Vegan doughnuts, "koffiekoeken" and hotdogs! - Edit
Bakkerij Frimout is right around the corner from us and it actually caught my eye because online, on his Facebook page, the baker actively promotes veganism once in a while through the use of memes. I thought that was quite interesting for someone who also bakes non-vegan things and in my opinion kinda says a lot. So I checked it out (and it's actually quite easy to walk past it as it's not so big and quite hidden). And so anyway, I will say this: Not all of their bread is vegan (some contains honey), but some of it is, and it's nice. But more importantly is what's going on in their "specials"-department.
Read moreWe (1 vegan, 1 pro-vegan carnist) mainly go there for their pesto- and spelt-hotdogs. You have a third option, which is a paprika-hotdog, but neither of us likes it so much.
We've also had a "koffiekoek" before with the yellow cream in between two "cakey buns" and that kind of blew my mind, as there is literally zero difference between this vegan one and the cow milk/ eggs version. According to my partner (the pro-vegan carnist), their doughnuts are what's best, but I'm personally not into doughnuts, so I don't have a clue.
More good things: Very kind people (I always ask a LOT of questions and they take time to answer them all); they have been awarded the vegan awards at one point (I believe it was in 2018?), so that must mean something; by foot it's actually quite close to Gent-Sint-Pieters (the main station); they work together with other "vegan entrepreneurs" such as a vegan chocolatier and a vegan "pop-up" pizzamaker; it's my new go-to bakery, basically.

Tasty - Edit
We hadn't ordered in advance and the vegan offer didn't turn out to be that big on the day/at the hour we were in the bakery. We took some doughnuts (€2-€2,5) and sausage rolls (€2,8), which were all tasty and nostalgic! Not all flavors were my thing, but the sugar free spelt doughnuts were unexpectedly very tasty!

Soooo good! - Edit
If this place wasn't so far away I would come here every Sunday morning to get my breakfast. I wouldn't be able to taste the difference between the vegan and non-vegan pastries!

Pastries - Edit
The pastries the serve are great and the vegan versions they offer don't differ in taste from the original cruel version. (my omnivore family members don't notice a difference)

Pastries - Edit
A long time ago, before i went to a plantbased diet, I was a very big fan of koffiekoeken (pastries). Espacially the one with yellow creme in the middle and cake on the outside. I was very happy to find one of these by Frimout during the vegan summer fest in Gent. The pastrie was soft and creamy as it should be, and it has the same taste as the "Original" ones full with eggs and dairy

Koffiekoeken, what else? - Edit
Bakkerij Frimout jumped on the vegan bandwagon (and all vegans are happy for it). He offers delicious vegan "koffiekoeken", but do they really have to be more expensive than the non-vegan ones?

Wonderful Bakery - Edit
I love being able to into a traditional bakery and order croissants like a regular person! They have a wonderful variety, they are all delicious and the people who work there are always so kind. The only weird thing is not many of their pastries are labeled vegan which is confusing.

I really wanted to try this one. It's good that there's a vegan alternative for (chocolate) croissants but i really don't know what's the fuss is all about. If you want to compare these products objectively, then, you need to compare them with the best. And I can tell you, the best chocolate croissants I've ever eaten are made in France, but these are made with butter... so they still have work to do before we can give them a five star mark.

Delicious pastries - Edit
Bought a couple of flaky pastries (custard and chocolate) and a pack of dark chocolate roses. All were very delicious. I have not had a flaky pastry in many, many years. Have yet to find any bakery in San Francisco Bay Area where I live that makes flaky pastries at all, let alone any that can taste this good. So good, don't even know that it's vegan!!
