Horrible Service - Edit
We used to come here on occasion. We'd enjoy their burritos and vegan pancakes. Until one day, we were served pancakes with the batter gone horribly sour. Sent them back twice to no avail. Waiter didn't charge us for the meal, but showed no effort to remedy the situation at all. We obviously came their to eat, but apparently the waiters go there to socialize; not do their jobs. Wouldn't even come to the front to change bills for a tip, which I guess was my mistake to even think about in the first place. Bunch of lazy kids raised by tired old wheels.

So...I used to love anthem vegan but since they moved to tornado bar on 30th st, can’t say I love it. The food is ok but not lovin’ the ambience.

Great tacos - Edit
I haven’t been to the restaurant, but they set up a booth at my university’s farmers market every Thursday. It’s a bit pricey, but the pollo asado tacos are amazing. 10$ for 2 tacos is a little much, but they really are delicious

Worst Nachos in my Life - Edit
I’ve had better nachos at bowling alleys. Vegan nachos are difficult to ruin, but they met the challenge. I tried to give them 1 star, but HappyCow won’t let me. Who puts vege USA Taiwan mock meat on nachos and serves it on stale chips.

Well said! They had giant bags of flavorless vege USA Taiwan mock meat at the El Cajon Boulevard location.

Bad Food Worse Owner - Edit
The food is embarrassingly bland but worse is the owner. He has a horrible reputation in this town. From being abusive to staff to ripping off everyone he has dealt with to running a BS kickstarter campaign. Dont go here.

Tacos and Philly Cheese Steak - Edit
I'm not a huge fan of the bar scene since my husband and I are not drinkers, but we wanted to try Anthem for lunch. My husband had the Philly Cheese Steak and I had the Karne Asada tacos. Both were absolutely delicious. The seasoned fries that came with my husband's sandwich were very good, but the tortilla chips that came with my tacos were stale and had no salt or salsa. I was also a little discouraged by the fact that we only had a choice of regular Coke, bottled root beer, or a water cooler for non alcoholic drinks. We give food gets a 4 1/2 stars out of 5 due to the stale chips and the restaurant a total of 4 because of the atmosphere. Also a bit pricey for bar food.

Do not support this crook just because it's vegan. Owner is a garbage human. - Edit
Unethical owner, food has no flavor, expensive. Talk to any of the people he has screwed over and you will never support this scumbag! All his food is highly processed and flavorless. Bulk Taiwanese vegan beef strips with sriracha. The burger he goes on and on about all the time was created by the chef he screwed over, and never gave any credit to.
Read moreOne example of this piece of garbage owner, called a meeting for 9 am Friday morning. Had the whole staff sit around until 10:30, some of whom were single mothers who had to ride the bus with little children in order to make it there. Fired everyone and lied about the reason. These were loyal staff who had supported him for a year, waited to be paid because their checks bounced every pay period and he would lie and say his bank account got hacked, but NEVER accepted responsibility. My family physically paid for and built his El Cajon Boulevard location, with my 2 and 6 year old sitting there in the construction for months while this scumbag sat and posted on Instagram every day while everyone else worked. In order to protect himself, he had secretly arranged a new location, having known for months the location would close due to not paying the rent for months on end, but gave 2 days notice to his staff. Utter garbage!!
Luckily for him, his staff has not spoken publicy yet about this scumbag, but talk to anyone who worked there and they will tell you. When challenged on social media, he lied and said he hired everyone back at the new location. That was a complete lie.
For anyone wondering why the El Cajon Boulevard location closed, it was because the owner had zero work ethic. He insisted on taking Sundays (the busiest day) off for his "mental health". Anyone knows, if you own a restaurant you have to work hard. He refused to take anyone's advice. There was no oversight on the food quality and the wait times were far too long, all while he sat in his office with the doors locked, too chicken to face anyone or oversee the food that was being served his "own" restaurant!

Amazing Food - Edit
Every dish here is a banger. I don't love the new location. It's too loud and it's a crowd with mixed needs from the restaurant/bar. Probably fine for some people, i'm not a fan. But at the end of the day i'm there for the food.

Not really digging the new location. It's inside a bar called Toronado. As soon as I walked in, the place smelled like smoke, which was coming from the back patio...and the door to the back was open.

Excellent service and setting. The food was delicious. - Edit
The restaurant is beautiful setting. Sort of a mid century style Deli. The service was excellent. Our group had the Western Bacon Burger, Impossible burger melt and the carne asada tacos. All were excellent! Also the menu selection was excellent. I wanted to try everything! Can’t wait to return!

Breakfast Missing Flavor - Edit
I hate to give an all vegan spot anything less than praise, but I just didn’t enjoy the food. Had the sausage breakfast sandwich and biscuits and gravy. The sandwich had very little flavor. It doesn’t take much to flavor tofu and add body to a dish, and this tofu was sadly under utilized. It didn’t taste like anything was done to it other than some turmeric added for color. Sausage was just okay. The sandwich really could’ve used some kind of sauce or even just some salt. The gravy had an odd, sweet flavor. Didn’t taste anything like country gravy to me. I want to see any vegan establishment do well, and this place could improve with some bolder flavor choices.

Great Vegan Spot - Edit
Everything vegan so that's cool. And they have a farmer's market inside with yummy vegan things so that's also cool. But the dishes can be very hit or miss so that's not cool. Their vegan "meat" has some strange tastes sometimes which is not cool. But the price in nice and the huge selection is cool.

Best in San Diego - Edit
This restaurant is awesome. I have looked forward to eating their food for years. But having to go to the markets to get it was a hassle sometimes. Now I can go any day of the week for some of the best vegan food in San Diego. The staff is always cheerful and kind. The cooks do an awesome job with the food. If you are in San Diego, this is a must try. Those onion rings......!

Would Definitely Return - Edit
We went twice for breakfast last week and were so grateful since it's hard to find all vegan breakfast food anywhere. Our waitress was just wonderful and we were happy to have her both mornings. Over the course of the two days we had the Fluff Cakes, the SoWestern Breakfast Burrito, The HamEggatron (substituting bacon for the ham), the Tofu Mushroom Scramble and a side of Faux Huevos. My husband loved everything and I liked everything. It turns out that the tofu (which was in all our dishes minus the cakes) is marinated in apple cider vinegar. My husband likes sour tastes and I do not. That being said, I would happily return, but would avoid anything with tofu.

I literally had to ask if the food was vegan when my plate came out. I ordered the chickn avocado wrap. So good!
