Great menu

Whenever I come to Canberra, this is one of the veg eats spots on my list. Wasn’t a big fan of the honey chicken but did enjoy the soy beef with chilli. The duck pancakes are lovely.

Pros: Big menu, Generous serves, Reasonably priced

Mock meat

I tried the vegan duck and chicken. I don’t know if it tastes anything like the real thing but it was delicious.

Impressed by this meal

Very tasty options here! We had the “soy honey chicken” and “pepper beef steak”, with a side of vegetables. I woke up the next morning feeling light and energised, unlike I normally do after gorging myself!
The “steak” was extremely meaty tasting (I mean this in a complimentary way, v tasty), and I would have been concerned that it was really meat had it not been a vegan restaurant.
Staff were friendly and the place was packed! Reasonably priced too

Pros: Lots of options , Mock meats are well done , Friendly staff

I have been going to Au Lac for over ten years, so of course there has been times when my meal wasn’t great - but overall, I love this place.
Great food, staff aren’t as good as they used to be, but I love Au Lac, lots.

Pros: Good food, Lots of options, Overall good environment

Cons: Communication isn’t great, Bit speno

The service is really good and the food is amazing I recommend this place! Amazing mock meat, and there is a lot of options on the menu to satisfy anyone.
I love their nuggets, corn soup, wontons, crunchy wontons, spring rolls. The main meals are huge but worth it.

Great mock meat

The roast ‘duck’ in a love you most sauce was absolutely amazing and from memory and reports back from friends, its indistinguishable from the real thing!

Good if you like mock meat

This place is great if you feel like some mock- meat. But ironically, if you just want something with veggies you can't get it! Also, the vegetables here frequently seem gluggy and goopy, rather than fresh and crisp.

Absolutely love this place

Probably my favourite restaurant in Canberra. The BBQ southern fried dish (can't remember which type of soy meat it is) is amazing I have dreams about it sometimes. My non-vegan friends absolutely love it too.

Pros: Full vegan menu

Best vegan roast duck ever!

Exceptionally good mock meat dishes. We had the roast duck (smokey hoisin-like sauce) which was crispy on the outside and tender inside. Partner had the fish, also excellent, although personally the taste a bit realistic for me :P

Great Meal Great Find

Decided to visit Au Lac for our first vegan meal in Canberra. We were not disappointed. The restaurant was almost full (always a good sign) and we’d not reserved but a table for two was quickly found. Ordered ‘Beef’ Rendang with berry brown rice and Wonton noodles as mains. Lychees and ice cream with strawberry topping for dessert. All tasted great.

Pros: Excellent menu choices, Value for money, Tasty food

Cons: Crowded so might need to reserve

Absolutely yummy!

Beautiful food, yummy salad too! We used to go to the Wollonggong branch all the time because it’s closer to home. Wish it was still there but no matter - Canberra is just two and half hours away 😂

Ridiculous EFTPOS Minimum

I’ve been here a number of times. The food has always been great, but the sense of entitlement is grating. They had a $30 EFTPOS minimum and raised it to $35 when people complained. They claimed they needed to for business purposes, but the vegan place serving similar food a few doors up doesn’t. Not great for single people getting takeaway. They also don’t split bills. Don’t be fooled when they offer you tea on arrival. It’s not complimentary

Pros: 100% vegan, Food is good

Cons: High EFTPOS minimum, Won’t split bills.

Overpriced and mediocre

Also note, doesn't have much selection for wheat intolerant customers.

The food isn't bad, but it's not great value. We prefer the nearby Kingsland.

Pros: good selection

Cons: overpriced

For a more formal vegan meal

It had been 5 or 6 years since we'd last eaten at Au Lac. It used to be our preferred vegetarian restaurant in Dickson. Recently, finding that our now-favourite Kingsland was not yet open for a late lunch/early dinner, we decided to try Au Lac again. The dining area of the restaurant has been completely renovated, and they have a new, fancier menu. The ambience is perfect for a lovely evening meal. We tried the Bun (vermicelli), Roast Duck, and fresh juices. Everything was light and delicious, even though we prefer the roast duck from Kingsland. We'll eat here again.

Pros: Lovely ambiance, Fresh, nicely presented food, Separate menu with gluten-free options

Cons: pricier than others, but not overpriced

Amazing food!! Never tried Asian mock meats before today and I was blown away. Especially the mock lemon chicken and plum duck! Would 100% recommend.
Also super quick and friendly service with food out within 5 minutes.

Vegan foodie heaven

Lovely vegan Vietnamese restaurant with a huge menu! We had the "duck" rolls "seafood" rolls for entrée - delicious and I'm not a fan of mock meats. Very generous portions & reasonable prices. $92 fed 3 people 2 x entrée, 3 x mains, 3 x desserts & iced coffee. We have enough food for takeaway dinner! Highly recommend

please come back to Wollongong!!!

We are from Wollongong and used to eat at the restaurant there all the time. Now we can only get your amazing food once or twice a year when we visit Canberra. Please come back to the gong 😀

Make sure you're hungry

The servings are just about as big as the taste. If someone thinks vegan food sucks. Take them here!

Yes, but

I used to visit Au Lac regularly so it was good to come back after at least a couple of years. They have meanwhile completely renovated the place which is a big improvement - more spacious and open. We tried a soup - which was a huge serving and very good and a Vietnamese crepe which was so-so. The side salad with the crepe was just a few slices of iceberg lettuce, three slices of cucumber and some limp Vietnamese mint which added nothing to the meal. Meanwhile the crepe was lacking in flavour and skimpy on the filling. However the apple and kale juice was refreshing...but very sweet.
Service was quick to start but as the place filled up the lone waitress was stretched and there was at least 10 minutes gap between my main course and my partners arriving at the table.

Pros: Good choice and decor

Cons: Vietnamese food tastes much better than this
