Delicious Fine Dining - Edit
As others mention, it is a long wait between dishes but all of them are delicious. It's a set menu that is based on seasonal availabilities so there are seasonal menus if you'd like to try them all.

The plating will blow your mind, just note... - Edit
...it's a looong wait time for each dish! It took 2.5 hours for each plate of my dinner to roll in, so if you plan to dine here, be prepared!

あわたま vegan restaurant was the best meal and dining experience we have ever had! - Edit
We decided to treat ourselves and go here on Christmas for their set holiday menu. When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff and welcomed into the gorgeous restaurant which was decorated with a minimalistic fresh natural aesthetic.
We had seven courses of the tastiest food I have ever eaten in my life. Everything was cut and presented so beautifully, we have never seen anything like it. We were served a variety of dishes, all of which were extremely tasty with a unique flavour you can not find anywhere else in the world. We were served everything from fresh salad to homecooked soy meat. The waitress also works as their pastry chef and she made the most exquisite dessert of chocolate mousse, apricot slice and rum and raisin ice cream. She even gave us some Christmas cookies to take home which was a really nice touch. She also spoke great English so there were no issues making a booking and was very friendly and easy to communicate with during our dining experience. The chef himself said he had been vegan for over 20 years, you could tell by his amazing culinary skills that he has a passion for not only cooking delicious and healthy food but turning it into an art form.
Good value for money. This is a more expensive dining experience but totally worth it. With entirely organic ingredients and made from scratch, as well as the craftsmanship the creativity of all the dishes. We are Australian and eat a lot of food and the portions here were large and we were stuffed full by the end!
I could tell the staff paid a lot of attention to detail by the way they served us hot towels, decorated our table and their professionalism. I also think it's important as a vegan to support vegan businesses, especially in Japan where vegan food is rare.
We will definitely be back while we stay in Gunma and will always remember this as one of our most special Christmas ever and best fine dining experience.
Pros: Fully vegan , Welcoming and friendly staff , Beautiful setting
Cons: Price, however it’s justified by the quality

No need for Tokyo - Edit
This restaurant is a hidden gem! Vegans and vegetarians (and everyone)- there is no need to go to Tokyo for an amazing meal. Tucked away in a small, charming location- Awatama was the best plant based meal I had on my entire trip to Japan. Not only was each course carefully crafted, but the whole meal felt like an intimate experience with the talented family who created it. Absolutely delicious... don’t waste your time with the crowded streets of Tokyo without first stopping here.

We've had 5 courses meal and every single course was very delicious, creative and artsy. Reservation required. This is for sure one of the best vegan restaurants in Japan and well worth a trip to Gunma.
