than usual though because of Covid). The good was tasty but quite oily. I thought it was expensive for what I got.

Pros: Centre of China town next to temple , Friendly owner

Cons: Expensive (2100 for 3 small dishes) , Limited options

Mild taste, nevertheless very good

Menu says vegetarian but actually is vegan. I ordered Daikon mochi, bifun, mapodofu and dumplings

Pros: Amusing how it replicates the tastes

Cons: A bit oily

Perhaps I was just unlucky.

Banwarou is a little beat down restaurant in Yokohama Chinatown, which has 'Vegetarian' written on its front door.

It was a warm day, so the inside of the restaurant was relatively warm. I was expecting a great service, but alas, it wasn't my lucky day.

I ordered something safe for lunch that day; mapo tofu, rice, and daikon mochi - since everyone else (three other tables) in the restaurant was ordering it. Sadly, I only got the mapo tofu and a bowl of rice. I thought the owner/ server would bring the daikon mochi after I had finished my main meal. Still, after finishing the mapo tofu and waiting for 10 minutes, the daikon mochi never arrives.

What is even more depressing is I can see that other tables were receiving their daikon mochi right after they ordered one.

The mapo tofu I had was alright - nothing to write home about. It's not spicy nor has a depth of flavour coming from the doubanjiang, but it compliments well with the white rice. The portion size was just right for lunch too.

Since I have other things to do (and feeling half full), I asked the older gentleman, who I assume was the owner, to have the daikon mochi as a take out. He was confused until I pointed out that there was only a half-eaten bowl of rice and an almost empty plate of mapo tofu. He then realised that he never gave me the mochi and asked me to wait, but I gave up since I already felt like I had been singled out since the beginning.

As other reviewers have said, it's better to go to Koukien; at least they got the order correct, and the owner/server wasn't screaming at the cook all the time.

Tasty sesame noodles and fried spring rolls

Ordered takeout for a weekday lunch. Due to the pandemic and difficulty of getting ingredients from Taiwan, the vegan menu was more limited than usual, but there were still several options. The sesame noodles were really flavorful. The fried spring rolls were also good. Next time I'm in the area, I'd like to come back.

Not the best vegan option in Yokohama

Went there because Koukien was closed. Tried the mapo tofu, it was okay. On the spicy side for those who like spicy. It was quite oily. The owner was friendly and spoke English. They have quite a few vegetarian dishes but they are on the pricy side. Overall I don’t think this is the best vegan option in Yokohama despite what the other reviews say. I definitely rate Koukien higher.

Pros: lots of veg options , friendly english speaking owner

Cons: quite pricy, no english menu

Tiwanese restaurant with lots of vegan options

Location on googlemaps, happycow and tripadvisor is wrong. Search googlemaps for 萬和樓 (you can find the ‘local’ name on tripadvisor). Or search for Emperor Guan’s shrine in googlemaps and the restaurant is opposite the end of the gate and has a yellow sign and a sign saying vegetarian hand written in the door.

More vegan options than meat options it seemed but enough to keep both veggie / vegan and meat eater happy.

Place is small and a little basic. I had eggplant which was OK and mapo tofu which was good. Prices do seem a little high...

A little beat down but works for vegetarian

It was hard to find first of all. Aukat google map the Japanese name to find correct gps path. Food was kind of oily but at this point my expectations of veh food in Japan is too low to complain about quality of vegetarian food. It's more about existence of vegetarian food

Pros: vegetarian menu with photos, host knows decent level of English

Cons: some dishes are expensive, menu not in english

Delicious

The best option for a vegan visiting the Yokohama Chinatown. I had the mapo tofu and was extremely tasty and amazing, probably the best I’ve tried ever. Also had some steamed gyozas which were nice. Service is good and there’s plenty of vegan options.

Note: the pin on the map can be confusing as well at the Google Maps address. Just search for the Kantei-Byo shrine and the place is right next to it (see the attached picture)

Dingy restaurant

I wasn't confident in the food I was advised was vegan. The meal was sloppy and tasted as if it had been sitting in a pot for 3 days waiting to be heated. The owner was friendly but that was the only positive. The place was far from appetising.
Later in the evening I felt incredibly ill and feel as though it was because of the food I ate here.

Curious place

I went with Japanese friends so I didn't have any problem to understand and make questions. The veggie options are displayed in a wall, the owner was really funny and the place was unique. Servings are big, it's better to share and try several ones.

Pros: Vegan options in Chinatown.

Cons: It can be pricey, depends on what you ask for.

Lovely owner

The only vegan option restaurant at China Town Yokohama. So I couldn't resist to try. The owner was lovely and fun. He was happy that I could speak Japanese so I'm not sure if he speaks English. The vegetarian menu is clearly pointed out but most of it is rather on the wall as pictures. Would've been better if the price is also indicated. Ordered the chilli shrimps made of soy meat and steamed dumplings. Both were delicious but interestingly the soy meat had a fishy taste. I asked again whether it is really seafood free and he assured it... So I could only believe him. I must mention that the price is relatively expensive. Maybe not if you're more than one person so you can share the dishes.

delicious and friendly

The menu wasn't in english so I asked the lady what was her favourite. She served me what seemed like sweet potato in a ketchupy tomato sauce. I had never tried anything like that but it was really good.

This lady was really friendly and asked questions about my travel and my country.

pricy but good noodles

The sesame noodles were good and I finished off the sauce with a bowl of rice to help make it more filling. For 1150 yen kinda pricey but I guess that's Japan

small&nice

the owner explained us the vegetarian menu in english because we didn't understand all the kanji so don't be afraid if you don't speak or read japanese :) the food was 100% self made, arrived fast, tasted great and fresh, you could feel it was homemade with experience :) the only negative aspects for us were the kinda small portions so you have to spend more money if you're hungry.

Pros: big choice of various foods, perfect taste

Cons: a bit pricey but still at an understandable rate
