Good food and friendly

Enjoyed the bish and chips and burger, friendly service although it could be a little more attentive (we had to walk over a couple of times to get attention). In a bar which the noise was a bit intrusive on our second visit. Still, well worth a visit and great to have another vegan eaterie in Brum!

Food was good but it was missing something

Had 3 small dishes to share, all were nice but nothing to get excited about, definitely go back to see if it was an off night.

Fantastic

What a great thing to have here in Birmingham! All vegan, the best thing about Baha is the people that run it, so warm, friendly and obviously passionate about their food, which is always fantastic. They offer just the kind of things I miss, comforting stuff like Sunday Roasts (not easy to find a decent vegan one around here), buffalo ‘not’ wings etc. So happy that this place exists, wish them all the success to continue and expand their business.

Pros: Warm, friendly, caring staff. , Passionate about their business , Food is always delicious

Fancy Vegan Place Combined With A Bar

This place is a fantastic restaurant with the food being incredibly delicious, especially the burger but suffers from being combined with a bar.

To start with the bad, on the first visit to BA-HA everything is just unclear, and the location is not clearly signposted making it quite tricky to find, especially considering how far back in the mall it is. Being combined but separate to a bar is also a quite confusing concept that makes the first visit to the restaurant an unnecessary hassle. At my first visit to BA-HA we just sat down anywhere but only later did we realise that there was separate seating for the restaurant, causing unnecessary bother. The place itself though is generally very aesthetic, with a favourable atmosphere. The bar, however, yet again brings another problem as the noise from the bar can be quite annoying and brings down the atmosphere of the restaurant.

On the flip side, BA-HA is in quite a lovely location with a beautiful canal in front of it and as it is very near the Alexandra Theatre; making it a great vegan option for pre-meal for the theatre. The food itself is fantastic, with the burger being delightful and the lasagne tasting delicious. Additionally, no complaints at all with the staff who were all very kind and considerate. The prices themselves were relatively steep, especially for students, but understandable considering the quality of the food and location.

To conclude, if you are prepared and willing to forgive the place being combined with a bar, BA-HA makes for a romantic date location and should be given a chance by all vegans in Birmingham.

Pros: Amazing food, Great location

Cons: Combined with a bar, Confusing seating situation

Not vegan premises

1. BA-HA is inside a non-vegan bar. I.e. these are NOT vegan premises.
Our server did not know which drinks might be vegan. I was eventually brought a copy of the bar's drinks menu with handwritten comments on as to what might be vegan. Instead of the advertised promise of vegan gins and cocktails, had to stick to beer. Obviously, spirits would NEVER be vegan due to the use of mixed-use measuring cups (no optics). Also, table was sticky, presumably due to non-vegan drink spillage. This was NOT the vegan experience advertised.

**I'm not sure that other diners understood the difference between the kitchen and bar so I'm flagging this as a matter of some urgency**

2. £12 lasagne was small, tasteless, and the pasta was 'crunchy' ie not right. Salad was wilted, no dressing.

3. Chips/fries were more like roast potato wedges. A bit rebaked and soggy. Underseasoned, nice herbs, no salt available.

4. Other dishes (small plates) were lovely.

5. Service wasn't great. You arrive to a busy loud bar, walk aimlessly towards the back, and numerous confused staff rummage through drawers and forget to seat or serve you. Noise levels won't give you a cosy romantic supper, but hey ho. Service picked up massively when someone i take to be an owner (v short hair, beautiful, engaging) arrived.

Pros: Small plates were nice

Cons: Not as advertised as at 20 Oct 2019 via HC, fb etc

Perfection

I've wanted to go for quite a while and it was definitely worth the wait. The nott wongs were what I've been searching for for a long time and then kentucky burger was unreal. The crisp was just like real chicken! Frankie took care of us and talked us through the menu. Can't wait to go back!

Pricey and overrated?

