Large busy place with food for all - Edit
We are so grateful for Aracosia and its kind staff who always get us in at the last minute when we are visiting family in the area. Afghani food is flavorful and heavy on the plants. We can never resist the pumpkin dumplings (ask for the vegan wrapper) and the vegan sampler plate that includes rice, carrots, eggplant, lentils, chickpea stew, and more -- and it is huge! They offer vegan yogurt sauce as well as cashew cream.
Read moreAracosia has heaters for dining outside. It's in a small complex with free parking underneath. There is a 2nd location across the river in the NW. Good place for families as well as date night. The DC area has so many vegan restaurants and veg-friendly ones. That along with the amazing free museums and wonderful architecture make this area a true pleasure to visit.
Pros: Staff gets vegan options, huge portions, good service & wine selection

Lots of aromatic herbs & spices skillfully assembled & not too spicy. Generous portions, friendly staff, satisfying dining experience.
Read moreComfortable outside seating with warming heaters for chilly evenings. Parking lot adjacent to the restaurant; wine list with some pleasant selections.
Risotto with butternut squash = delicious. Cardamom & black tea served hot & flavorful.
Pros: Several more vegan things to try next visit
Cons: Eggplant dish delicious, but a tad too oily

Can’t wait to be back! - Edit
Aracosia has an entire site of its menu dedicated to vegetarians. Everything vegetarian can easily be turned into vegan. Tell your waiter that you are vegan and they will use almond yogurt for the sauces.

I prefer the decor and ambiance of their DC location, but the food is the same and fantastic! Order their vegan combo plate, and you will have one of the best dishes you have eaten.
