great family owned spot - Edit
Delicious Ethiopian in small unpretentious family-owned spot short Uber ride from downtown and UT. Kasai is 2nd generation owner, warm and welcoming! Half of menu vegan with variations from standard Ethiopian fare. Inexpensive. Big portions. Cold Ethiopian beer. Great spot, I'll be back

Lunch Buffet! - Edit
Ordered: Lunch Buffet
Read moreThe staff was very friendly and went through the different vegan options and ultimately decided on the lunch buffet because it allowed me to try all of the options. collard greens, eggplant, potato and many lentil dishes both hot and cold as well as mild and spicy. I recommend for anyone with a desire for variety and an appetite.
Pros: Tasty Buffet, Great staff

Delicious! - Edit
I ordered online and specified ‘vegan’ for the 5 option veg meal (which only comes ‘for two’). It was absolutely delicious- there was cabbage, two kinds of lentils, collard greens, eggplant, and plenty of injera for scooping everything up. I had enough leftover for lunch and dinner the next day. Very good vegan options, but they do serve meat here.

Three stars because it gave me “the runs” and someone else too who went there a few days after me. Not sure if we are just not used to these decadent spices or there was something wrong with the food. Otherwise very delicious, good service.

Adding Vegan, Oil-free Options - Edit
Aster's is such a wonderful, charming and delicious Austin gem. I went for an event with ATX Alive (plant-based, oil-free group). Aster's made a whole menu for us and it was delicious. They had such a good response that they will permanently add at least one vegan, oil-free option to their menu beginning March 11, 2018.

Vegan food is better than the meat dishes. Happy but overly attentive staff.

Decent food, ambience is nonexistent - Edit
My wife and I eat a lot of Ethiopian so we've definitely found some favorites around North America. This definitely isn't at the top of the list but it's hard to go too wrong with a mixed veggie platter. Not a stylish or classy environment so keep that in mind if bringing guests.
