I think mine is the first 2023 review. The menu now lists which items are available vegan or vegetarian, which is nice, and staff are helpful. We are just coming out of our pandemic shells so may be somewhat less critical of restaurant Thai than others after 3 years of Thai delivery, but we really liked it. The pad gaprow and the pad kee mao for mains and two special appetizers, a mango salad with tofu and a fresh roll with avocado. They also had these very interesting butterfly pea teas. We tried the ginger and the lemon grass. They also had brown rice as an option (not usual for Thai) and the sticky rice was excellent.
Overall the food was very tasty. It does not come spicy unless you ask but they had a very good hot sauce we could add if we wanted.
As other reviewers note, portions are not large by American standards, but we found them in line with portion sizes at other upscale Thai places.
I got the green curry with vegetables and tofu. I asked the waitress to make it very spicy and the level of spice was nice. Sauce was not as complex as I had hoped for and the portion was small.
Aroi is such a cute restaurant. The staff are so friendly and attentive, and they understand veganism perfectly.
Items on the menu are not marked vegan or vegetarian, but our server was able to tell us which dishes were vegan or able to be made vegan. Our server was very knowledgeable about veganism, which put us at ease.
The food was alright. At this price point, I feel the quality should have been better. Presentation was a bit subpar, and the food tasted toned down and almost bland— not bad, but nothing to write home about.
Their drink menu is sizable. They have a few cocktails and beers and quite a few wines, although the wines are mostly bottom shelf wines that have been marked way up.
This is a good spot to get a decent meal if you’re already in the area, but if it’s really good Thai you’re craving, I’d recommend seeking out a small mom-and-pop restaurant.
Aroi offers a number of tasty vegan options, noted on the menu for ease of ordering. I usually get one of the curries and sub-in brown rice for white, some fresh rolls stuffed with veges, and perhaps the hot kale soup. Prices are reasonable overall, and Aroi can work for a fairly quick bite or a longer stay with friends for good food and wine. If you're in Rhinebeck, you can't go wrong with this as an option.