The restaurant is in a lovely location and the staff are extremely lovely. However, the selection of vegan dishes is scarce and both my lasagna and my mum’s pasta were overcooked and didn’t taste that amazing? I make a better lasagna and it comes out cheaper which makes me think this place isn’t worth it. Service can also be a tad bit slow even when they’re not that busy.

Pros: All vegan , Lovely view

Cons: Pricey, Slow, Flavourless

The best vegan restaurant in Brum!

UPDATED Oct 2019 - BA-HA is still a must go to place and I implore you to try it because you'll most certainly be going back for more!

The food is just incredible, absolutely delicious. You would be hard pressed to find vegan food on this level in regards to flavour fusions, presentation and portion size. This is our second visit and we will definitely be returning in the future, next time with the family.

Keep up the fantastic work BA-HA!

Pros: Excellent food, Amazing staff, Fantastic all round and reasonable prices too

Cons: Absolutely None

Delicious, and lovely location

I went here on a Friday night, I was a bit worried after some complaints about noise on here, but it was fine, the bar it's in has a comfortable atmosphere, mostly people chatting, like a normal restaurant.

The food is amazing! The Nott wings are a must try, and the 'Bish' in my vegan fish and chips was awesome, the texture was spot on and it even had 'skin' which was a must have for me as a meat eater; the taste was mild like cod but less dry and more flavourful. The sauces too, are top notch.

The staff were really friendly and welcoming, helpful in giving advice about drinks and opinions on the food. Couldn't help making you smile. I do have one issue, however, I took a phone call and my partner paid, he paid by card and there was no tip option, he thought I had more cash, I didn't; we could only put down a couple of quid and I'm heartbroken because they deserved so much more! I'm absolutely sure that we will be back again soon, and I can make up for the tipping. I feel awful, wonderful serving staff if you see this, I'm so sorry, you guys were amazing and I promise to make it up when I'm back to try practically everything else on the menu.

Pros: delicious food, good value , welcoming environment

Cons: Couldn't tip by card

Expensive vegan food

I loved the place was beautiful felt weird though as people were there just to drink and only and my partner we're eating. The food was a little pricey. We did the £15 for 3 starters and then ordered a main meal each. The "fish & chips" the taste was really off for myself and I didn't enjoy it. The boyfriend had the £15 burger which was amazing but the bun was hard and the chips with both meals were lovely. Just wish they had more on the menu to choose from. Would definitely go again though.

Pros: Differnt vegan options

Cons: Expensive

Great food but the bar was too noisy!

The food was lovely and it was great to have the choice of pasta dishes for a change and desert chooses were amazing! Just the atmosphere really put me off. It was Saturday at six to be fair but it’s just not what a wanted for a nice dinner. The restaurant is in a bar and it was so noisy I could hardly have a conversation across the table.

Good afternoon Katie,

Thank you for taking time to review us.

We fully understand that Friday and Saturday evenings can be very loud, unfortunately this is out of our control as we are in collaboration with Churchills, an already existing Bar. As it is peak time we can only do so much to ensure the noise level is suitable.

May I suggest visiting us on quieter periods. I would suggest anytime between Sunday and Thursday as the weekend cannot guarentee quiet periods.

We are very happy to be in collaboration with Churchills and do our best to be as accomodating as possible. We strive for 5 star experience every time and this effects us as an independant business.

Should you wish to book again please email:
bahavegan@outlook.com

I am more than happy to help, I can book you in at a suitable time for a more peaceful experience.

We hope you understand as we work together with Churchills, it is such a shame that guests in the bar were very loud.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Best wishes,
Frankie.

Poor service and poor quality

Dropped in last night, Wednesday. Only about 10 people max in the venue. Ordered a Negroni and a bottle of water. Ordered then food from a fairly limited choice. I ordered the Cauliflower wings and Jack fruit balls both of which arrived before either my water or Negroni!! THEY WERE TASTY...

