Cool concept, average burger - Edit
Being able to veganize their extensive range of burgers was pretty impressive and made life very difficult (in the best way) to choose which one to have. I went for the North Carolina ‘pulled pork’ burger and curly fries after being recommended it by one of the staff. The portion size was great and left me feeling very full for the rest of the afternoon. The burger itself was pretty good but I was kind of expecting a soy based meaty alternative to go with their greasy traditional burger theme. Instead it was a veg/bean based beetroot patty. The pulled pork was also alright but I could have picked up a nicer alternative in Tesco’s, for example their pulled ommph. The cheese was a disappointment, they could have at least tried to melt it or used vegan mozzarella instead of cutting up slices of violife. I think this restaurant will easily be able to improve but for now their alright burger wasn’t worth the pricetag that came with it.

Use to be the best burgers ever! - Edit
Updated review as this place is sadly not what it was! Terrible service and old style vegan burgers from a burger mix with a huge price mark up
Read moreAnnies does the best burgers ever, something for everyone as all burgers can be meat, veggie or vegan, i think they can offer gluten free options but check on their fb page. They now have the option of sweet potato fries for an extra £1
The new venue is amazing, much much better than the Navigation, the new staff are really lovely and the wait time for food has been decreased.
You need to book in advance if you want a table at a set time, but if you get there for opening time then you should be ok for a walk in.
There was only one vegan beer on tap when I visited but more options in bottles.

Disappointed - Edit
While there is a lot of choice as the menu can all be made vegan, I just didn’t find that the quality was there. The chicken pieces were just like frozen quorn nuggets, and the burger was small and had some dreadful ‘bacon’ on top. Wanted to love it but unfortunately didn’t! Feel like it’s something I could’ve made better myself by just swinging by the frozen aisle of a supermarket.

Anniething can be made vegan - Edit
Het principe is hier heel makkelijk. Ze kunnen alles vegan maken. Alles van de kaart! Hoe ze bijvoorbeeld blauwe kaas vervangen? Geen idee. Niet naar gevraagd. Was het lekker? Absoluut! Het personeel is ook verschrikkelijk aardig.

Smaller menu - Edit
They've recently changed the menu to make it quite a bit smaller which was a let down, because going through all the ludicrous options was my favourite bit! Everything can be made veggie or vegan though so it's still a good option.

Fun menu but burgers are just okay - Edit
I’ve been here several times, the staff have always been lovely.
Read moreThe variety of the menu is great (maybe even a bit overwhelming).
The burgers are okay. The patty itself I find quite dry and crumbly, it’s not my favourite. As for the toppings, they’re a bit hit and miss. Last time I tried a burger that was supposed to be topped with pulled pork, but was nothing like pulled pork.
It’s great that all burgers can be made vegan, but I think they should reduce the menu so that what they offer is better. I love the choice of fries (I love curly fries). Vegan Mayo is available on request.
The portion sizes are huge and I always leave very full.

Vegan options for everything - Edit
It’s great that everything on the menu can be made either vegetarian or vegan, but it’s not obvious from the menu how some of the burgers could be adapted - for example, several burgers feature specific cheeses and I doubt there are vegan equivalents for those unique flavours.
Read moreThe vegan burger is a roasted beetroot, mashed kidney bean and soya mix with a bit of vegetable shortening and seasonings. It’s okay, but I’m not sure they’ve got it right yet. It’s too crumbly, too soft, and it’s fairly lifeless by itself - it relies too much on the other burger ingredients to bring any flavour.
Most of the drinks on the menu are vegan and there are a good number of alcohol-free options.
Food was served very quickly and the bill came even quicker. It all felt a bit rushed. #Veganuary

Good burgers - Edit
Found this place completely by accident, it had a sandwich board outside that said it catered for vegans which caught my attention. The menu was big and it said that all burgers could be made vegan. My only problem, was that other than exchanging the animal patty's for plant based patty's, it didn't specify how they would change up some of the other components like bacon.

Everything on the menu can be made vegan which is great. The milkshakes were really tasty, I recommend trying them. The curly fries I had were great however the vegan burger patty isn’t my favourite.

Hit or miss - Edit
Can be very hot or miss depending on the chef. It’s the only place where I’ve had to return food that stale before. The staff are always lovely though and the chips are great. I would always recommend the vegan milkshakes.

