A chef who really knows what good fresh healthy food and flavour is all about. The menu offers a very good size vegetarian entree and a large vegetarian main, which can both easily be made vegan. The wine list was also excellent and reasonably priced. Truly amazing veg food in the south of France.
There aren’t many restaurants within the castle walls. This one is a bit off the main square so perhaps they try harder and are not as touristy. I gave it a try since they had a vegetarian plate on their listed menu. I asked if they could make it vegan and the chef said he could. The result was a delicious and creative dish of grilled vegetables and a few assorted dipping sauces and mouses. The vegetables were flavorful and tender. They were even able to do a vegan dessert: lemon sorbet in a strawberry soup with basil.
When traveling to smaller towns in France, such as this, It’s important to be able to find a chef that is willing to prepare something vegan even if it is not on the menu or a primarily veggie-oriented restaurant. This was a classic example of how this could go very well for the traveling vegan.
Price including a glass of wine and a three euro tip was €50 total per person. Not cheap, but definitely worth it for the quality of food.
