super solid airport food

got a tofu rice bowl with steamed rice. order it made with no sauce as all the sauces they cook with contain fish sauce, but they told me their peanut dipping sauce doesn’t! so they gave me 2 of those on the side. they also offer sriracha and soy sauce on the side.

Fish sauce...

All sauces made with fish sauce, and they said the bowls were pre mixed so they couldn't make any bowls vegan (or even vegetarian, actually). They said they could do a tofu bahn mi with no mayo which sounds pretty dry. Summer rolls can be vegan. But still, pretty weak options. I went to the taco shop and got rice and beans instead.

All sauces have fish sauce

They can accommodate and make a special garlic soy sauces with tofu but you have to ask. Staff were very nice

Pros: Stir fry

Bành Meh

The grilled tofu Banh Mi was a chunk of stale baguette, a teeny slice of plain tofu, wafer thin cucumber and a minuscule amount of some other vegetables. The only sauce that’s vegan is the off brand sriracha which didn’t add much to the overall flavour. I recommend a wrap from somewhere else if you’re looking for a vegan option at YVR. For $16 this was disappointing.

Grilled tofu banh mi sandwich

Meh. Came with honey aioli so asked for some different sauce. They offered sriracha which I don't like but was able to get some peanut sauce on it.

Neither good or bad

All bowls are vegan if taken with tofu, I took the drunken noodles and they were ok but still quite bland and not exciting. Might be the best option at the airport but would not recommend otherwise.

tofu bowls exist

I had long given up on the idea of finding any vegan meal in the US section of YVR, after the taco shop had informed me that their veggies were cooked in butter. And the signage at this place mentions only chicken and pork in their bowls.

Today I decided, encouraged by the "let us know about food allergies" sign, to ask if any of the bowls could be made vegan. The server replied, tersely, that yes, they could be made with tofu. I didn't push beyond that, and got the Bahn Fire bowl with tofu.

The Bahn Fire bowl looked nice, it was mostly firm tofu and rice. The sauce was some sort of sweet tasting soy sauce type affair. Not spicy, and lacking any substantive veggies, but tasty enough. I don't have any reason to suspect it had fish sauce, but as said above, I did not inquire in depth. I'll try one of the noodle bowls another time.

I suspect if you want a Bahn Mi you'll need to mention no Mayo, but a tofu Bahn mi is already on the menu.

If this were not at the airport I would probably give it 3 stars, but I was so happy to eat a real meal---not a shake or a bag of chips---that I had to give it 4!

Pros: Substantive vegan options

Cons: Names of the dishes are not very descriptive