Loved it! - Edit
I was amazed that all the burgers came in a vegan option purely because of the amount of different ones on the menu! I had a fajita burger and asked for the vegan option and it was absolutely delicious. The portions were huge and it just tasted phenomenal. It was also a reasonable price too, around £30 for two main meals and two drinks. The only downside was the wait. We went on a busy Friday night and it took just over and hour for our food to come to the table.. #Veganuary

Dry overly seasoned burgers - Edit
Gave it a chance because they said all burgers could be veganised but regretted it. Really thick, dry and overly seasoned bean type burgers (in the worst way you can imagine) trying to make up for the “meat” flavour.

Nothing unique - Edit
Tasty food and plenty of options, but nothing unique that makes me go back. If you are looking for a place where everyone can get a meat, vegan or vegetarian burger with chips, go for it. If you’re looking for real food then look for somewhere else. Great location in the centre of the lace market.

The worst restaurant experience I have ever had and the ONLY restaurant I have ever had to walk out of (after waiting hours for our order) - Edit
The worst restaurant experience I've ever had & the only restaurant I've ever had to walk out of due to the absolutely appalling customer service.
Read moreMe and my partner ordered our food after being advised it was busy with a 45minute wait on food orders. After ordering, we received our food 1.5hrs later, my gluten free order was the complete opposite of what I'd asked for - I got served a Sainsburys gluten free frozen tiny Ciabatta bun (4 for £2 at Sainsburys local just around the corner) with a beef burger instead of their usual good quality gluten free burger buns with the grilled chicken burger as promised on the menu. Communication was completely none existent, absolutely no communication between staff or management, customer service was INCREDIBLY poor. Really shocking as we have been before last year and had a good experience back then. After 2 hours of waiting for our food and being ignored by staff my partner went to enquire about our order and the kitchen had messed it up a 2nd time, telling us we would have to wait even longer than over 2 hours we had already sat waiting. By this point it was 10:15 & we were one of the last tables waiting in the restaurant.
I'll never ever set foot in Annie's again. Absolutley shocking service and the worst eating out experience I've ever had. Never experienced customer service so poor in my entire life. Zero stars.
Please go to Fat Hippo around the corner - amazing burgers and amazing customer service 👏

Chips were stone cold as were my friends sweet potato fries.

Nice Try, But Extremely Disappointing - Edit
At first we were excited that every item on the menu is available vegan which we really appreciated, however when the food arrived it was tough, bland, dry and extremely different to what was advertised on the menu.
Read moreI selected The Broadway which was meant to be a burger layered with an American sausage patty, whole chicken breast, grilled bacon, melted American style cheese, and dip.
What arrived was an extremely dry and crumbly bean burger with very little flavour, and two unidentifiable dry patties that were so tough, crunchy and flavourless they were actually too much effort to try and chew through. The cheese was completely unmelted and the bacon I'm sure was quorn which any vegan will tell you is the worst vegan bacon.
As the chips I had the seasoned curly fries (pretty sure these were just bog standard supermarket curly fries) topped with chilli. The chilli again was dry and bland, without a hint of flavour or spices, and it was topped with some lazily ripped up pieces of vegan cheese slice that again was completely unmelted.
As a side I ordered the beans with sausage which (while I can't find these online to check) was advertised as something along the lines of being sweet and smokey and cooked with molases which for over £3 you would expect to be pretty special considering its a small ramekin. What arrived was literally indistinguishable from just some hienz baked beans, straight out of the can and unchanged in any way other than having cut up sausage in it.
The strawberry milkshake was nice, but could achieve the same at home in 2 mins by mixing some swedish glacé icecream in with a Nesquick milkshake.
The only items I really enjoyed was the 4/5 small chunks of sausage in the beans and the vegan blue cheese dip.
In summary, the staff were lovely but Annie's Burger Shack vegan food is sadly an example of what non-vegans THINK all vegan food is like.
I very awkwardly asked for the beans to be knocked off the bill which is the first time I've ever complained about a meal, but frankly I wish I'd asked for more off as I was only able to eat about 1/3 off the burger, chilli and chips it was so dry and bland. Went home hungry.
Gave 2 stars because at least they are trying to offer a large selection of vegan options and the staff were very friendly and apologetic when I awkwardly complained.
Pros: Friendly helpful staff. , They are trying to cater for vegans., Reasonable prices if it were as advertised.
Cons: Food was awful, dry, bland., Left hungry., Gives vegan food a bad name.

Spoilt for choice! - Edit
Annie’s is amazing. It’s so nice to be treated like equals and have the whole menu to choose from. The new barriers in place around tables to keep customers safe from infection work well, and getting our temperatures tested on the way in to the building was an additional safety measure. The food is fantastic. I had the Boston Nibbler burger.