My Oyster mushroom Burger arrived shortly after finishing my starters.
The Brioche roll was stale hard and cold, not even room temperature. The salad adorning the plate was wilted, soggy and limp, the fries were soggy and whilst I asked for salt and pepper the chips were totally over salted before I even got near adding any.

I had eaten in the previous venue and was well satisfied.

Pros: Great selection of Gin, Plenty of seating, Bright airy

Cons: Very slow service, The bar staff were inexperienced , Poor delivery on promise

Good afternoon Tim,

Thank you for taking time to review us based on your most recent visit.

I am very disappointed to hear that your experience was not up to expectations. We strive for excellence. We would have been more than happy to replace your burger and chips should it have been as poor as stated.

In regards to the bar, we are in collaboration with Churchills. I will look into this as any negative input based on your experience with the bar effects us as an independant business, such as this review.

I can confirm that more than 10 guests were in the venue, I understand that you are upset with your experience however, this is important information as the bar was busier in the bar area.
We apologise for the wait as we fully understand that it took longer on this occasion.

This is our first negative review and I am very disappointed.

Please contact us directly as I would like to investigate further as I take this matter very seriously.

I remember your visit previously and I am glad you enjoyed it.

We hope you understand that as we grow we need to extend the team. We take all constructive critism on board and take action moving forward within our training.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
Frankie

Exciting flavours

The bish & chips (banana blossom) was incredible - I have never tasted anything like it. Kentucky oyster burger was crispy and umami. We enjoyed the vegan buffalo cauliflower wings starter too.
Our non-vegan friend didn’t notice we were at a plant based restaurant (incl. vegan Parmesan, cheddar & mayonnaise)
Highly recommended!

Pros: Lots of off-the-beaten tracks vegan flavours , Lovely staff , Interesting textures

Cons: Too expensive to go every day

Delicious

Located in the bar it was bit confusing that all tables had "reserved" signs. Until I found out they are reserved for me/us (despite bar visitors) :)

Had the Pasta with mushrooms and creamy garlic... what can I say? Just ..jummmyy. it was sooo good. Also the "snickers" dessert.

Frankie did everything to make us customers feel welcome. You feel that she is passionate about this. Not cheap, but worth the money as it is quality and in a posh location.

Pros: lovely high quality food, several options, beautiful food presentation, good service

Cons: Expensive

Amazing food!

My partner & I shared 6 small plates:
Nachos, loaded fries, bbq nobo, mac & cheese, spicy not wings & mild not wings. All of the dishes were amazing & I honestly could not pick a favourite!
We were served by Hev who made us feel welcomed & nothing was to much trouble. She went through the menu & explained what the bbq nobos are as I’d not come across these before.
We shall definitely return & will look out for you when you set up more locally to me! 😉

Amazing!!

Wow!! Where to start....
Such a lovely welcome by Hev, she made us feel so comfortable and welcome. The food was top notch, those Nott wings are to die for and the Nobo well what a lovely surprise (also suggested by Hev) we wasn't going to have them but glad we did. The Bish and chips was so tasty and mouthwatering, I could have ate more but glad I didn't as I saved myself for the chocolate brownie which was just amazing. Leaving this review as a massive thank you as we wasn't able to leave a tip as we only had cards on us.

Pros: So much to choose from and reasonably priced

Cons: There aren't any!!

The best vegan food I've had in ages

My partner and I went there for a two-course meal and it was definitely the best vegan food we've had in ages. The Nott wings (cauliflower) has absolutely blown my mind, I could have never imagined cauliflower can be so nice! It was a little bit on the spicy side but both my partner and I love spicy food so it only made it more special. My main course was bish (banana blossom 'fish') and chips and it was very nice too, the best banana blossom 'fish' I've had. My partner had a wild mushroom pasta that was very nice too. On top of that, we had some delicious vegan wine. Frankie was an amazing host, very attentive and positive and gave us some good recommendations. I'd definitely recommend this place and will go back again when I'm in Birmingham!

Pros: Mindlowingly amazing vegan food, Vegan wine available

Cons: Menu could be expanded a bit
