Can't live without this place... - Edit
The St. Joseph, MI area does not have any big healthy grocery stores. I have to make do with mainstream grocery. I'm glad to find Apple Valley Natural Foods. I love their bulk section and they are definitely the closest natural food store around.

Vegan gem in Southwest Michigan! - Edit
When you walk in, the main store looks like a typical local supermarket and to your right, just past produce there is an attached health food store. There is zero animal flesh in both the main grocery store and health food area. But the main store does sell eggs and cows milk products. There are vegan foods throughout the main store and tons in the health area. I couldn't believe how many aisles were just jam packed with a gazillion vegan foods. So many delicious snacks and some nice specialty cheezes. The main store frozen section has very unhealthy and extremely delicious vegan cupcakes in 12 packs (your kids' non-vegan friends will gobble these up). Also lots of frozen vegan foods in main store.

My only complaint is the produce. Every single thing I bought was moldy or sprouting 2 days after buying it. Even the lemons turned squishy. Nothing looked that old at the store which I found very odd.
Skip the produce and make sure you check ingredients because a couple items were pointed out to me as vegan but they had milk derivatives.
Pros: selection, kid friendly foods, in SW Michigan
Cons: very old produce, unhelpful staff, disorganized

Awesome Bulk Section! - Edit
My grandma started bringing me to this store when I was little and I've seen it change so much in the past 30+ years. All the changes are always for the better. It's the absolute BEST place for bulk items - I get my TVP, grains, beans, legumes and more here. Prices are great and the staff is always so friendly. I feel healthy just being in this store :)

I LOVE THIS HEALTH STORE! - Edit
I shop here weekly and I love their selection of bulk products. I typically purchase produce, nuts, seeds, and vegan bars. I also enjoy their Cafe from time to time. The veggie wrap rocks. Everything always fresh and affordable.
